Nathan ~ MPS 1

~WeLcOmE~
This page is provided to keep you updated about Nathan and his progress. Nathan was diagnosed with MPS1 - Hurler Syndrome in April 2003. He had transplant in Nov. 2003 and he is doing really well! Continue to keep us in your prayers!!

MPS I is a mucopolysaccharide disease, and has also been called Hurler syndrome, Hurler-Scheie syndrome and Scheie syndrome. Hurler syndrome takes its name from Gertrud Hurler, the doctor who described a boy and girl with the condition in 1919. In 1962, Dr. Scheie, a consultant ophthalmologist, wrote about some of his patients who were more mildly affected. Individuals who seem not to fit clearly in either the severe or the mild end of the disease were said to have Hurler/Scheie syndrome. The specific syndrome names have been replaced with the designations attenuated (diminished severity) and severe MPS I.

There is no magic cure for MPS diseases, but there are ways of managing and treating the problems they cause.
