I am so late coming by this year to wish you a Happy Countdown to Jesus birthday! Please know that you remain in my prayers always, even on the days when I don’t get to let you know. I read the updates often and pray daily for your needs. How I appreciate your tmaing the time to say hello, even with your bust life Kristin! OMG!!! LOVE the poem! You are so awesome! Hope all is o.k., now you are doing the "worries not posted" and making me worry about you!
The pageant stuff absolutely cracks me up! G and Drew couldn't be any more alike! Drew always tries "not to yawn"! AND this year....I forgot to say on Drew's site....Drew is in choir and they started the concert with the choir walking through the DARK auditorium with fake candles, the ones that you twist on. Anyway, who was leading the group....through the room....up the stairs and onto the stage and up the risers.....YES, MY BLIND CHILD!!!! I about had a heart attack! I pretty much forgot about the singing, was so glad he didn't lay himself out flat!

I thought it was just me in a funk. Glad I have company... sure wish I could eat a cookie :(

Your kids are in my thoughts and prayers, I get so sad with all this. I need some good news just a little good news. My David failed his hearing test 3 times, I freaked, I had him MRI scanned, and they didn't see anything, then they asked if I wanted to put him through the one with more radiation to test him.. Gee no I don't but what do I do?? He had a hole in his ear drum so there trying to fix it. He just had surgery to put gel gunk over the hole and we will see if that works if not they will re-build the ear drum. I keep asking if there is any tumors and they look at me like I've grown a 2nd head, still some Dr's don't know about NF. GRRRR

Just checking on you! Yes, I vote that you update more! I know we have facebook and I love it, I just love your words on here too! I wish things could be easier for G, it's just not fair. There should be a rule that 'if you get brain tumors, the rest of you life is breeze!' It's not fair that it makes life harder after it's already made life scary! I hope they have a great time at the fashion show, you have to put pictures up of them in their styling outfits!
And homework.....ugh times a million! It just drives me crazy. The last thing I want to do when we all get home is homework! Really ruins a perfectly good evening!

Globization and an interconnected world!!! Now that would make me sleepless - lol - great stuff - makes me feel so old and having been out of education circles for over 5 years now - my kids are getting old too - its amazing what they learn in school - having completed my trip around Australia I relearnt a lot of the history that I found so boring back at school - very interesting while living it - go Genna and Rosie - can't wait for the photos of the parade - well done Andrew - yes it has happened so the logistics will work out - gone are the running the kids around days so it seems easy from here - ha ha

OK- First things first- STABLE, even relatively, is GOOD, no, GREAT !!!
Now,- I Hate that there was even the teensiest bit of a discrepancy, but so it goes- We have the same thing here-
Eyeballs, As you always say, make everybody Crazy- but better is Good !!!
As to the needing friends with brain tumors- you guys really really need to come to Camp Sunshine as soon as you can fit it in !!! Any old brain Tumor week will do - Because there you will find Genna friends with brain tumors who stay connected all year long by long distance mechanisms, and making insane excuses to go visit each other, etc. !!!
I totally agree that our kids need a peer support group, and I am currently trying to figure that one out-
they need to know other kids just like them, the same way we need to know other parents just like us !!!

So I read your update in the morning before I left for Spokane and it got me crying so I couldn't post.......I just so 'get it'. I am beyond thankful every single day that we found all of you. Drew enjoys Genna's friendship just as much as she does. There are so many reasons that their friendship is so special. They met because of NF, but they are friends because they like each other and they have so much in common.
We are going to get together one of these days......after reading this I was thinking on the way to Spokane. We need to start a family camp for NF. There are cancer camps for families, but I have never heard of an NF family camp. We can find a central place.....in the woods.....by a lake......we can do it. We NEED to do it!

Thank you for posting twice! I have so needed your words! The ones today had me crying! My mind is so all over the place right now. We so need a cure. A cure for it all.... I wish we could be there with you, I am so proud of all of you. The running, t-shirts, cookies.....someday I will get there. Right now, I just live through your moments.
And our 'parent brains', it's just a defense that we don't freak out every minute of the day....and the fact that we have our kids that we have to be somewhat composed around at least part of the time.

Thanks for coming to Mark's Halloween party. This was totally his idea and as I watched Eric and him carving pumpkins with you, I actually wondered who the kids really are. I guess that it sometimes takes boys a long time to grow up.

Thank you so much for posting this week! I needed it! I read it days ago, but haven't had a chance to post. I have been stalking you on here (of course) and was about to leave a message saying "hey K, I need some of your wonderful wisdom!" And here it was....an update! I just love reading your words and really think you need to update more often!
Anyway, I'm thinking of you all every day! It sounds like things have been as crazy for you as for us! We need to get these MRIs over with before I go mad! 2 in one month on the anniv. of Drew's chemo start is going to push me over the edge! And so many kids having a hard time right now!

