Glad to hear things are still going well. Love reading the updates and how all those moms are going to any length for their children. I would consider joining you but Jayce has banned me from shaving my head as he has very loudly reminded me that when he is cuddling, he likes to run his fingers through my hair right before he falls asleep. Sweetie that he is!
Look forward to many more success stories for Eric. Thanks for keeping us so informed.

Quoting you: "Erik went through 14 months of chemotherapy and finished his treatment just prior to his 3rd birthday with six weeks of full brain and spine radiation. This one sentence holds all of the pain and suffering that my son endured."

Beautiful!

Way to go Erik and Norma!

Norma,

What a sad post. Please let Mackenzie's mom know that she is being thought of and prayed for. This is all of our fears and though it's not happening to some of us - it still hurts horribly. I can't imagine, don't want to imagine, hope I never have to..., but the reality is that all of us have the fear that we will one day be where she is now. That our precious children will have to fight to the death. My heart breaks for Mackenzie and all of our children. Lord, give us all the strength to endure.

Hi!

I've finally gotten a chance to take a deep breath since the beginning of this crazy year, and I apologize for not leaving a message sooner! I hope all is well and I am always keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers!

We have been having the time of it, but hopefully our luck will turn around soon!

Have a wonderful day!

Norma,

I am so behind on everything since getting home from the hospital. I don't even remember if I thanked you for Raggedy Ann and Andy. Brianna loves them!

I'm so glad to hear Erik is doing well. I'm still planning to send him a little something. Maybe I'll get to it before graduation. LOL!

I'm so impressed that you are going to be one of the 46 moms shaving for a cure! I thought about it, but (I'm ashamed to admit) I just don't think I'm that brave. I know it's just hair, but... However, I do say all the time that I would gladly take all of Brianna's ailments on myself if only she could be totally cured. Still, I'm secretly hoping that 46 other moms have already pledged to shave their heads so I can be "off the hook" guilt free.

Thanks again for all your encouragement, your kind words, and your love for Brianna. You and your family have become very special to me as well. Maybe one day we'll meet face-to-face and Brianna will run to you and give you a great big hug. Then, she could play with all of Erik's animals. That would be awesome.

Norma,

What an uplifting journal entry! You and Erik continue to inspire so many people. Your generous spirit and all that you do for our children is most impressive. I truly hope that one day our paths will cross so that Steve, Brianna, and I can give you and Erik big hugs. Until then, cyber hugs will have to suffice.

I wish you and your entire family a very merry Christmas and a wonderful new year.

Just started packing for our trip home to ND...heard we have snow and thats its cold...will be hard to leave Hawaii and return to 10 degrees!!
We go back to Rochester, Mn. for scans on the 15th of Dec. and I am having a hard time because our Doc whom I trusted lied to me on our last visit. Makes it awfully hard to rely on a doctor when you know they chose to lie to you. My husband on the other hand thinks I am being silly and should just focus on the fact that Jayce is well. I just feel like I need a doctor who will NEVER EVER lie to me NO MATTER WHAT the situation. It is really causing some stress. Have you ever gone through similair circumstances? Any advice?
I know I am leaning on you, its just that I don't know where else to turn. The other cancer moms I talk to have since lost thier children to this nasty beast and I feel almost guilty complaining of these issues when they no longer have there children to hold at night. Makes my issues seem so stupid...who knows, maybe they are. Just a terrible place to be either way.
I am so glad to have heard from you and am glad to see your son doing well, despite the odds. Jayce just lost a buddy a few weeks ago to medulloblastoma that he went through treatments with and it has been very rough on him. Strange but his last name was also Zimmerman. He was 10 years old and quite the kid.
Keep in touch, we love to hear your success stories and even how much you have to struggle sometimes to get there. Just shows how tough you truely are.

Tell Erik that I am so very proud of him. As another medullo mom, I can certainly relate to your journey. My son was 14 when his was found. Your story is an inspiration to my heart and gives me hope for a future. It was hard enough for me to lose parts of my 14 year old that I'll never get back and handling the burden as a single mother, to have suffered through what you have when he was a baby must have been horribly frightening. My hat is off to your family and your wonderful son and you must be absolutely beside yourself with joy on how far he has come. What you said is so true, side effects are the luxury of living. That's how we feel too. Have a very happy and safe holiday.

