Journal
Monday, May 31, 2004 11:03 AM CDT Tomorrow will be our final night here in Kokshetau, and so this will be the last update for a while, since I don’t know whether or not we’ll have Internet access in Almaty. We will, however, update the page once again when we return home to St. Louis, so that we can show some pictures of our long awaited homecoming. We really, really can’t wait. We will also continue to upload photos to our gruczas.net site (linked below).
Despite the fact that this has been such a long trip – longer than we had expected when we began the application process even – we think it has been good for our new family. These two weeks in the hotel with Alexander have given us a chance to bond with him and to get him used to us before he has to adjust to many other changes in his life. We’ve also made some needed changes to his schedule and routine. We have gotten him from 5 naps a day (every 3 hours) down to three longer ones, and he is sleeping longer at night. He’s eating solid food and bigger bottles so that he doesn’t have to eat as often.
We brought him to the dining room tonight to start saying “goodbye” to the wait staff. We also learned that he has been making friends in the kitchen while we’ve been eating our meals – the waiters have been bringing him back there while they’ve there. We’d never seen the cooks before, but they all wanted to have their pictures taken with him (posted on today’s photo album update).
We are so grateful to have had this opportunity to communicate with so many family and friends who have supported us along the way. We know Alexander is going to have a big smile for each and every one of you as he gets to meet you in person.