That's another reason why G and Rosie are going to have perfect MRIs......they are our hope, our light, our proof that it's all going to be o.k.! (the other reason being that "I said so!")

Anyway, rambling in my craziness today! Just thinking about you!

My dear friend- I sit here with tears in my eyes reading this post- It is true- They are kids, not saints- But I can see how they were angels before they were angels- the pictures of Devon as she lay dying proved this- She was always an angel, just walked this earth for a short while- Horrible, tragic, awful that she should leave us so early- But mostly for us, as she is Fine now, just fine- Not fine are her dear parents, who will never be the same without her-

I just love the new hair.....I love that her face pops up when I go to her site. It makes me smile! :0)

And 5 years of yikes....I read this yesterday and I didn't even have words, I don't know that I do today either. I remember when we started all of this with Drew. We were trying to decide chemo or no chemo. That seemed huge. Then I thought, we'll do chemo and it will work and we will be done. I was so sad that it was going to consume our life for over a year.....but it would save his vision....but what would it do to him?......Now we are almost ready to start our fifth year of the yuck and I realize that it will never truly be over. That we will never ever be the same. But I have met so many wonderful people. But my boy is with us and he can see. I have done things I never thought I could do. I have become a far more compassionate person.

It's just hard and I know now we can't ever go back to the life we had. I think that is the worst of it. We know so much, too much. It's sort of like when you realize there isn't a Santa or an Easter bunny. I don't want to grow up, I don't want those things taken away. I want our kids to just have their childhood without all the chemo and tumors and hospitals and doctors.

O.k., so I'm just rambling, but I so understand. And it's important that you tell people what it's like 5 years after huge yikes and after treatment. So many people think, you are through with treatment and it's over......so not the case. Especially for our kids with brain tumors and NF1. It's never over.
Anyway, I hope you all get off to a good start at school! Maybe some "busy" will be good! Like you aren't busy already!

I love Miss G's new haircut. So stylish and we have to pay for those curls! I read your last journal entry and felt like I was right beside you. Remember Carly was dx Feb 2004. I, too feel like my heart is 400 years old. Even with really great days or wonderful times it is always there lurking in the background. You are so right, we are some of the lucky ones, but life will never be the same for any of us. Carr's friends have all left in the past few weeks for college. Life moving forward and she still feels in limbo. Not quite sure where or what she should be doing and honestly at times, not really caring. Stupid, stinking, hateful brain tumors. People still don't really get is unless they have walked it.
O.k., have you started school yet? We have a new addition to the family. A beautiful register Boxer puppy named Riley (yes, after Riley Children's Hospital). He is still a bit of a terror chewing on anything including fingers, toes, and ankles:)

Headstone? Really? You always make me laugh when I need it. :0) I am so tired and up and can't sleep so hopefully this will even make sense! Rosie and Joey are so much alike! And Joey did good at night. I think they are just so worn out they don't have a choice! :0) And even though he got a little homesick (also doesn't help to be tired) he is ready to go back next year. He had lots of good memories. Was telling me today how he borrowed a tie for the dance from one of the older boys.....only my kid, he cracks me up! He LOVES wearing a tie! I love listening to them talk on the phone.......

I loved Phantom Tollbooth myself but I can totally understand not getting it, James didn't care for it much and he loved fantasy in general. I am impressed with a summer reading list, we never had such a thing. James liked CS Lewis, also Edward Eager, the Spiderwick chronicles, the Charlie Bone series, Harry Potter, some of Diana Wynne Jones and Joan Aiken, and Margaret Mahy. He totally loved 'The thirteen Clocks' by James Thurber, which is fantasy and very short, it seems to me very James-like somehow. The sad thing to remember is that most of those I read to him, he could read well but after about a page his eyes got tired, the optician said they weren't working together well. It was something we were working on after his first treatment but it all stopped when he relapsed, he read well enough for school work but for relaxation preferred tapes or being read to. Sorry, waffling, lots of love - and if you saw Anna's bedroom you'd think nothing of Andrew's, I'm sure.

Just saying hi and hoping you survive with kids at camp! It sounds like such a great idea, it's just never been that quiet at my house for that long......since like 1998! And the books, I can totally relate to G's non-love of fantasy.....Drew doesn't like fantasy either and I have to say it has never been my favorite genre either. Could she watch the movie after one of the books, just to help solidify it in her mind. (I don't know what they have to do when they read it.)
And 5 years......I can't believe it, we are getting to the point of "our kids have lived with the affects of NF for half of their lives" Ugh!
Drew and Genna are going to do great things and show the world what it means to be a survivor. And Rosie and Joey are going to dance and sing and be stable forever!