Reading your post tonight is totally uplifting and inspiring! I am so excited and happy for Erik. We will be praying for him as he prepares for his exams. Norma - I am sure you know about the PBTFUS scholarship program for college - I wonder if they have scholarship opportunities for young adults who are pursuing careers that may not necessarily fit into a traditional college program, but require expensive start up costs like the kennel idea you have. If not, we need to start lobbying!!

Oh Norma, I am so happy to read about Erik and his senior picture is fantastic! I am sure he will do well with his tests and I am equally positive that his future will be filled with good things and many rewards. You and Erik have been an inspiration to me (and I'm sure many others) ever since I "met" you over a year ago. Thank you so much for sharing his story with us. I'm looking forward to the next chapters.

PS - What other types of books does Erik enjoy - besides comics? I would love to send him a book or two for Christmas. I teach 7th - 12th grade English Language Arts, so I have a large collection of books from different genres and at varying reading levels. Please let me know what kinds of stories interest him.

I have just started that site, it is in my heart to tell the world and to help other families dealing with childhood cancer in any way I can. I have not reached many people yet, but it will come in time. I would love for Erik to be my HERO for December. Send me an e-mail at fisheykissescca@aol.com, so I have your e-mail, and we will go from there. I am happy to have met you, and please tell Erik he IS A HERO!!! Hi Erik,
I am so excited to hear that you will be doing some work at a vet clinic next semester. Maybe you can give me some tips to figure out how to clip our German Shepherd friend Brenner's nails - I've tried everything I can think of and the stinker still won't let me do it! Norma - congratulations on the Ride for Erik event. You are doing a great job of helping to raise awareness about our kids. Norma,

I'm so glad you finally updated. It is so great to hear how well Erik is doing (and all the rest of your family). How cool that he's going to get to work at the vet. I bet he'll love that.

I can't wait to see his senior pictures. Wow, a senior! The time does fly.

You know, you don't have to wait until his pictures come in to update again. We love to hear just little updates. The fact that there's nothing major going on is actually quite a blessing. I look forward to that kind of normal.

I spoke to your mom last week and learned all about you. She is so very proud of you and I enjoyed hearing all about you. I understand that you are quite the animal lover. I have a 3 year old Boston Terrier and she is the coolest dog ever!

Hi Norma and Erik,
Congratulations on your sixteen years milestone, FANTASTIC! I completely know the pain in your heart Norma, our kids are still with us and that is wonderful, it is just the "if only....." that gets to us sometimes. Heather did a pain management course in Sydney in June and is now pain medication free! She still has her pain but has learnt to deal with it without drugs. Hope your fundraising event is a great success.

Hi!

Happy Birthday, Erik!! I hope you had a wonderful day! :)

I hope all is well! My mom is hanging in there and I am getting ready to fix this foot of mine once and for all. The surgery didn't work, so our doc at CHOP referred us to a specialist in Baltimore. I'll be having a surgery in Baltimore on June 17th. By October I'll be able to say bye to the wheelchair and be able to start getting my feet moving. I'm hoping to play softball in the spring. Pitching is looking a bit iffy but maybe a designated hitter. (my brother so very kindly said I'd be a good benchwarmer haha)!

I am always thinking and praying for you guys! Sending a big smile and many warm birthday wishes your way!

Happy birthday Erik!

I hope you get lots of eggs. Just remind the hens that there is another way you can make money with them if they don't produce.

My Grandpa usually had eggs to sell on his farm. He told me about a customer asking how much they were. When he told him 20 cents a dozen, the guy protested that someone else's eggs were 15 cents. Grandpa said then he should buy them there. He said, "I can't. He's out of eggs." Grandpa said, "If I didn't have any eggs, I could sell them for 15 cents, too." (That's a variation on an old story, but Grandpa told it like it really happened.)

Well, enjoy being an adult. It gets old after a while.

Hi!!

I am glad to hear all is well! :)
The chickens sound like a great bundle of hard work and fun!
I was just at CHOP today for the second time this week. It looks like another surgery is going to be in order. If it helps me walk again then I'll do it! It's a pretty big surgery to under go and it can cause a good amount of problems down the road, but I'm taking it one day at a time. I'm enjoying running for student council, wrapping up my last article for the school paper, and doing lots of reading. :) I sure can't wait for summer!

Have a fantasic night!

Hello Norma and family...I just wanted to stop by and say hello and to let you know I am thinking about you. Erik, I was so happy to hear that you are taking on chickens and doing some gardening. How is it going?? Chickens are a lot of work (I know, I have helped close friends of ours with their chickens when they were unable to do so!) but I know you can do it and I am so proud of you. I also am a fan of gardening and know keeping a garden is a lot of work, too, but very rewarding as well. I hope that even with the hard work that is involved, that you are having fun with the projects you have taken on. There are truly so many things that you CAN do and I know you are an inspiration to so many. Keep up the good work Erik. Hugs to all of the Zimmermans!

