Kai's SuperDuper Page

Thank you visiting Kai's SuperDuper page. Kai is our precious 6-year old little boy. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma on March 10, 2005 after a biopsy on a mass on his left adrenal gland on his kidney. Kai has defied the odds against the numbers and statistics, the unfavorable conditions and trials. After two rounds of 72-hour chemotherapy sessions, Kai was cancer free in his bone marrow. However, after Kai's 5th round of chemotherapy, the Neuroblastoma cells showed back up in his bone marrow. We could have very well accepted that as fact; but the truth is God is the healer of ALL diseases (Ps 103:3).

On October 27, 2005 (during Kai’s surgery to remove the mass and after 8 rounds of chemo) the doctor informed us that Kai’s bone marrow is clear, and it would be in our best interest to proceed with the bone marrow/stem cell transplant. Kai went through a horrific 30 days of fighting during the transplant. He came through it stronger than ever! He then went through 12 days of external radiation. The tests after the transplant would have been devastating had we not known two things…who Kai was and who God was. The doctor’s could only recommend case studies.

They sent us to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where Kai went through internal radiation for 3 days. He smiled and laughed every day! We then waited and went through scans and test again only to reveal that there was no change. But Kai’s spirit and body didn’t match the diagnosis, you see he had things he had to do and nothing was going to stop him. Kai began an oral cancer treatment to keep the cancer from growing because he was not responding to the chemo. With no further treatment other than prayer and good fun, we waited--The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him (Lam 3:25).

Kai’s hair grew and he began an every day routine. He started preschool and celebrated his fourth birthday. In September 2006 the doctors were preparing him for another case study…back to hospitals and pain. We prayed to God to let his will be done. We trusted him completely. After scans and test to prep him for the study, we received a call from his doctor…Kai is no longer eligible. You see the cancer was gone…no longer in his bone marrow and so faint in his scans they couldn’t say that it was disease. Kai had just had scans less than a month before that showed not much change from his earlier scans and now they were clear! At the end of September 2006 Kai had his broviac line removed. He was no longer bound by any treatment. Kai went on his Make-A-Wish trip to Florida to see Mickey and Spiderman in October 2006.

We celebrated a glorious 7 months with no treatment and no sickness. Kai continued to get scans and test every 3 months. In April 2007 the bone marrow came back positive for tumor growth 10-20%. In May the bone marrow came back positive for tumor growth 20-60% and his MIBG scan showed positive. Rom 8:28 says--And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. So no matter what it looks like we know that God has a greater purpose in all that we go through. We know that God’s promises are true. Kai is healed. We will go through the process and watch the glory of God be revealed. For his word says in Prov 3:5--Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Kai’s broviac line was put back in June 11, 2007 and he began chemo treatment June 12, 2007.

In September of 2007 Kai began a case study at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York. He received two courses of antibody treatment with no evidence of change in October 2007. In November 2007 he was removed from the study. With much prayer and the peace of God we ended all course of treatment. In February 2008 Kai was tested and received clear scans & bone marrow results. We are thankful to God for Kai's healing. We know that only HE can receive the glory.

Please continue to keep your hearts and heads bowed for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph 6:12). Put your trust in the Lord, his promises are true, find peace by resting in him, no matter what the situation looks like. Keep your praise & joy and be blessed.

This update is long overdue! Just pray for me, with homeschooling and all the activities the kids have been involved in, time has slipped away from me again. Thank you to the faithful who check in and drop a word of love.
Kai is doing so well. I am so blessed to have him in my life. I am truly thankful to God for this time that we have been able to share.

Homeschooling has brought us even closer together as a family. We are now 10 months out from God’s miracle, and it has been a year since we ended treatment. Kai is not due to be tested until Feb 2009, always a blessing to remember how far God has brought us.

Now a day we pray for Kai’s safety a lot! He has little fear in him and will attempt anything once. It is usually after he gets hurt that he realizes that it might be dangerous. Recently Kai and a buddy of his decided that they were going to flip over the trampoline enclosure. His buddy lost 2 teeth. Next, Kai decided going down the basement steps normally wasn’t fun enough, so he climbed down the railing and fell 4 steps from the top! Don’t even get me started about the skateboard! But you got to love his determination to live life to its fullest. It was that same spirit that brought him this far. It only reconfirms to me that the boy has angels around him.

We recently went to Washington DC after a visit with family this Thanksgiving. I posted some updated pics. Hope you enjoy. God Bless
Pray for my husband, he’s working in Iraq right now and we miss him terribly.

Still Resting in Him,
Shana