Yes, (I know shocker) I am rambling....thinking about you always. I hope you survive your week without getting lost in Andrew's room. I sort of went on strike when the boys were gone...."I refuse to clean all week!" So, I am doing it this week. :0)

YEY for earrings!! After my fundraiser I treated myself to more( like I needed them ) earrings. I now have 9 earrings! I know to some that's a lot but I like them. I hope I don't give your girls ideas... hehehe!

G and I went on a mini vacation and she did awesome. I plan on this huge 15th birthday surprise for her in Nov. I can't believe I have a 15 year old or that I've been doing this NF train trip that long! I will do ANYTHING to find a cure. We ( Sonya ) are going to do the posing for a cure again. I just plan on begging ahem asking for stuff earlier!

I can't believe it has been this long since I have signed your guestbook!! Must be because we talk on Facebook...

K - I know the feelings you have, and you know that, too! You have read my ranting, raving ventings on Facebook, the only place sometimes I think I can really let it out. BT's suck... Levi was a monkey too. He was standing up in his crib at six months old eating his wallpaper :-) Walked at nine months. When he was two, he took a five bag of flour out of the cupboard when I was taking a nap and threw handfuls ALL over the living room and kitchen - I said "Levi!! What on EARTH possessed you to do this!!!" and he looked up at me with big sweet green eyes and said "Wook, Mama! It 'nowed!" LOL One of my all time favorite memories... I think that same spirit gets them through the hard times, too.

Genna - I am so super, super proud of you for throwing away the margarine, sweetie! That took ALOT of willpower. I don't know many adults that could the same thing with a pizza or a cake or a bag of chips - YOU ROCK!!

It's not raining - yippee!! Hope you have a wonderful time at the lake. I will be working, working, working (blah).

Neuropsych testing is SOOOOO expensive, praying your insurance company is good and picks up a big old whopping majority of it!

Thanks for all of your encouragment and for caring, it means a LOT. I am already doing the daily (hourly) prayers to God for good scans and for peace for YOU as the day approaches. I hope ya'll will have tons of fun on your vacation and be able to put medical things on the back burner while you are gone!

I had to smile at the thought of Genna and her friend...I have a couple of mine with the same "friend" issue...I always think David and Genna would be fast friends and Lisa would be all over Rosie!

K- I love you guys so much but... hand over the sneakers!! One full week of rain is so not cool. Makes my joints hurts. But every time it rains now, I say " K got out her sneakers!"

I have been brain storming about the food thing. I've looked things up on the internet and read Dr's manuals. I even asked my home Dr. Could it be that the snotty brain tumors are making her brain send out that "I am hungry". This is something my Dr said could happen depending on her tumor location. Just doing some side research. I know G don't intend to eat she just can't help it. I just wish my G would eat. I love the shout out for my small benefit. I can't run, knee's won't let me... so dying my hair and shaving my head is something I can do. How many times have OUR kids lost there hair and we felt there pain but couldn't do anything, well I am, I will do this for all those kids.
I got the dell waiting for you, I swear it looks brand new. My mom in law never used it for anything. I'll get it down to you. I got a few people I want to say hi and hang out with for a bit. I recommend the Wii fit. It's fun, my kids love it. Amazon is a wonderful place to get it for less then $100.

My Sweet lovable Cam Fam!!!

We are well, Mighty Mom took a few blows but I'm getting my footing back and swinging! I really am so short it's funny to watch me at times. I got the Dell in my fund raising room and if you can't make it up for the fund raiser, I will take a couple days and come to NJ.. Worry not Susan, My kids ( mostly D ) got me a Garmin GPS so I stop getting lost. He missed half a soccer game do to my not knowing how to get there from here. So worry not, I have a GPS that yells turn left NOW!!

Let me know when all the big days are, John running mega man 2009, Dave running that 13 miles ( I may come down for this one). I have a card and know how to use it!

Hey Cams!
I am so glad you got a job, it will be perfect for you! Even though it gets crazy, school is really my time away from the BT world. It sounds weird, but most of the time I am too crazy busy to think too much. It will be good for you. Think of it as "mom time" in a weird way....since you will still be with kids! And it won't jinx the scan, because you are way over that.....she will not have another bad scan ever! Because I said so!