Hey Erik,

That truly is a bummer about something many people take for granted by turning 17 and knowing a driver's license is ahead. I'm sure it's very frustrating as well. But they always say there is a reason behind everything, right?? So maybe you are meant to inspire someone by being somewhere you otherwise wouldn't be if you were driving. Or maybe it's because you get the privilege of having door to door service for life. (Hey, I'd really work that one, especially in the rain!!) But whatever it all means, just remember there are definitely other things in life that are more worth your while then dwelling on not having a license. It will always work out. Hang in there! And good luck with the chickens! (Sounds like lots of work to me...ahhhh!!!!) :)

I just thought I would have a little peep here and see if you had mentioned it. I am very sorry to hear that it is not to be and pray that Erik will find a happy way around this set back. Heather's year at work has not been the way we expected it to be but in the long run it looks like it will be for the best. I guess we just need to have faith that everything happens for a reason. Good luck with the egg business. So........the chickens come before the eggs right???!!!

My son,(7) was diagnosed with anaplastic medulloblastoma, stage four in November of 2008. I am contantly searching for more answers to the constant questions in my head every second of each and everyday!!! Thanks for your honesty in dealing with your sons journey. Hi Erik!

I am Lauren, and I noticed your mom signed Brianna Moore's CaringBridge site and wanted to take a look. :)

I'm 14 years old and reading your story and journal entries really inspired me. I have had two surgeries at CHOP for nerve damage and a lot of other weird, bad stuff for my foot. I'm currently in a wheelchair after just having one surgery a few weeks ago. I'll be going on a homebound schooling program soon to keep me up to date with my classes. My mom was also diagnosed with a really severe form of thyroid cancer earlier this year. She is now going through treatments like radiation and a radio active iodine treatment. You really gave me a lot of hope through your story. You are a true role model!

When it's a little on the rough side here, I'm now going to think about how strong and brave you are. You are in my thoughts!

God Bless!
Lauren

Erik - I'm not sure you realize how you made a difference in the life of another kid. In February 2006, our son, Aaron was laying in his hospital bed fighting leukemia. We weren't sure how much fight was left in him. We got the laptop out and turned onto your page. Your story picked him up right when he needed it. You fought and beat cancer. You didn't let the beast win! Livin' well is the best revenge! And now, you are working on doing just that. You guys have come a long way but you now got new places to go!

Thank you from the bottom of a mother's heart.

Love,

What a pleasure and an honor to meet Erik, Norma, Erik Sr. and a few of their very wonderful friends at Children's Hospital. Thank you so much for the most generous donation to the PBTC Foundation. This money will be used by the brightest scientists in the field of pediatric brain tumor research for clinical trials towards possible cures and less invasive treatments. Erik, you and your family are an inspiration to others and I look forward to getting to know you better. Your fundraising efforts are to be applauded!

Hi Erik,
I just got around to having a look at you site. It was great to speak to your mum last night and I look forward to hearing more about you and what you are doing. What a shame we don't live a little closer, I think you and Heather and your mum and I probably have a lot in common. I haven't had a chance to read everything about you yet but hope to soon. I better go as my little three year old grandson smells! Yep, gross nappy change coming up! Hope school is going well for you and you achieve all you hope to. If you are anything like Heather, you will work incredibly hard to get the results you want but it is oh so worth it when you reach your goal. Take care, Carole, Heather's mum.

Hi Erik,
Just wanted to check in and see how you are doing. I can hardly believe you are going to be a Junior this year. WOW! Please remember to enjoy all the good times this year as you are now officially an upper class man!!! Be kind to the Freshman - remember how scary that first year in high school can be. Keep on being the great guy that you are. Are you still a fan of rap music? I try but I really just can't get into that music. Guess I am just too old to appreciate it. BTW you can create your own music mix on a web site called pandora.com Have fun and know that I am thinking about you. I miss our chats and your cool sense of humor but retirement is pretty sweet. Say hello to all your fab family for me.

Hi there Norma...I just wanted to stop by and say hello to you and your family and let you know you are being thought of and prayed for... I also want to say a HUGE thank you to you for stopping by my little buddy's site, Austin Scott

www.caringbridge.org/visit/austinscott

and letting them know you are thinking about them and including them in your prayers as they deal with the heartbreaking news of Austin's relapse and the additional suffering their little man must endure as they go deeper into battle against this horrid beast called cancer.

