Emily Ann House
Born: January 9, 2004 @2:02pm Weight: 4 pounds, 7 ounces Length: 17 3/4 inches
Emily Ann House was born premature at 33 weeks. My water broke for no reason on December 11, 2003 at 29 weeks. I went into the Birthing Center and had to stay there until I had her because I lost so much fluid. We tried to hold her off as long as we could. I stayed in the hospital for 1 whole month and she was born January 9, 2004. She was born via c-section because she was breech.
She had to stay in the NICU for 8 days. She was at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.
When Emily was born, she had a good heart rate. She had to have blow-by oxygen though. She was then taken to the NICU. Her APGARS were 8 and 8 at 1 and 5 minutes respectively.
When I was pregnant I had a fetal echocardiogram done because of my history of having 2 premature babies already plus losing a baby with several birth defects. During that fetal echocardiogram it appeared that Emily had a VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect). After she was born on day of life #2, she had an echocardiogram done. She had no VSD or PDA. She did however have a patent foramen ovale. This appears to be stable. She has no murmur. After she was born they had her on clear IV fluids. On day of life #3 they started feeding her breastmilk but due to spitting, they were held for about 12 hours. On day of life #4, feedings were restarted slowly. She has been tolerating feeds well. On day of life #6, phototherapy was started and discontinued the next day. She also had her hearing test and passed bilaterally.
Emily is a little developmentally delayed but not much.
This is Emily getting ready to come home.
This is Mommy, Daddy, and Emily walking out the NICU doors! She was 8 days old weighing 4 lbs 4 ozs.
