Nathan
Welcome to Nathan's Web Page. Nathan was 32 months old when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, on June 25, 2003. The tumor was completely removed on June 26 and the cancer had not spread to the spine. Nathan had 5 rounds of chemotherapy at Children's Hospital in Omaha and a stem cell transplant at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. On May 25, 2004 an MRI showed that the cancer was back. We are now working with a neuro-oncologist in Denver, CO. After the cancer responded poorly to more chemo, we tried radiation and are waiting to see its effects. We hope it is the cure. So far Nathan has taken everything really well. Nathan is now 8 and he is very curious, very active, and just wants to play and have fun. He has an older brother Drew (10) and a younger sister Sarah (6). We are full of hope and greatly appreciate your support.

Saturday, April 25, 2009 10:16 PM CDT Sorry it has been so long since our last update -- no news is good news in our case as Nathan continues to do well. We've had to get new shoes and longer pants for him as we see the growth hormone working. We'll see his endocrinologist in July but won't do an MRI until December as long as everything continues to be good.
Nathan tries hard in school but it gets very frustrating for him. The kids in his class seem very nice and willing to help him. He had his last soccer game today and I think he really enjoyed getting to play. Nathan can't move up and down the field like the rest of the kids so his strategy has been to hang out in the backfield and he's able to clear the ball when it comes his way. You can tell it makes him feel good. Nathan always looks forward to "Ty Day" when he gets to see his friend when Sarah goes for gymnastics. Ty has been an immense boost to Nathan's self esteem and we are very thankful for him and his family.
Nathan got 6 barred plymouth rock chicks of his own this spring (Sarah had 4 banties but 1 died and Drew has about 50 black sex links). Nathan likes animals a lot, especially birds, so hopefully this sparks some more interest.
We also got Nathan a new bike this spring that he can ride on his own. His old training wheels just weren't holding up and he still had lots of balance problems trying to learn to ride without them. We'll keep practicing and eventually he'll get it but for now he has a regular bike and the back wheel has been replaced with an axle with 2 wheels. Basically it's a tricycle but with a modern/older kid look. Nathan really likes it since we can now go on bike rides on the road.
Thanks for checking in on us and please continue to pray for all the kids facing cancer treatment and those dealing with the challenges post treatment.
Take Care! Jen