It meant a lot to me that you took the time out of your very busy schedule to visit Austin's site and share your beautiful heart. You are always so tender and compassionate in your words and ways with all the warriors and their families and I want to let you know it does not go unnoticed. You're a beautiful soul, Norma, and I hope you know how much you're prayed for and cared about by so many.

You KNOW I will continue to keep Erik in my prayers for his health and I include each of you in those prayers as well. Thank you for being such a sweet friend. May God bless you abundantly!

Hi Zimmermans. Just checking in to say Hi, Hope all's well, and Happy Belated Bday to Erik! Keep us posted on the upcoming RIDE. We will not be in town that weekend, but let us know what we can do from afar [including sending thoughts and prayers your way!]. Thanks for forwarding Austin's page to us. We will add him to our prayer list, and I asked some co workers to check in on his page as well. Thanks for all you do on behalf of children with cancer. At my new position, I have a child on my roster of kids with IEPs coded "other health impaired". When I first met Corey, I noticed a distinct scar around his ear, and upon further questioning, he told me he had cancer at the age of 8. He is now in 5th grade and doing well, but please add him to your prayers that he stays cancer free as well. God bless you for your strength, courage, and determination to find a cure so that no parent ever has to hear "your baby has cancer". BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD.

All the best,

Hello Norma...Hello Erik! I hope that all goes well for the Friday morning appointments and you KNOW I will be lifting up prayers for all the tests and scans to bring us good news. Norma, you are an amazing woman and I believe you put your heart and your soul into EVERYTHING you do not just the fundraising efforts which are so incredibly important...there needs to be better treatment out there and we really need a cure....but also your heart is as warm and huge as they come and I know it goes out to all the children and families...I have seen so much of your love and encouragement and this, too, is so very important and needed.

Erik, you just totally rock, young man! Norma, what a miracle your son is and what a hero!!!...he is an inspiration and a symbol of hope for so many people going through this horrendous battle...he was so very little when his own fight began and look at him now. He's overcome so very much and I pray for his continued blessings.

I'm hoping this entry makes it into the guest book...I wrote at LEAST one, more than a month ago now, and it never appeared in the guest book. That's not the first time that's happened (and this isn't the only site to have that happen). I didn't realize that my entry didn't make it in until much later and I apologize for that...I also apologize for my lack of guest book entries, period. You are such an inspiration to me and I should let you know it more often (and I can see that you are continually inspiring others still, too...no surprise there, my friend...you are amazing!!!!). You're working so hard to make things happen and I am so proud of you and all you do. Please know you and your family will continue to be in my prayers. Hugs to you all...

Norma and Erik,
It's been awhile since I've updated on your site. I was curious about the MRA results and I see you'll be finding out soon. I was also glad to see about the drivers training evaluations. It is awhile away for us but Sophie's brother is getting his license this fall and Sophie can't wait for her day even though she is only 9 now. I have a question about when Erik had his cataracts removed and how large they were. Sophie's are not in her field of vision yet and by the Dr. considered small. Also did Erik have the dx of ADD after his tx. Sophie was dx with this and is on Ritalin and was just wondering about Erik's experience. As you can tell I am really able to think more about long term now that Sophie is 5 years out from tx.
Belated Happy Birthday to our hero Erik!

Erik is indeed a remarkable young man. His progress and and continued success against all odds is truly a miracle.

We have shared his story on HOPE With Support with a link to CaringBridge. I hope others gain strength from his courage as I have.

Your courage and faith has proven to be your greatest asset and I want to commend your mom for the constant endeavour to help you through this. Thanks for going to Nik Nunn caring bridge page.
We read the road that you took and wow what an inspiration.
We believe attitude is everything and you clearly showed that all the way through. We want to personally thank you for goning through what you did. It is courage and passion for life like your that will give our Nik more of a chance at beating this thing. He was only diagnosed in Feb and you have been leading the fight for years. Thanks again for clearing the way as much as you could.

Hello Zimmerman Family,
I got your website info from an entry you put on another page, the one for Josh Pineo. I work with Josh's Dad Scott. My son, Jeremy, is a medullablastoma survivor. I read your website and it is all so familiar. Jeremy was diagnosed on May 29th, 1988. He was 4 and 1/2 years old. He will be 25 this year. Life has had its ups and downs but Jeremy is our HERO also. He has lots of long term affects also, but we are blessed to be able to work through each one and still get to hug him everyday. He is a wonderful, kind and funny young man that is making his way in the world. I thank you for sharing your wonderful site and hope to continue to stay in touch with you and your family.

