Hi Angela,

Wow, only 4 weeks to go! I'm so blessed to read how well Matt is doing. His tech's seem to really like him and have some creative ways of connecting with him.

Jordan's sense of smell was so KEEN during radiation. He even said he could smell water! At first I thought he was crazy till the doctor verified it to me. I wish he would of mentioned it in the beginning. He could not eat in any cafeteria's or at the Ronald McDonald House, it made him sick.

Well, I'll pray this will be another great week, you'll be half way there soon!

Great update! Yes, I saw the movie too when we were in Memphis with Jordan. I cried and cried, and thought it was incredible. I too came out with such a renewed sense of "HOPE", and so grateful for the battle Jesus won for us! It spoke volumes to me in so many ways.

Glad things went well for Matt. I pray it gets better and better. Your trip sounds really exciting.

Oh my, I'm just SHOCKED! I haven't been checking my CB pages lately. We're dealing with so many issues since Katrina, and well, just been overwhelmed with so much.

I'm so very sorry to read Matt's cyst has grown! I will be praying really HARD about his MRI on Tuesday, my heart goes out to you, gosh, this is so DIFFICULT!!!

Please hold on to your HOPE Andrea and your faith. Here is a word from PS 31:24:

Andrea, I agree w/ Dr Carson. Don't do anything you do not feel is right. No matter what M.D says is the best treatment. If you dosomething that in your heart you do not feel is right you will always blame that for everything. At least I do. If Harlei would stub her toe I would blame it on whatever I didn't feel right about. I am so happy tonight, I really am. I do believe you made the right decision...and that God truly did lead you there.
I believe with all my heart that what is left of Matthew's tumor will shrivel up and die too...and you know I will be on my knees praying that it happens quickly so that Matthew may go on to lead a very long, full and happy life.

Reading your update and hearing how your faith has got you through all this made me think. With out God and our faith there, well….that is what we parents in a situation have to go on. Faith and Hope!

Keeping all of you, especially Matthew, in our prayers!! When Benjamin had his brain surgery he opposed everything the doctors, nurses, and we wanted him to do, too. We wondered if this was the "new" Benjamin, but the nurses told us that most of the kids react this way after surgery and that in three weeks it would be like a "switch" would click on and the "old" Benjamin would be right back. Sure enough, at exactly three weeks after surgery our same little guy popped right back to us. We hope that Matthew is feeling more like himself again very soon, and we'll be thinking of and praying for you all and watching for updates. Take care!

Thank you so much for the update Jack.
So many of the things you've been describing sound so familier, our son's stories are so similar in so many ways...especially the fiestiness..which works out very well in their advantage in that nothing, absolutley nothing will stand in their way, which makes recooperating a snap. :0)

We are really intersted in the radiation treatment as we were told the best thing to do was "wait and watch" again.
At first there was talk of chemo. and radiation or both but it was decided those options wouldn't do Kody any good.
And....Kody's tumor now, because of the craini. being so sucessful, lays entwined in his stem and since it is also an astrocytoma, it "fingers" out into the brain itself.

It is possible that the ramianing outside the stem portion will wither away after some time. Thank God, it did for us.
But as you said....it could grow back. :0(

We are so happy Matthew has got such and excellent surgeon and that you all have such great, loving family and friends around you.

Keep fighting Matthew!!!!

I am so happy for all of you, so thrilled beyond belief Dr. Carson sucked that "bad boy" right out. :0)
Jack, I really had to laugh at the way you described "sucked it out" because that's how it was described to us too. :0)

You all cannot imagine how happy I am that Matthew woke up so quickly...and as for being aggitated and impulsive, WOW..I do remember very well when Kody fianally did wake up he was exactly that way too. He never remembered any of it but yes....he caught me way off guard when he woke up, sat up and nearly flew off the side of the bed. Thankfully...I was fixing his blankets and was there to catch him.

I am so relieved for your family that this long day has come to an end. I can remember sitting in that same waiting room one year ago waiting for Dr. Weingart to call and tell us that Michael was doing okay. After about 4 hours I asked the receptionist and she said that he had already sent someone out to talk to us. Well they had talked to an older grandfatherly person who they thought was with us. In our entire experience at Hopkins which was very good, the worst part was the PICU. That one chair rule in their was tough. My son woke up very aggitated too and by the morning he was ready to go home.

I pray that the MRI will be a good sign for you and this journey can have some closure, but as parents we will always worry for the rest of our lives.

Andrea, I met you once at Logan school playground & told you some of the story of my mom. She was 61 & had an Glioblastoma grade 4. She had the surgery but it grew too fast. Good luck with your surgery and I will definitly keep Matthew in our prayers. I can remember sitting in that waiting room for 12 hours last June while my son underwent his surgery at Hopkins. It can be so stressful when everyone else is getting up to go to recovery and you are still sitting there. Hopkins is the best and your son is in great hands. My son's surgery was done by Dr. Weingart, and a year later no tumor at all. His was a Grade 2 Astrocytoma. And, the best thing for him is that his seizures have stopped.

