Brooke has always been a GREAT,EASY Baby. Everyone thought WOW, you guys have a good baby, never cried,very easy going, smile here & there baby. Loved her Elmo & Sesame St. & Still does to this day. Brooke had been sick for a while, I kept bringing here back in to see her Pedi. He sent us haome" push the fluids" was the thing, I did but her fever and just whole body was just like limp, she was in & out of it. I took Brooke many times to the Pedi & ER. Finally at her Dr's apt,they founf out that she has strep throat. (BREATHE) We thought that was over, easy send us home with some antibiotics and she should get better. Well that night she still did the fever thing(AGAIN) at 105.0, called her pedi who was on call at our local hospital they said get her right in. I did, then they did blood labs.before they knew anything they were treating Brooke as Dehydrated & Step throat high fevers for about 1 week. Addmitted Brooke & I felt better about that cuz then they can give her the fluids that they neede to. They did her blood work. Then Brooke feel asleep. My girlfriend Melissa was there so I went for a break & get a cup of coffee,it's around ummmm 7;00pm, I was walking back & they said we need to do another blood draw cuz(that other one didnt come out right) Who they kidding!!!! So they did anothere cbc, stopped me in the hall again and that is when he really thought that my Brooke' had Leukemia.
OMG....... I fell apart.
MY WORLD STOPPED
I kept saying NO Suh, you said she had strep throat, no, I do NOT belive you. They said that we need to get transferd to Dartmouth - Hitcock medical center in Lebanon new hampshire. & we need to go by ambulance. Now Its Late,Wicked snowing, like a BAD ice,snow,trees were everywhere,it was NOT at all a good night to be driving. NOONE would come by ambulance & drive in that weather. It was REAL Bad out. Then around somthing like 12;30am a call came in from an ambulance place & said that they would make the trip to Datmouth. So, off we went around 1;45am, now its bad out side so it took us like 5hours, it is about 2hours away. We got into an ambulance accident on the way, a BIG HUGE tree feel on top of the electrical wires on the road and we ran right into it.!!!!! NO one is around it is a state of emergency, blocked off everywhere ny tress, lines hanging down, fires eveywhere. It was just a HUGE MESS to be driving in. We arrived to Dartmouth around 5;30am, i think. They addmited Brooke & that next morning they did the Lumba Puncture & Bone marrow biopsy. They did confirm Brooke's DX as Leukemia.

Brooke goes to the Dartmouth Hospital ALOT!!
HERE IS BROOKE'S
LIFE FIGHTING LEUKEMIA

Once a month we go to Dartmouth Hospital in Lebanon(2 Hour Drive)N.H for her mediport to be flushed out along with a full check up

Every 2 weeks we go to Memorial hospital in North Conway for her to get blood work done for her counts
Every 12 weeks we go to Dartmouth hospital & she gets a spinal tap & chemo injection done in her spinal fluid
(that's her surgery every 12 weeks)
Brooke right after one of her many Spinal Taps ( Sleeping Beauty )
Every 16 weeks & 17 weeks she goes to Dartmouth hospital
for her vincristine medicine, injected through her mediport & blood work & to get her mediport flushed, along wth
A full physical ,she needs to be checked out all the time.
Every 16 weeks she needs to go on her steriods for the week, 2 times a day
(if her blood counts are good enough).

Every night she takes her chemo(6-MP) by mouth
Every friday she takes her "double chemo"
(but not when she has a spinal tap)
And ONLY when her Blood counts are Good.
Then she needs her zofran for 4-5 days for her nausea
Every Night She now takes Dapsone(antibiotic).
That is Brooke's life for 2.1/2 years.
I hope this helps you all understand what Brooke needs to do to keep fighting this MONSTER!!!!!!

Patients with ALL also present with symptoms related to a depletion of normal marrow elements. Symptoms of anemia are common and include fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, and dyspnea upon even mild exertion.
Patients with ALL often have decreased neutrophil counts, despite an increased total WBC count. As a result, they are at increased risk of infection. The prevalence and severity of infections are inversely correlated with the absolute neutrophil count, which is defined as the number of mature neutrophils plus bands per unit of volume. Infections are common when the absolute neutrophil count is less than 500/mL and are especially severe when it is less than 100/mL.
Patients with ALL often have fever without any other evidence of infection. However, in these patients, one must assume that all fevers are from infections until proven otherwise because a failure to treat infections promptly and aggressively can be fatal. Infections are still the most common cause of death in patients undergoing treatment for ALL.