Norma I have been reading your encouraging words and I thank you so much for this. It means the world to me that there are people out there who can genuinely care and not even know me. I've read your story and I don't even know what to say. I can't imagine having a child with such an illnes. I thank god everyday that I got leukemia instead of one of my children. As a mother I think you are a warrior and I'm sure your son is the one who makes you so strong and caring. He is a warrior and I hope I will be as strong as him. You have a beautiful family. Thanks for everything...God bless you

Thank you for praying for my niece, Faith Marr. I read the story about your beloved son and was so grateful to see he survived. It gives us all hope to read such stories and how very kind it was of you to take the time to leave a note at Faith's site. May God bless you and yours and may Erik live long and prosper. Thank you so much, Norma, for the email you sent me regarding this new little warrior, Karlie (www.caringbridge.org/visit/curekarlie). I've been meaning to write back to you and thank you for your kind words to me in another email you sent me recently. You are such a sweetheart. I've been by Eriks site many times and haven't signed in for such a long time...I am so sorry about that. I should more often as I know it is important for him and for you to know you still have our support and our love! You will always have that! I know it is important for people to be aware that prayers are still being lifted, too, and I do include you all in my prayers. I always look up to you too. Your heart is always so compassionate and you are always thinking about everyone else! With all you have been through and knowing that the worry will always be in the back of your mind and never goes away, and with all you do to raise awareness, you STILL find time to lift others up and help other parents find their courage and their strength. You amaze me! I'm sending you this via email AND I will put this in my hero Erik's guest book as well! Sending you all my love and hugs....

To My Ever Dear CB Family-

I just wanted to drop you a note and wish you a BLESSED Holiday Season. I visit your site religiously but often find I do not have enough time to leave you a message of how I truly feel. I pray for your little one, your family, your extended family, your entire support system and even those strangers who pass by with a smile while you may be out throughout your day. I have learned more about LIVING through each one of you and your remarkable children than I could ever have dreamed I would. You all have the key to true happiness, Love, Hope, Compassion, Appreciation, and trust. I realize these “words” fall into different context for each of you but the common thread is that your children have you, as their parents, for a very special reason. God knew what he was doing when he Blessed you with these sweet, pure, tenderhearted angels on earth. I am blessed with three children of my own and they, as well as myself, are forever grateful for your DAILY inspirations.

We have ridden this rollercoaster ride along with you. Our sweet Meghan Norris, has had quite a long, hard year. We are so thankful that God has heard our prayers and that Meghan is now CANCER FREE. We are FOREVER bound to our Loving Father God for his Graciousness. We pray that each and every one of you feels his presence, his Love and his Grace this Holiday Season…

God Bless You and your families,
The Dorman Family

Hey Mrs. Norma,
In case you don't remember me, this is Rebecca. I used to write asking about Erik...I haven't heard from you or written you in quite some time, so I thought I'd take a sec to see how things were going for Erik. I'm still currently in nursing school and hope to graduate March 2008!! I'm counting the days! I got to thinking about him a few days ago...we're doing cancer projects at school, and my 2 partners and I are doing ours on brain cancer. I chose it, since I have a brain tumor myself. I was wanting to ask you if you had any info you wouldn't mind sharing with me? We have a good bit already, but were wondering how many different types of meds there were out there for brain tumors/cancer and some of the side effects and all that good stuff. I found some info on Tegretol, which is the one I took, but havent really found anything on any others. If you don't have any info or would rather not share anything, that's totally understandable. I appreciate you taking the time to read this, reguardless :)
I hope everything is going well for all of you and that Erik keeps building his strength like he's supposed to. My prayers are with all of ya'll. Take care~

Hi Erik & Norma,

I met your Mom on the PBT website. She was kind enough to send an e-mail to me because she noticed my grandson, CJ, has medulloblastoma & because we share the same last name...Zimmerman. :) We were wondering if we were somehow related, but I don't think so. Anyway, this is the first time I've visited your site. You are certainly a courageous, young man! Thank you for sharing your journey with others. You are an inspiration to those of us just starting this journey.