Hey Guys....
Stopping by tonight to see how the appt. with Dr. Carson went. I know this is such a nerveracking, stressful time for you all and I am so happy that you can still update...you have no idea how much we worry! 0)

Andrea, I feel your pain about those veins...Kody used to have great veins, never a problem. Well, that was up until recently...they roll, they collapse, they explode. It takes forever to get blood. One of our local lab techs just recently told me that it's not necessarly Kody but instead it is scar tissue on all those veins from being poked over and over and over.

Please know that we may be miles apart but we are there with you in spirit and in prayer.
Matthew has a huge piece of our hearts and we know it'll be rough for a while but he will be fine....heck, this is Matthew we're talking about here!! :0)

If I can help in anyway you all know I will...please get ahold of me, even if it's just to talk things out. There is nothing in the world like a phone, a Hershey bar, a cup of coffee, a dozen cookies, a pint of ice cream, some cannoli's and a girlfriend, especially one who's been in your shoes not very long ago. :0)

We are in patient right now b/c a wound on her head from a neurosurgery frrom 2003 hasn't ever healed right and it came open again. AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!! What a wonderful thing for your friends to do, to arrange for a place that your entire family can stay. I know that for me, the most difficult thing about our visits to Memphis is being away from the rest of our family.

Matthew's surgery should go well. I pray that the anticipation that precedes his surgery will be better than before his first surgery, I know that for me I was so concerned about how Steven would tolerate the surgery and the uncertainty of not knowing what was growing in his head was the hardest part.

He recovered so quickly and with so few problems it was a blessing. I pray Matthew has a similar experience, you are at a good place with good surgeons and as we all know, we just have to have faith sometimes.

hello.......it is so nice to see that there is another who is fearful about tests.....i get anxious every time i go for one............i was dianosed with a pineal lesion germ cell in origin midline.......it grows millimeters a month i am currently being watched as it mildly indents on the third ventricle...it is benign they believe...i am 38

Your speech was simply wonderful. My wife faithfully buys the tickets on her shopping trips to Giant as this is very personal for us, too. Our daughter Paige was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January of this year. She's had 2 surgeries, a Hickman and radiation treatments. I'm also amazed by your Matthew's Miles fundraiser. My e-mail was sent back. Josslyn was diagnosed with a brainstem glioma. INOPERABLE. Dr. Patrick Kelly at NYU looked at mri's and said OPERABLE pilocytic astrocytoma. Her surgery was very non-invasive. They only shaved off her bangs at her hair line and the hole was less than the size of a dime. Dr. Kelly helped pioneer this surgery. It is a computer assisted surgery. They got all of her golf ball sized tumor. The surgery was 1-23-03. Hope any of this info. helps. Feel free to call anytime. Our prayers are with Matthew.

I read your journal about telling Matthew about surgery. I think you did the right thing and it may not seem like it now, but it will later. Keep talking and preparing him. My kids have been falling so much recently too and have lots of knee bruises to prove it!

Wow! Sounds like things have been interesting at your house lately. I just wanted you to know that I have been thinking about you guys and praying for Matthew and your family. Britt has an MRI scheduled for Feb. 15. I am always nervous about these scans even though she has been tumor free for almost 5 years.

Hi! The itchies doesn't sound like much fun. I hope you all feel better soon and the shingles don't visit also. My oldest got a light case of chicken pox even though he had been vaccinated. Sounds like an awesome exhibit! Wow!
Vic and I saw National Treasure too.
We liked it.
Vic and Dan are in NY for scans this week.
I will be glad when it is over.(I know you can relate!)
One good thing is that there is a frog exhibit at the Museum of Natural History there--so they are planning on taking that in. So they are managing to have some fun as well.
I just love the pictures of the kids in the photo section--Soooo precious!!!
I think Emma looks VERY much like her Momma!

Thanks for your words of encouragement in Haley's guestbook. We are being as optimistic as possible while we wait for Monday's appt. I'm glad that Matthew is doing well and that you are not faced with any impending decisions. I think what you wrote about doing surgery as a first option would also reflect how I feel. Thank you so much for all the emmotional support you have given to me as Kody went through his bad days recently. You have no idea how much it means to me to have someone who has actually "been there" to make sure I am aware and ready to accept what can or may happen and how long it will last...the card you sent to myself was absolutley the thing I needed to smile that particular day. :0)
Our boys are so much alike....it's unbelieveable! But..they are both "miracle children" and the two of thtem tougher then nails boys will continue to fight, stay strong and will always end up the winners.
Thank you again for your friendship...now that things are somewhat returning to normal {if there is such a thing!} I really think a cup of coffee and a phone call is in order!! :0)