G yawning at the concert so cracks me up.....it is a conversation we have at every performance Drew has. 'Try not to yawn' Another thing they have in common, but I so don't get it! :0)

I'm glad you are getting good busy, with just a little "ahhhhh" every once in a while. Joey's eyes were good on Tuesday, he was trying to open his eyes wide and kept opening his mouth instead and gave a high reading on the pressure test.....at which point I almost had a heart attack, but they re-tested with a different machine and all was good. So our J and R are just going to stay good.....they HAVE to! And G and D are going to continue to have good scans and stable vision AND we are going to meet some day!

We really need to live closer.....we could walk at night when the kids go to bed and vent.....we would be fast walking because it would go with our talking! I don't know if you'd get me to run....then I couldn't talk! :0)

Dear Kristin,

I always knew that the pink cowboy hat would find its permanent home in your home. Kris is not exactly the sequined kind of guy, but he wanted to do anything to cheer Sandra up.
Congratulations on your new teaching job! That will certainly be a rocking class, punctuated by your humor and zeal. I'm sure your girls will be happy to see you in their school on a regular basis, and your work will keep you from doing continual rock excavation in your yard. Hopefully, it won't interfere with your baking marathons!

I hope that you and your family get to relax this summer. Even when you think you can't stand another day of blaring t.v. watching and boring, whiny sounds, remember to just let things go for a bit, enjoy the uninhibited laziness, have a pyjama day with no structure whatsoever, indulge a bit and escape the adolescent questionable issues by gorging on a really good book. (I just read Ruth Reichl's Tender at the Bone -- you would really enjoy it).

Anyway, have fun with the kids, and remember, "Summertime, and the livin' is easy..."

At least you aren't wearing a white tee shirt in the rain:>) Last September at CHOP's onco walk/run/fundraiser it rained most of the time and the tees of course were white. Not pretty. I heard a boy about 9 tell his parents it looked like a wet tee shirt contest. Thank the Good Lord He impressed on my mind to wear the white tee over another tee. I know at Reach the Day they will be white tees, I guess until we are all caught in a downpour and even the leaders are out there looking like a bar competition it will be. Genna and family hope that you have many many smiles this summer. Lots of sun, splashing and ice cream cones. No detours, road blocks or speed bumps.

Can I just say ditto?! I am trying not to overplan the summer and just be....but it is taking over already. And too much of it is medical....and I'm wanting to do school stuff so the boys are ahead of the game next year. I feel like this year just flew by us.... Going to the lake will be a great way to kick off the summer! We don't go until mid-July!
Anyway, I must sleep because tomorrow is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!! If G is having a bad day, just have her call us! Drew loves to talk to her and Joey (of course) loves talking to Rosie.

I'm so glad you "sound" better......so glad you got some good news! It gives me so much hope, G is always my hope. When we are going and going with chemo I think about G, I tell the doctors about G, she is my light that gives me hope. We are doing the "big test" this summer so hopefully we'll get some good results too! We don't have anything to compare (it's his first), but still.
And Kristin, as always you are my inspiration, you are so good.....someday I will be doing more to raise awareness, raise big bucks for NF......someday we are going trek across the country to see you! (Look out!!) Right now I'm trying to keep my head above water!

I will so keep your G in my prayers, all of you are already in my heart. It must be the month for it! My G is a tad weepy! Today I bought her 2 pair of sparkly shoes and sparkly things for her hair. I bought a hair thing for myself and then laughed when I got home.. All I could think is why did I buy this when in a few months I may be bald? My friends are very determined I become bald! As I was talking to my one friend today ( her company gave me a $20 gas card! )any way we where talking about the fundraiser and me shaving my head, the guy behind me goes why would you do something so dumb. At which point we both turned and gave him dagger looks, she showed him G's poster that was hanging up and said that's why she would do it. What will you do? He said he would see us at the fundraiser! I keep getting rejections, I expect them but now I am just putting them in a pile and I plan on selling them, There mine to do as I want with and REALLY, these huge companies can't part with a dollar?
I really hope G feels better, if I can do anything let me know. Maybe a craft kit would brighten her day? Let me know!

Fill me in on the teacher stuff when I see you. Sounds great for next year and the IEP and the trying to understand her needs, etc. Social stuff is HARD all around. I see it with kids in my class. I think (from what I've seen) it tends to even out in the end, whether that end is high school, college, or somewhere else down the line, but it does even out. I am so glad that G uses the " but Gabbie's mom said I can". I love it! I am amazed that the girls opted for the eye drops. G just had her eye's checked and there was no way at all that was going to happen!! Her vision uncorrected is 20/200! I was like crap that is a huge change! But new purple frames are on the way! Your post was beautiful and really hit home for me. So many times when I see Cole in a group of kids...church program, birthday parties, etc....I have the same thoughts you spoke about. You're so right--we have to treasure those small moments. Even thought what we go through is not anything I'd wish on anyone, I'm glad to have the outlook now to appreciate those small moments for what they really are.

