Is It possible to survive ALL when you get it at such young age.It make me so lucky. My brothers daughter went ill in july last year (5months old), got over it(!?)and now shes ill again. Were now hoping she will get a transplante. They say the odds for surviving are not good.

Hi, Nathan!

You're a real inspiration! I suppose you've told everyone that it doesn't hurt a bit to participate in bone marrow registration. I did mine by mail and was amazed at how easy the whole thing was.

Best wishes for a life time of milestones and hapiness!

Wow, five years! How proud of your sweet little Nathan you must be! That is so awesome, I can't wait until we too our making a similar journal entry for our own daughter (Please Lord!) Nathan, you are such a little fighter and inspiration for those of us still trekking down this long and overwhelmingly frightening road. May God bless you and keep you forever cancer free!

Hi there. Nathan really seems to be growing up so quickly. I know what you mean about seemingly "holding your breath" waiting for that five year mark. We hate to wish away/rush Laken's baby/toddler years, but lo, how very much we crave that first day of K-garten. Not because we want her to grow up too quickly, but because it would mean that our daughter has survived to see that five year cure mark.

Laken did not have to undergo TBI, but she does still have some issues with her immune system. She is not nearly as far out as Nathan (she is only 19 mos. out of transplant), but I was wondering how Nathan has done with immune function recovery post-transplant? Laken is still getting IVIG once every three months. The docs say not to worry about it even though it is a little unusual for it to be needed this far out. Her immune function tests all came back within normal (just a tad low on a couple) ranges, but evidently, despite the sophistication of the tests they can perform, they cannot exactly predict every person's recovery. I guess the tests do not check t-cell function, which scares me as even though I do not entirely understand all the medical jargon, t-cell function plays a role in IGG production. As you said with Nathan, we constantly live under the shadow of relapse fear. I worry that if her t-cell production is under par that it can somehow play a role in relapse possibility.

How often does Nathan have to visit his hem/onc clinic? I hope and pray that his five year mark comes quickly and that Nathan stay forever cancer free. Prayers too that his heart issues are fairly easily resolved.

Hi everyone,
I am so happy to hear Nate and the girls are thriving. We think about you all the time. With the warm weather coming maybe we can get the kids together for some play time. Trevor is going nuts he wants to make friends so badly. August 8th is coming up fast. I understand what you mean about July except our day of doom as I like to call it was July 26th. Trevor wasn't actually diagnosed until February but our world got turned upside down on July 26th with the start of his bone marrow failure. One of the many scary times we have faced in Trevors care. Keep believing, as you said "God is good". We have the utmost faith in Nate and his ability to heal. Talk to you soon, Jon, Naomi, and Trevor

Hi there. Thank you so much for sharing Nathan's story. What a fighter he has been. I cling to success stories like Nathan's. All in hopes that my own daughter, Laken (infant leukemia), will someday be three years out from transplant too. She is about to hit her one year post-transplant anniversary. While it seems unfair to wish that our children fly through years of their childhood at a time, such is the fate of a child who is seeking that five year cure mark. Many prayers for your little Nathan as he slides toward that fifth year!
