Eagan, Minn. (Sep. 8, 2009) —
The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits named CaringBridge as the recipient of its Nonprofit Mission Award for Innovation. CaringBridge provides free websites that connect patients and their family and friends during a serious health event, care and recovery. The Minnesota.based nonprofit was chosen because of its creative applications and nontraditional approaches to solving community challenges, and its collaboration with other nonprofits, businesses and governmental agencies.
"It's an honor to be recognized by our peers as an innovative organization," said Sona Mehring, founder and executive director of CaringBridge.
CaringBridge is in a unique position to lift the spirits of patients and their families by providing a place for them to connect when they need it most. Through a CaringBridge site, families can easily update those who care allowing the primary caregivers to focus on the person who requires healing. Supporters stay involved by visiting the site to read health updates, view photos, and leave messages of love and support in the guestbook.
A social network pioneer since 1997, CaringBridge was the first, and continues to be the largest, personal health, online social network. Since its conception CaringBridge has used innovation and vision to harness the power of the Internet to do good.