Hey Erik! I am sitting here at my computer thinking that this will be the first time in 49 years that I am not returning to school in September. I'll be thinking of you next week and I hope you get off to a really good start this year. Remember to do your very best. You picked out a really good schedule of classes. Sophomore year (also known as the tenth grade)is a tough year. You are no longer a new kid at the school and you are not yet an upperclassmen. Get involved. Join clubs. Try something new and different. Tell everyone I said hello. Write to me. Your mom has my home email address. I miss your wisecracks and devilish smile. Be kind to your brother, remember how it felt being a ninth grader. Going to high school for the first time is a little scary for everybody even the new teachers. Take care.

Erik, I had the HONOR of meeting you on Sunday at the Live Strong rest stop. As excited as I was to see Lance Armstrong in person, it was more pleasure to see him make a special appearance JUST FOR YOU! As with Lance, you are the type of survivor that defines the word BRAVE. Godspeed to you and your family today during your procedure at CHOP. I have been in contact with your mom and have already started to spread the word about your upcoming fundraiser in two weeks. Hi Erik and the Zimmermann family...my name is Karin Torchia and I was with you all at the rest stop yesterday for the Livestrong Challenge. Erik - I was sitting across the table from you as we were making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the riders that morning. My friend Cathy was also with me and sitting next to me and she, too, is a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 and a half years ago and I've been with her every step for her treatment and drs. appointments. She considers me her lucky charm so I hope that some of my luck will spread to you tomorrow as you undergo this grueling test. I will be praying for you. It was such an honor for me to also get to meet Lance Armstrong and have my picture taken with him along with my friend Cathy, but I know how much more it meant to you and to her as cancer survivors. I want you to know that you'll be in my thoughts and I hope you have a successul recovery. My mom is also a breast cancer survivor so I have made it my mission to be as involved in fighting this disease as I can. Hang in there and LIVESTRONG!

Hello Zimmerman Family!
Wow! You all had quite the day on Sunday. Kudos to John Finnegan for arranging to have Erik and family be at the first rest stop for the Living Strong Bike Marathon....and so wonderful that Lance Armstrong stopped at this rest stop just to meet Erik!!! That is sooooo awesome. I can see where this made Erik's day and made him feel real special! It should. Erik you are an amazing young man...LiveStrong!!!

Prayers are being lifted for Erik's cerebral angiogram on Tuesday at CHOP. Lifting prayers for you, too, and the nervousness that you're feeling...praying that God will protect Erik and that you both will feel God's presence through all of this, and that the results of this test will bring good news. I'll be looking for the update.

Sending hugs your way...hope you can feel each and every one of them! :)

Hi Zimmermans,

I met Erik and Erik Jr. on fathers day. I am Meghan Norris's grandpa. You are an amazing family, and Erik Jr. is a fine young man. In the long run, his physical limitations will fade into insignificance. Noone has a greater appreciation of life; and that alone will make him a success as he grows older. Reading your journal was a moving experience. Thank you.

Hello to the Zimmermans!
Its so wonderful to hear things have been going well in the Zimmerman household. :) It sounds like the veggie stand is rewarding for both Erik Sr. and Erik Jr. but in different ways! :) Hope that Erik is liking his new job. I'm not sure when school starts in your area, but I pray they both have a great year! ~~~Norma, I admire all the time and energy and especially your heart that you have been putting into bringing about cancer awareness. I'd read an earlier entry that you had posted about a talk you gave and my heart just ached for the things that Erik had gone through and what you went through as a parent. My heart just went out to you all over again as I read your walk down memory lane. I'm sure in some ways it was difficult to walk down that road again, but in other ways it must be amazing to look back to see how far Erik has come and how far you all have come as individuals and as a family. The bond you and your husband share is beautiful and the love you have for others is so genuine. I love your strength and determination to help others. You truly amaze me, there's no doubt about it! ~~~I pray your lives continue to touch others and that God will continue to bless each of you in a big way! ~~~~Hugs....

Hello Norma, Erik and Family-

I am so sorry that I was unable to connect with your family once again w/my visit to NJ. I desperately want to meet your amazing family...unfortunately Claire's car accident left us short on cars and their unexpected trip to the Beach(which was sooooo amazing)left us with a large distance from you...

I will be back soon...I know we will get a chance to sit down and chat someday....know that you were all on my mind and we in fact all spoke about your inspiration and courage...

Erik, you are always in my prayers and you should be really proud of all your accomplishments, you are a wonderful young man...

Norma, thanks for being my families source of strength and positive thinking...