It has been quite awhile since I've checked in. Life is so crazy and time gets away...Both Elise and Carly were dancers and I so know about all those costume alterations. Hair I can do pretty well, if you lived closer I would do Miss G's and little Rosie's hair. Moms used to bring their daughters over to our house for hair and make-up time before recitals. Those were the days!
Carr is having some real issues with graduation just a few weeks away for all her classmates and her not being able to graduate this year. She knows in her head that she has worked hard to be where she is now, but in her heart a very huge hole as her friends talk about their graduation party, college, etc. Her mom has a pretty big hole in her heart, too for a daughter that overnight a little over five years ago life changed with the words brain tumor. On a more postive note she is going to her first prom this Saturday! I wanted to get her a new gown, but she is fine wearing the gown she wore in Elise's wedding this summer and that is o.k. She would be beautiful in anything. She is going with a friend that asked her and they are going with a group of friends out to eat first and then on to dance the night away. They all understand that she may not be the party animal and they will all watch out for her. I hope you have a wonderful weekend watching your own belles of the ball dance away.

So glad you clarified that you would be wearing clothes to the dress rehearsal - I was thinking the pin was going to hurt!
So much going on in the Camiolo house! I have Joe convinced that we need to visit New York - he's been looking stuff up - so don't be surprised if I tell you we're dropping in for a visit (sometime!) one of these days!
Looking forward to seeing the dance photos - we had ours done Monday - Ryan is in HipHop with 2 of his buddies! Unfortunately, I have to miss the recital on Sunday but have seen them perform in 2 competitions.....very cute! Glad Dave had a nice 40th! Tell him not to be so chicken when it comes to Sushi! You and I will go for a sushi feast when I do get there!

Anyway, glad to hear you guys had an uneventful Easter & hope G enjoyed her Phsyc evaluation last week. Devon loved hers last year. She thought it was some type of a mind game. Anyway, thank you for the www.wallofcourage.com link. I did not know that May is BT awareness month. Loved the site and I am trying to touch base with those guys. Coincidentally we are planning a fundraiser at Sabrica's Cafe'(s) in Philadelphia for the weekend of May 30th/31st where a pancake dish will be made/named in Devon's honor all weekend and proceeds will go to the PLGA. She has Reeses pancakes in mind????. We could sell some of the gray "find a cure" ribbon's there. Wish you guys could make it... but we certainly understand if you can't.

Miss running into you guys at our favorite (not!) meeting spot. We are in for the MRI on May 6th ugh! and filled out Devon's application for the RMcD camp. Hope the girls get in this year!

I hope that you had a beautiful Easter. Thanks for standing by my side again on Holy Thursday. We who are tall have to stick together, after all. Thanks also for the humor -- I find it hard not to go into that pre-teen addictive kind of giggling when I hear you mutter a joke behind your music.
And yes, enjoy each and every day and play as much as possible. When people told Sandra and me to live one day at a time, her comment was "what does that mean - NO ONE can live two days at a time."
Well, have to go and clean out the rooms that have become storage facilities here. Danielle, who has raised $1,900 for the Jersey Relay, will be sleeping over on Friday, together with the rest of the women's team, SANDY'S SPIRIT. Mark's team, called SANDY'S TEAM will also be joining them. I really don't know how we will be able to get all of them to the shore by 7 a.m., but we'll just have to do it. Wish us luck and I hope that we'll bump into Dave and Andrew there. Good luck to them in their race!

It's soggy in PA too! Fits my mood great!! That little voice is whispering in my ear! I hate that voice. I really thought Dave would be the first in line to color my hair some sort of odd color! I did after all TRY to get him too! I am really willing to do just about anything for money so we can find a cure.
K- I too was that person who would squeeze dimes until well they um well lets just leave it at I squeezed them hard. I am much easier with kids, if the kids want it..somehow they get it, don't matter if it's my kid or some other kid. I did a real big change when I blew that appendix and realized " Life is short". We will get through this little storm too!

You tell G and R that I will be honored to give them there first donation for reading. I was thinking $1 a book or $25 dollars for each of them. Which ever is more. I will do anything to make kids love to read, I endorse reading as much as NF! No back talk K, My mind is made up! I need to know who to write the checks out too!

I've been checking in, somehow finding it difficut to write - I liked your 'guess the musical' - James and the other children used to sit round the table having tea and paying 'guess that quote' - they'd do ridiculous lines from films and plays, James was very good at it. You and James would get on well, he'd love the songs you said. I'm glad the tricycle is going well - I just cleared out our playroom - the ceiling fell down so I had to - and James's tricycle needs repair, the wheels hardly turn, I must take it to the bike shop, I still don't want to lose it but maybe it's time to see if someone else would like it.