Leukemia, specifically, is a cancer of the blood. The Bone Marrow stops producing the things it should and just produces cancer cells. If treating the disease was the only thing to deal with then it wouldn't be much different than having a cold. But, with cancer, the treatment can make you feel worse than the disease.

~~~~ My Life Went On~~~~
I was only four I didn't really understand what they had said,
I couldn't tell exactly but I knew it was bad
They couldn't hold it back I guess because everyone cried,
My first thought was that someone had died
They took me to the doctor in quite a hurry,
I didn't know what was wrong but I was told not too worry
My parent's told me I was very ill,
and that I would have to stay in the hospital
Doctors,chemo and shots,I was scared to death,
I was crying so hard I couldn't catch my breath
I told my Mom I'd be her angel when I die,
I didn't mean to hurt her but I made her cry
The days went on just like any other,
except for the fact that each day got tougher
One morning I got up out of bed,
picked up my hand and touched my head
Was going to touch what I thought was there,
that's when I realized, I had no hair
I took the hurt and I took the pain,
because without the pain, there would be no gain
A 40% chance of dying is what the doctor told my family,
My parents were crying as they held on to me
They wouldn't let me go, it wasn't an option,
So we had to proceed with caution
The next two years were the worst of my life,
the next two years were my biggest strife
Getting shots and taking pills all became so natural,
But's thats not how it's suppose to be for a four year old
Even though the years they felt much longer,
Those two years are what made me stronger
It was Easter morning when they told me it was gone,and just like always
my life went on.

MISS.BROOKE,AGE 6.1/2YRS OLD
Hi, Its April,12,2008. We are at Mema & Papa's house this weekend. Jay & Me went to dinner at Margiano's in Boston for his Mom's Birthday . It was So Good!!!We had a Great Time. The kids stayed with Mema & Papa for a couple of hours. They had FUN!! I love it when the kids get to see thier Grandparents. We live so far away,and its not all the time they get to see them. Especially since now they all are in school. They will be getting out of school before we know it. Time flies. We still have SNOW at my house!! Yup we do. Its starting to melt,some,. We still have BIG mounds tho-.Hopefully somday it will be gone,lik soon. Proberbly not until June. Oh, well. Thats Nature.
Well, Brooke is having a BLAST in shool she said. She has so many friends. I Just always want for her to be Happy :) ALWAYS!!! I know she will.
For Brooke's 7th Birthday Me & Mema are taking her to NY. To the American Girl Place. We are doing a Dinner & watch a play called the circle of friends. She is SO excited to be going. I cant wait. She has been saving her money for a while now & wants to spend it in N.Y. She is such the saver kind of girl. She gets that from me :)

HI everyone,
Well, Lst week I did try to update Brooke's page. i did, but then the comp. got turned off so, I lost ALL i wrote in her journal.
So, Miss.Brooke is doing GREAT!! Her school work is good. Still havnt had that meeting with the teachers and therepist ,yet. We are working on that. Brooke will be turning "7" soon, MAY.22nd is her Birthday. I just cant belive time is flying by SOOOO Fast now. Its been 4 1/2yrs since DX.!! This year will be 2 yrs OFF treatment!! Before we know it she will be driving,lol.
Talk about driving, Our almost 16yr old Jessica is now driving with me & Jay. She does GREAT. She loves to drive. Her back problems are still there since her snowbording accident. Her 5 vertabrea's are starting to heal except one is still fractured. She has her good days & bad days. She will be starting up therapy soon.Also,just applied for her first job!! She went in for an interview yesterday at an ice cream place. hope she gets it :)
Kristen our oldest is 18yrs old, she IS working at D.D(dunkin donuts) My FAVORITE place :) I love to go see her at work,lol. Kris & Her boyfriend are doing good together. They are Happy and thats what matters. :)
Anthony is getting to be such a young man. He will be 11.yrs old May.28th. He loves school,plays the trumpet & clarient. Signed up for soccor & tennis this spring/summer. We will be VERY busy this year with all the kids. As they get older things get harder to juggle.
Joseph our little man, he's 5 1/2yrs old and is HUGE, 68lbs and 3ft.10inches. Big kid. He is such a sweet boy,but then again he can be ruff at times. He loves school but still misses mumma.He goes FULL time tuesday thro-Friday 8:40 till 3:40 ,now thats a long day for a 5yr old.But he is doing real well at reading,counting,writing. They all are very different doing their own special thing. We LOVE THEM ALL.
We also, have 4 kitty's now, Ziggy who is old, Jelly is like 4, Aces is 8months or so and our new kitty is Spades 4months old. Spades is a funny kitty. When we play darts, he will sit in front of the dart board, wait for the darts to be thrown, JUMP-UP onto the board,CLIMB UP,GET THE DART OUT with his mouth,Then Climb then jump back down to the floor.!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM NOT KIDDING!!!!!! We even have it on tape, gonna find somewhere to send it into so if you know where we should send it PlEASE Email me the info @

~Hello everyone,
I know it's been a VERY long time since i have updated on Miss.Brooke & Family. Just got a computer from my brother for Christmas :) Thank You Steven xox.
Brooke is 6 1/2yrs old. 51.lbs,and 4feet tall. She has grown sooooo much and is doing AWESOME. She is a Very Happy,Healthy,Loveable,Sweet Little Girl. She Loves First grade and has made Alot of Friends!
~Brooke see's the Dr.at Dartmouth every other month and her pedi every other month, so 1x a month she has her check up. Her blood labs have been GREAT!! NO CANCER!!!! Thank GOD
Brooke loves to read & make her own books. She is a active girl but still gets very tired easily. She knows when she needs to rest. She is having some problems here & there with class work. We are planning on doing a 504 plan on Brooke with the school. This way all through school they will know that she may need special attention in certain areas.It is all because of the type of chemotherapy that she had that this has happened. It's not uncommon for this type of learning disability. I'm just glad that we picked up on it now & she will be getting the help that she will need.
Im going to attach some new pictures of Brooke' and I will be updating her page more often now.
