Jeff

June 14, 1960 - February 28, 2006

TRUE LOVE!!!

Jeff was diagnosed with Metastatic Adenocarcinomain May 2005. He was having some work related injuries checked out and they did a lot of test's including a CT and discovered that he had blood clots in his lungs. They admitted him in Moses Cone Hospital and started heparin to thin his blood. They did several more test including a biopsy of his swollen lymph node. The biopsy is where they found Metastatic Adenocarcinoma. He went to Duke University Cancer Center to get a second opinion. Their test also showed Metastatic Adenocarcinoma. With this, it is hard to find a primary source (starting point). It was decided to go ahead with treatment because it needed to be treated wherever the primary source may be. He began a clinical trial study at Duke but was taken off it because he has numerous blood clots and could not get chemotherapy on time for the trial. He tried several types of blood thinners, including a study drug and nothing seemed to help the clots. So Jeff had central lines placed to have heparin drip at home. He had more intense chemotherapy, to try to get the cancer under control. In September 2005 Jeff had a stroke. He had a blood clot on the right side of his brain, causing the left side of his body to be partially paralyzed. Jeff had to learn things all over again and he did. He had to learn to sit up, talk, carry on conversation, feed himself, and many other things. He was determined to win. He regained some of the movement back in his leg and a little in his arm. They found more clots in his chest area and Jeff became immune to the heparin so they decided to remove the lines and try a new drug called lepirudin. He was having to have a shot every six hours to keep his levels were they need to be. Things were going better for Jeff as far as the clots, he was not having any trouble with them until the doctor told him to cut back on one of his shots. He continued to have pain and aches everyday, despite all of the major pain relievers he would take and other methods to try to ease the pain. But he always had the best attitude about it all. On February 26 Jeff was not feeling well and he rested more. On Feb. 27 he began to hurt in his leg and chest at first we all, including Jeff, thought that it was indigestion. That night he began to hurt worse and said that if he still was hurting in the morning that he would go to the hospital. Once he got there they believed it was another clot, being that he came through it once we thought that he would be fine after adjusting his blood thinner once again. Little did we know that we would have just enough time to get to the hospital to tell him that we love him, and minutes later with his family (Annette, Scott, Shawn, and Crystal) by his side, he went to be with the Lord. We prayed for the Lord to take his pain away, but had no idea it would that way, at least not then anyway. Jeff was the Greatest husband, dad, grandpa, christian and friend that anyone could ever have and he will be greatly missed.