We have free Catholic schools too, I think the church and the government both contribute to the costs.

LOL with K- I am neurotic all the time!! So I am grateful when my friends join me!! I got a purple and blue hippo in the mail yesterday ( from build a bear!! ) and had to hide it from my G...eek!! She loves purple and the hippo would of never made it to the benefit if I showed her! I had a hard time letting go of her.. She is that cute! I am starting to feel better about people showing up. Gabbie just walks up to people and tells them there coming and to make a basket ( this is kind of embarrassing but hey that a girl ). So uh K... what did you do with those lollipops and M & M's??!!?? I am glad you found the box and the ducks made it! I am also so glad I was able to put some smiles on everyone's face. It would be awesome if you could come down, but it is a very long drive ( 3+ hours). But it would be awesome to finally get together. I do totally understand if you can't come.
Like I said I keep having the awful dream where nobody shows and I am stuck with 400 chicken dinners!! Gabbie is so excited by all this but I just know that she will crash and won't be able to make the whole thing. NF sucks!! I wish I could stomp on all tumors.

Oh and SHHH we can't let it get out I have a soft side!! Did the princess bears with the girls names come? I knew the ducks would be a huge hit! I got my kids some too!

The Coffeehouse was wonderful! We had a great time. It was so good to see you again. I have to tell you that I wasn't in the room for one minute and I had Genna hugging the stuffing's out of me!! I think I sampled every single cookie there was. They were all delicious, but I will tell you those lemon bars are INCREDIBLE!!

The evening was flawless from my end...the entertainment heartwarming and so funny at times. I am thrilled with my painting of "Lake George", your favorite place to get away from it all. I love the hand knitted hat that Marta made and I won. Didn't know what I would do with it, but Marta wanted me to keep it. She told me to save it for my first girl grandchild (YIKES). It truly is a treasure.

Thank you to your wonderful Aunt Donna for approaching me and speaking to me about my Timmy. It was so good to know that Timmy, and our family have touched her life.

Congratulations Kristin...another Coffeehouse well done and lots of money raised for CTF. Along with you, it is my hope that some day soon no child, or parent will have to hear you have NF or a brain tumor.

The Coffee House was phenomenal!! You must all be so tired, but probably shaking from an overload of caffeine, chocolate and sugar. I shamelessly filled 5 cups with mouth watering cookies on the way out, saying that I will be saving them for Mark, but who was I kidding? Kristin, seriously, when you get your head back together again, you should compile a cookbook with your favorite recipes.

Thank you for keeping Sandra in your hearts and minds. I will always be grateful to her for bringing me to you, your families and your friends. We will keep plugging away for you, because, remember, Sandra always wanted to have a "Kids Help Kids with NF" club and I feel the obligation to honor that request as best as I can.

So, I know that you must be reeling and probably don't ever want to look at another recipe for cookies, but WE are looking forward to next year's extravaganza. Meanwhile, still floating on the butter and sugar that has been recently consumed, I have to remember that we have some pesky little relays and marathons to contend with and we have to start training ASAP. So, it is indeed time to crawl under that bed, find those dusty sneakers and hit the streets. Thanks for reinforcing the precious memories.

I have the same pampered chef thing!! I so wish I could be there for coffee-fest but I must keep G away from germs and sick people. The new med has a lot of nope can't do that! She can't take tylenol for a headache as it reacts with the Gleevec. Tomorrow we go for labs and a new script for the medicine. I updated my G's site and it just went away and I was to upset to re-type everything. My fingers and every other joint in my body hurts. ( I can no longer take my medicine for it.) But I wanted to let you know I am thinking of you all!

KRISTIN...that I could 'bop' over and give you a non-invasive(?) hug....heck, I'd squeeze the stuff out of you...You make a difference...We NF Moms, though mighty, are sometimes not able to be mighty-in-battle at the moment. Dear Kristin and the rest of the gang,

Thank you for your beautiful card and your warm, honest post on Sandra's site. I can't believe that we started this keychain mess -- some of my friends have 10 keychains and not enough keys to put on them, but isn't it incredible that these are the "chains" we have, linking us through a disease that first of all, defies an immediate correct pronunciation or spelling? "Neuro--what?"

Kristin, you have become the most vibrant "neuro-spokesperson" in all of N.J. Your sometimes comic portrayal of this devastating disease has given it a human texture that is not found in that first green book that I purchased many years ago. You have put the human print on it's stamp, and for this, many, many people are grateful.

