Nicholaus Patrick Chase
Welcome to Nicholaus' page. It has been provided to keep people updated on the latest events and to give hope after living with the diagnosis of neuroblastoma. Nicholaus was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma in 1993,n-myc amplified, which is an aggressive solid tumor of the sympathetic nervous system. Nicholaus underwent chemotherapy, radiation, surgery to remove his tumor and his kidney. Due to the fact that after surgery residual tumor remained Nick underwent a bone marrow transplant. Please pray for a cure! About 600 kids are diagnosed with neuroblatoma each year in the U.S. There is no known genetic link. It just happens. NB is an immature nerve cell that develops into a cancer (tumor) rather than a mature nerve cell. Although he has been through many difficult times we want to encourage others in their battle with this disease that it can be won! Nicholaus is currently KICKIN' CANCER !!

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 4:18 PM CST Updates have gotten far and few between but no news this time really means good news. Nick has been relatively healthy and feels great. He started attending Calvary, the same school his brother goes to, where Kela graduated and where his mom works! He loves it! He is a freshman this year and now has his learners permit. YIKES! He is setting a new record. He so far except for medical appointments has only missed one day of school due to illness. He played on the JV soccer team and is swimming with the Varsity swim team. He has struggled with some pain out shortness of breath recently but he is getting a full work up and the doctors are making sure it has nothing to do with his lung function or heart defect. One possiblity is that it might be exercise induced asthma but he is getting a thorough check up just to be sure. Thanks for checking in on us. We will try and update more regularly!
