It has been a long time since I last updated Jared's page. It is hard to believe that it will be 9 years since Jared was diagnosed with ATRT. He is doing well. I dont think about the cancer he had much anymore or all that he went through. The main focus now is his education. Jared is classified as Traumatic Brain Injury. He has a lot of difficulty with processing so we really need to be on top of school work and his learning. We did have him excluded from standarized testing so less stress on him and the teachers.
Now we have to deal with the NYC Middle school process. We really need to find the best place for him for next year. Matt and I need to look at the middle schools here in Staten Island and see what the classes look like and the services that are in the school.
For any Families that read this that are just finding out about Atypical Teratoid Rhaboid Tumors, I hope that reading about Jared gives you hope. Almost 9 years ago Matt and I felt so helpless but everytime we were able to find a child that was surviving this horrible cancer it gave us hope that Jared could also make it. Here we are 9 year later.