I wish sometimes that you and your family didn't know of our fate with NF, but then, you wouldn't have known Sandra, and that, in itself would have probably been a negative thing. She was truly so inspirational and we all need that when things are not quite going as they should be.

I have been working on getting auction items for the Coffee House and have been rather successful. Local businesses, in spite of the economic problems, can't say "no" to a person who won't take "no" for an answer. Today will be a good day to go out and "visit" them, after all, what am I afraid of?

I hope you have a good weekend, tackling your knots and beads, while your famous cookies are rising in the oven. Seriously, in spite of Mark's recent venture into extreme marathon dining (oops, that sounded like a marathon of eating, but it actually is intensive dieting in which blood sugar levels are coordinated with exercise), I will definitely be bringing a doggie bag so that I can indulge in late night treats while I'm figuring out a knitting pattern.

It has been awhile since I got to check in and as always you are sooo busy! I understand the anniversary thingy, you hate that you even have an anniversary, but to celebrate three years means three years of having Miss G here with us. Sometimes people will say to me that our life is so different than before and how do I handle it all? I just look them straight in the eye and tell them that Carly is still with us and we will take her anyway we can have her. We are just a new "normal". Speaking of chocolate Carly and I were in CVS the day after Valentine's Day with all the candy reduced 50%! Not good when we were both hungry. We even hit the Easter candy! Chocolate covered M & Ms, malted milk eggs, Reese cup hearts,...you get the idea! Please give Miss Genna a huge hug and Rosie, too.

Thank you for the beautiful slide show. I was so touched to see my Warrior's photo there. It still seems like yesterday that I pushed her wheelchair around the track at the high school during the CTF fundraiser. My brave girl -- working all night, making key chains so that other children might have a better chance.

Ok, I know I signed last night, but now I am in a quieter enviroment (ie - Ethan isn't playing the drums on Rock Band at top volume and Levi and Kayleigh aren't fistfighting over the next game they play!).

I know the person who gave the "weight" talk probably meant well, but you know what the road to you know where is paved with - good intentions! It didn't help that all week, Oprah has had obese teenagers on her show! Levi also takes everything to heart and whatever authority says, goes. I think it is part of everything they have been through - their lives depend on listening to doctors/authority figures. Now my other three - not so much!

The most important thing for our kids - and ALL of us - is to concentrate on being healthy. That is the goal in our house right now. Wayne and I are working on it for ourselves, but when I took Levi and Kayleigh to their annual checkup - their list of favorite foods was downright embarrasing! Their food groups are - chicken nuggets, pizza, waffles and ice cream! Tell Genna I am super, super proud of her for maintaining her weight! We are having a contest at work and maintaining your weight gets you in the pot for the big prizes, same as those who LOSE weight!! So Genna, you could win big prizes if you worked with me :-).

Sorry about the typo on the report card... And Kayleigh is a Wall of Sound, too. One time she talked for an entire two hour trip to the lake - nonstop - and she was only 3 at the time! Good news about the grades!

Kayleigh is in the same class as Levi was last year, so Flat Kayleigh will be making the rounds this time. She hasn't decided where she wants to go.... Flat Levi sits on Levi's bookcase, tell Rosie he is still tired from all that dancing in church :-).

OK - now I am a rambling Wall of Sound.... Kayleigh gets it honestly LOL.

First, I have to say a huge thank you to Rosie for Joey's book! He LOVED it! He was saving it for his actual birthday, he looked at it, but wouldn't read it.....he gave in tonight, he couldn't wait anymore! :0) He loved it! I think Miss Rosie is going to be a writer like Mommy! :0)
I am so sorry about the whole weight discussion......the more my children are in school, the more I wonder where these people (some teachers) came from. It makes me sad....since I am a teacher, it is why teachers are given a bad name sometimes. I can't imagine talking to any 5th graders....(when all that wonderful puberty stuff is happening) about WEIGHT! Like they aren't a mess with hormones already! Goodness!
And I hear you on the MRI report.....she's not having symptoms.....it's going to be o.k. Two kids going through treatment.....just not humanly possible....so we aren't going there....AT ALL! O.k.?!
I am hoping to get you pictures for Coffeehouse, I'm just a little slow! If not, you can use any you have!

Hurray for stable! The whole community here at St. Joe's is praying for you. What a crazy couple days, but just think, you only have the horrible after (even though it's good) only once. Two at the same time is double scary, but I think at two different times wouldn't be any better.

Oh, K - hoping and praying tomorrow is a good day for you. We scan shortly. We should have been December, but there was an oops at the clinic and no one ordered it. I was hoping it was just pushed back to January (away from Christmas), but when I called a couple of weeks ago, they said they'd get it ASAP. I wonder how quickly that will be...