Love to all of you,
Karen Dorman ( Meghan Norris' proud auntie)

CONGRATULATIONS on the CLEAR SCAN..... WOOOOHOOOO for NO CANCER!!! I'm so excited for each of you! I'll be praying about that MRA part and the blood vessels! I've read the journal updates on here since at least early March (I admittedly had to catch up on a couple of journal entries since mid May), but I don't think I have signed into the guest book at all yet. Time to take care of that! I wanted to add how much I LOVE the testimony on prayer and faith that you shared---it touched me deeply....God surely has had a hand in Erik's life, in each of your lives....The very fact that Erik is here and doing as well as he is after what he has been through, is a true blessing. I pray that God continues to work IN you and THROUGH you and that people will see in Erik's journey that there is HOPE. We pray that sweet little Meghan Norris will receive her miracle and that she, too, can stand as a testament to God's work in her life. I love the support and hope you offer to the Norris family as they are so very special to me. I see, too, that you have stopped by and visited the guest book of another sweetheart who is so very special to me---little Karlie Spurlin, that was so sweet. Thank you again for sharing your faith and telling others there is definitely hope! God bless each of you and give you, Norma, the energy and courage with your speeches (I know you said you get a little nervous speaking in front of groups) to carry on this mission of faith and hope and to continue helping with Pediatric Brain Tumor awareness.

Hi Norma- Keeping Erik in my prayers for the MRA..glad everything else is stable. Dave has been on synthroid for about 3 weeks now for the hypothroidism...we are still tossing around the idea of growth hormones...since the doctors told me it would surely induce the glioblastoma to come back and possibly colon cancer...needless to say, we are reluctant..Dave goes back and forth...it's so hard. We meet again with the endo dr. May 4th....other than that, all is well. We have brave boys don't we?
Blessings to all...

Dear Norma & Erik & all--
I'm so sorry things got botched on MRI day--like that day needs more stress? Ugh. I hope Erik recovered ok from the sedation (Genna does the "drunken sailor" thing for the rest of the day usually), and that the re-schedule can go ok. Yikes.

I love the pictures, I forgot this page address so I haven't been by in a while, but every time we drive by your house on the way to CHOP we wave (usually at an ungodly early hour of the day!).

peace,

Dearest Erik and Norma-
I am baby Meghan Norris' aunt. I just want to thank you for the support you are giving my brother and his wife during this time. It is so helpful knowing there are angels like you spreading hope and prayer for our family. We are all truly touched and can feel your genuine concern and warmth. This is all so new and shocking to all of us and we welcome so much with open arms your reaching out to us. My brother would love to meet you, he has mentioned your name many times and feels your strength. I live in california and am so devastated being so far away from them. I was just there for Meghan's baptism(as her Godmother)one day before the diagnosis and I feel so helpless being out here. Can you offer me some advice...I want to be there...We are a very close family .... but they keep telling me they are okay...I have 3 children who love their cousins and I want them all together...I love them sooo much and feel so helpless...We keep up to date with many calls throughout the day...but I still want to be there to hug them and hold them...We all thank you for your extended families prayers...Erik, you are an inspiration and a very loved young man...you are our strength...
with a warm heart and neverending appreciation,

Hi Erik and family - I came across your website from our friend Aaron Baral in CT. We have gotten to know them through CT Childrens Hospital. Our daughter was diagonosed with medulloblastoma on Nov. 15, 2005 and just finished her last round of chemotherapy. It is very inpsirational to read about your journey. Thank you for sharing so much. If you have time, I would be very grateful for some information on the support group you belong to for children with brain tumors. I have not come across any families that have the same diagnosis here.
We will be thinking of you and praying for all of you!

Norma thank-you so much for visiting my son David's page. Erik is quite an amazing young man as well! These kids have been through so much and they continue to inspire. I grew up in Pennsylvania...my parents have a summer home in New Jersey and my older kids go up during the summer months and work. I would love to communicate with you, we have alot in common. It's been a very surreal week with Dakota earning his Angel wings. Lannette is one of the most loving people I have ever had the honor to become friends with. I know you too are feeling this incredible loss. I do know he's in Heaven and finally out of pain. Keep in touch Norma and God bless,

Hey Zimmermans, glad to hear things went well. I have been praying for two days. For you things seem to happen fast and with urgency. For me, there is little slower pace, which is a good thing since I am old now. Many, many blessings to you Erik and your family. You have a lifetime of wonders to see and have happen to you. Take life by the horns, let Jesus into your heart, and there will be a difference. You will see and so will everyone else, whether they are a believer or not. They won't be able to dispute it. All of you take care of yourselves and if there is anything we can do for you, all you need to do is ask. Love ya all, Carol & Ray

