Kelly's Page

Kelly's Junior Prom
On June 6,2003, at the age of 14, Kelly was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). Kelly was transfered from Jersey Shore Medical Hospital to Robert Wood Johnson/Bristol Myers Squibb Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She was started on an experimental drug therapy called Gleevec that was the new wonder drug for pediatric leukemia patients. Its an oral chemotherapy that has very few side effects. Kelly began a 10 month schedule of going to the clinic each week for check ups. We were told that if we had to pick a cancer that cml was the best to have, since it was a slow moving cancer to show and slow to leave.

We were told Kelly's only cure would be a bone marrow transplant.
So Kelly's brother and sister were to be tested but they were not a close enough of match. The next step was to search the Bone Marrow Registry. Woooooooooooohooooooooooo we were told that there was 16 possible matches for her. On April 26, 2004 "The Birthday Girl" received the greatest news that they found the perfect bone marrow match and we would be heading to New York City to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital to start the process of being prepared for transplant.

We arrived for transplant on May 21,2004 to do 2 days of chemo therapy and 4 days of high dose radiation. On May 28, 2004, Kelly received her bone marrow

Please take a moment after viewing the site to drop Kelly a little note, she would love to know who is stopping by to check on her. Click on the Guestbook.Photobucket

Hey everyone!!!

It is almost that time of year, my favorite holiday. I just want to ask anyone to help out your local cancer hospital. You can do this by giving gifts to kids with cancer. Most parents do not have enough money to pay for their child’s treatment and get gifts for all of their kids, so please donate any money, gift cards, toys, stuffed animals, or even send cards to the kids at the hospital. I know that I always loved get cards when I was sick (I still do!!)

Getting back to me this is my favorite time of year, because I get to spend time with my mother’s side of the family. I love seeing everyone!!!