Along with Josh's scan will be audiogram, EKG and LARGE amounts of labs - without the aid of a central line. Ugh.

Hi!
I hope you get this at some point before scan......we love you all and we know it is going to be o.k. Twinness.......I eat peanuts on scan days, I figure it's protein and not sugar.....I almost always chase the peanuts with sugar after, but anyway. The weird part is that peanuts are not something I normally eat a whole lot, but scan day almost always.
Anyway, we are thinking about you. And you are going to be unbelievably tired, but you are going to be smiling when it's all finished because it's going to be all good. From blood draws, to hearing tests, to sleepy girls with wonderful brains......all good.

I'm so sorry. I hate when those dates hit me.....and for us too there are too many dates, or things that happen.......we did this and then got this news.....it's just all too much. I know you will make it through, even though it doesn't seem like it right now AND both girls are going to be all good. I need to get Joey scanned again, but I just can't right now.....that sounds terrible, but I know things are up there and there aren't any symptoms I just keep telling myself that it is not possible for a family to have to have two kids go through treatment. It just can't happen. Right?!

Sorry, not being at all helpful. We are way too alike in this department.....two kids with stuff I mean. I am just going to keep pictures in my mind of our sweet kids getting married and you and I drinking something with an umbrella. I know! We will take a honeymoon after they get married and celebrate the fact that we survived all this! :0)
I know it's going to be all good for you on Wednesday, because it has to be. I think the Avastin may be working for Drew. I know it's early, but his eyes/face seem better even after one dose. We'll see how things go. We are all going to be o.k.......because I said so!

A HOTEL????!!!! YES I AM SCREAMING! HOW CAN YOU THINK OF A HOTEL OR EVEN THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE WHEN THE SHEEHAN'S ARE 15 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE HOSPITAL? Oh and Go American Idol! The girls loved the visually impaired guy at the end I hear. I was out of town so they told me all about the girl in the bikini and the oil rig guy and this blind young man who finished college at 14? WoW, it's going to be a great season. Can't wait!

I was putting the Christmas cards away, hanging some up in Sandra's room, covering the wall space with the continual love that is now in fact generated by her absence, when I actually read some of the more precious messages. I was bemused by your children's lists of gifts that they are thankful for. Rosie lists "food and fish" before parents and family, Genna lists "good doctors" on the top, before all of your fun activities and Andrew is totally into sports and family fun. Makes you really think, doesn't it, about the impact of nf on a child.

Another twin thing......I was NEVER going to let my kids own or even play video games. The year Drew started chemo that was out the window......he tells everyone too. "My mom said I couldn't have video games and then I started chemo and I got 2 for Christmas." Lovely. He got a handheld for the car and one for home too! I do like the Wii much better though. They are at least moving while they are playing and Drew can play the sports and feel successful. He was telling Dr. G, on one of our visits, about how he was really good at tennis.....Dr. G was surprised with his vision. I said, "you do know it's a video game he's talking about, right?" He laughed.:0)

I hope your feelings for 2009 are wrong..but I so understand, and how complaining about a head ache can be SO much more then just a head ache...
We too love the Wii...look into Wii fit--great way to get up and moving...our kids love it..
I do believe our MRIs are close together again...Ours if Feb 5...1 year after the last brain surgery..and Allie's birthday again...

Kristen, I've been feeling blue too, not sure why. I think this journey, no matter where you are at in it, is just tiring. I'm tired of watching Sam not get any better, tired of people telling us there's nothing they can do. Tired of watching her life pass her by. I know I'll feel better but today, not so much. Hi, I have been given your web address from a very good friend of ours, Diane in Aus. Our eldest daughter Eleanor has been battling an Astrocytoma grade 3 for nearly 7 years now. She has undergone various courses of chemo, major surgery twice and 6wks of radiotherapy. Thankfully she has had clear scans since 2005 but she has been left with several problems due to all the treatment which include, major loss of sight in both eyes, hearing loss, puberty starting at the age of 6, she is growth hormone deficient and has behavioural problems.
I'm sorry to hear how your family has also had to go through the cancer battle and would love to keep in touch. We set up a web site for Eleanor back in 2002 as we have family all over the world and it was an easier way of keeping in contact. Please feel free to have a look.

1. I love the Christmas photo...just love it!

2. You're preaching to the choir about the Wii. I was trying to hold off on the video game thing too but so far (we got Wii in May), it hasn't been a regret. Watching Carly bowl is so worth it! She beats us all.

3. I think Christmas 2008 will officially go on the books as a puke-fest. I know so many who had some kind of bug or something...yuck!
