Follow Blake's Journey to Beat Leukemia

Welcome to Blake's websiteBR>

Blake was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL)on December 17, 2003. Just 11 days after his 3rd birthday, and just 1 day before his baby sister Denay was born. He was in remission early, and responded very well to the chemotherapy. Blake started the maintenance phase of his chemotherapy in August 2004. Blake received an IV injection of chemotherapy once a month in Omaha and on the 3rd month he received a spinal injection of chemo. During this time Blake was also taking oral meds at home. He had to have his blood drawn every 2 weeks to see how his body was holding up.

Blake had his port removed just before Christmas 2006 due to blood clots. He had to finish up the last few months of his therapy getting pokes and iv pokes to receive his meds and check his counts. He took it like a champ.

In March 2007 Blake received his last spinal injection and on April 20th he took his last dose of oral meds.

Blake had a very wonderful 5 months of being chemo free. He played his 3rd year of t-ball, rode horses, worked at his "ranch" and just really enjoyed being healthy. He loved kindergarten and making new friends in school.

But on September 6, 2007, our worst fears came true, the leukemia was back. Blake was again admitted to Children's Hospital in Omaha on the 5th of Sept, and confirmed on the 6th of a relapse. He's had several blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, bone marrow tests, and spinal taps. He has kept a good spirit, although tired of the hospital, and is getting stronger and stronger each day.

Thank you to everyone for your love and support!

GIVE BLOOD!!!!!!The American Red Cross is needing all types. We all want to make sure there is enough supply to help save a life! Blake has needed several transfusions of blood and platelets. There are many kids out there that also need transfusions daily! PLEASE, PLEASE, give blood!

Hello to you all! Well I write with good news. Blake's counts have been all over the board for the last 2 weeks. He was really high, with an ANC of over 3000, then he crashed with an ANC of 100 and needed a platelet transfusion. Then his ANC was up to 770 and everything else was going up slowly as of last Tuesday, and then today, his ANC is 3999, and everything else is way up too. It's great. He got to go back to school on Wednesday and Thursday, which he was thrilled about. Tomorrow he could go to school too, but we are heading out of town for my step-sister's wedding out in Lyons, CO. So he's had a great week. We will get his counts checked again on Monday, they could go down some because he gets to stop the Neupogin shots as of today (which he was thrilled about) and if his counts are good enough, he'll get a quick check up with the dentist and then off to Omaha for the week. He'll be admitted on Tuesday for high dose methotrexate and probably get out on Friday morning. It'll be a long week, but if he gets it out of the way, then all he'll have left is one day in clinic and a spinal, and he'll have cycle 2 under his belt and 2 more to go.

Both of the kids are excited to go to CO tomorrow. Neither of them have been there and I am excited for them to see the mountains! Seems like we always go east, never west. It'll be pretty up there I am sure.

That is about all I have to report at this time. I'd like to mention that there is a benefit for a local family here in Elsie, Paintin's. They had a little boy really premature and there is a benefit to help cover some of the medical costs. I know how much support we've received, and I would just like everyone to know about this family. They are in need of some support now too. There is an auction for 1 circle of custom corn harvest, and 12 bags of seed corn. They are also having a raffle for several items to win and of course a free will offering meal.

I guess I had better go finish packing up so we can take off tomorrow. Thank you for checking in on us, we always appreciate it so much!

God Bless you all!!!!

Matt, Kass, Blake and Nay