Hey Eric. Tomorrow will come and you will do just fine. I know there is a fear in you as well as your mom and dad. But know this. Fear has a purpose and we all experience it from time to time. Fear is a message that God sends to all of us that all we need to do is put our concerns with him and trust in him and he will be by your side. He will guide the doctors hands. In no time you will be back doing the things that you love to do. Also know that your family and friends love you very much and as much as we love and care about you, God loves you a multitude of times more than that. You are a great and brave young man.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you know I am praying for all of you as you take this next step in Erik's journey to recovery. May you travel safely and arrive in Boston without difficulty. Norma, that song is beautiful and full of truth and I certainly believe that a higher power has many things in store for all of us. You and your family have shown such tremendous faith and love throughout this lengthy ordeal. It amazes me how unselfish your family truly is and your ability to reach out to others in need when you yourself are in need. I will continue to pray for God's guidance with the surgery and all those who will be caring for Erik. Although far away you know if there is anything I can do don't hesitate to ask. God Bless!

Saw your e-mail earlier about an MRA, of which I had never heard of. This test was done on my son Jarrette Campbell 2 weeks ago and everything proved normal. We face daily problems from delayed effect of the radiation also. Jarrette has severe central brain sleep apnea. This caused short term memory problems and seizures. Your story of Erik's journey is very inspiring. Like Erik, Jarrette is a long term suvivor, almost 13 years now, Jarrette was dx when he was 15 3/4 years of age. He is now 28 and being a typical young man in some ways, but very challanging in others. We are truly blessed to have him with us. I'm sure that Erik will do well with the surgery. Our prayers are with you, your family and specially with Erik.

thank you for sharing, and we have added an MRA for this summer at our check at StJude....Lizzie is now 13, and we see much of the same growth patterns, only as a girl, she is delayed in other ways...and hates that!!....I will be following your story, and appreciate your sharing your visit to Boston...

Hi Gang!
Just checking in on you. I know this is a very difficult time for you. I am happy to hear that Erik's angiogram is scheduled for Good Friday. To me that is comforting. It is like He is giving us all a reminder that He is here always. Of course we will be praying for Erik, and for his doctors on that day. Know too though, that we will also be prayng without ceasing for all of you, every day in the meantime too, for comfort, strength and peace. Love, Hugs and Loads of Prayer,

Erik,
Good luck with your angiogram. I know God is watching over you and your family. My son Zachary has had 3 of these, and he claims they are a piece of cake. (Just remember to keep really still after the procedure until the dr. says it's okay for you to get up again!) I will check out your site again for the news about your test.

Dear Sweet Erik -
You will never know the inspiration you have been in my life. I have known you since you were born. I don't see you very often, and I don't think I have ever told you this, but I love you very much. You, Erik, have two very, very, special parents. I can only pray that I can be half as good of a mother to my "healthy" children as your parents have been to you. I will always remember the day I visited you at home and you had to be rolled around in a stroller because your tiny little body was so sore from all the treatments and shots you were getting. I remember just trying to get close to you and you would scream - because you thought I was going to hurt you. I remember your Dad telling me how he had to give you shots and how much it hurt him to hurt you. You are an angel, Erik, a very special gift from God. And here you are today, a wonderful, young man, full of life and love. You are in my prayers daily, every day. You and your family and your Mom and Dad. You are the single most courageous person I know. I realize it is just a way of life for you - all you know. I thank God that you don't remember the early years. My heart goes out to you and your family. I cannot imagine the anticipation and anxiety your parents have each and every time they take you to the doctors. You will never know how much you have touched my life. You are an inspiration to everyone you know. God has brought you so far, Erik, and he will see you through. Just knowing you is an honor. May God continue to bless you with love, courage, and good health. Your Cousin, Debbie.

Hi Friends!
Just a reminder that we are always here and praying for you! It's so good to hear that Erik is happy and out-and-about with his girlfriend. I don't think there's any better therapy than a little normalcy!! Sheesh- he does have some extra concerns, but c'mon now- inside he's a normal kid! I'll be cheering for him in the regular kid stuff, and saying some extra prayers on those "extra concerns". For you my friend, I will be praying for PEACE. You are such a wonderful person and mother. I truly pray for you to have smooth seas and easy sailing ahead! You and Erik have been through enough. Stay your beautiful sunshiny self, and we'll keep sending those prayers your way! Love ya's! :)
