A Prayer for Cole

By: Cole's Aunt Missy

“For my thoughts are not you thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways.” Isaiah 55: 8-9

“Dear Lord,” the young couple prayed,

“Send us a child.

Make him healthy and strong.

We will videotape as he learns to crawl,

And hold our breath as he takes his first steps.

We will delight as we mark off the inches as he stands against the wall.

We’ll bandage skinned knees and bolster bruised egos as he learns to ride a bike.

We’ll proudly applaud as he struts across the stage to receive his diploma.

And watch with misty eyes as he takes the hand of his young bride.

Give him a long, happy life, so that when we are old, his children may play at our feet.

We have it all planned.

Please Lord, let it be so.”

But the Lord said: “No.”

“In My wisdom I will send you one of my most fragile creatures,

An Angel in need of a home.

His muscles will be too weak to run and play, or even to hold his head.

On you he will depend--for care, for food, for his very breath.

You will spend your days in the solitude of a darkened room.

The television’s litany of happy tunes and colorful characters will light your heavy heart.

From him you will learn that miracles are not only found in the scaling of mountains or the winning of marathons,

But in the smallest movement of a precious finger.

From this you will learn the magnitude of your strength, and the depth of your love.”

“But wait, Lord,” the family cried. “This cannot be so. We can’t do it.

There must be another way. We’ll find doctors, visit hospitals, the best that can be found.

Surely there is a medicine, a therapy; somehow a cure.

Or a wheelchair, perhaps. Please let it be so.”

But the Lord said: “No.”

“In My compassion, I will send others to help you along the way.

His story will touch the hearts of many.

Though his acquaintances are few, his friends will be countless.

You will meet people from all walks of life, from miles away, from around the globe.

Those who have trod in your shoes will offer support, friendship and guidance.

And in doing so, they too will find healing.

He will receive gifts by the truckload from those who just care,

And I will hear their daily prayers.

They will help you will find the courage to face another dawn when all seems lost.

Through them, you will learn hope.”

“Then take him, Lord, back home to You.

Hold his tiny hand as You teach him to walk.

Let him skip from cloud to cloud, dance with the snowflakes, and slide down the rainbows.

Let him roller-blade down the streets of heaven.

Give him wings and teach him to fly.

Let him welcome the other little angels as they complete their journey home.

Let him prepare a place for us who will follow him, who love him and miss him,

Who have learned from him, and who will never forget him.

His mission here is complete, Lord, our lessons are learned.

Now welcome him home, Lord.

And give him peace.”

And finally, the Lord, softly wiping a tear, said “Yes.”

Cole's Eyes
By: Song from 123Stitch

Eyes...sea-blue, sea-grey, sea-deep.
Old eyes...showing wisdom beyond tender years.
Suffering's silent tears.
Brief yesterdays' reflected joys.
Eyes see far beyond and know Heaven's glory.

Rock-a-bye, Small One. Sleep now. Sweet dreams.
Beautiful, beloved eyes now closed always.
Other eyes weep for their leaving.
Rock-a-bye, Small One. Sleep now. Sweet dreams.

Eyes...sea-blue, sea-gray, sea-sparkling.
Twinkling eyes...opened to the most beautiful.
Nevermore tears.
All tomorrows' reflected joys.
Eyes look back with love and laughter breaks silence.

I'm all right, Mama. I'm all right, Daddy.

Tribute to Cole, made by Anna at Just Designs For The Family

For the Webb Family
By Kim McAdams

I've never met the Bongo Boy,
but I've felt him in my heart.
And today that heart is swollen with tears
because he and his parents are now apart.

My words will seem lame and insufficient.
I know this. I truly do.
Words cannot replace or comfort pain -
but right now, I don't know what else to do.

I write. That is my solace.
You all know this about me by now -
that I struggle to try and understand
why the curtain must fall after the final bow.

Why must we lose so many children?
Why are their lives so easily undone?
And why don't others see their importance
and feel the need to run?

Our kids ARE Joy - the purest kind -
and Cole's Spirit has always shone bright.
Sometimes I've been blinded by its strength,
so glaring - there is no Night.

His struggles have been part of our lives -
His accomplishments our Hope and Joy.
We've all really come to know and understand
the True Beauty of this amazing little boy.

We've prayed for Cole when he's been sick -
and we've cheered him when he has won
the many battles which sought to crush him -
but even now, Cole's Spirit is not undone!

SMA can't destroy Cole's Spirit -
it cannot snatch away his Soul.
Cole's physical body may be gone,
but his Spirit has attained its Ultimate Goal!

Our Cole is FREE. He's soaring high -
I'm using imagery I believe to be TRUE.
He no longer needs the physical strength
to do what he's entitled to do:
to breathe, to sing, to play and run
to climb trees with Charlie and Marshall
to catch frogs and bugs and snakes and worms
(critters to which boys are partial)

I'll be honest here as I say
that I can find happiness for Cole that he is free -
but that doesn't numb the hurt I feel,
because his loss is so painful to me.

My soul aches for Cole's Mommy and Daddy -
Kristin and Dan - you're incredible. Yes, you are!
You have made Cole's comfort and happiness your LIFE
and now his presence may seem far -
too far away because there's silence -
only echoes of a life that recently just WAS -
the beeps and blips and puffs of noise
are now replaced by a constant buzz.

I can't imagine - and I sure won't try -
to comprehend YOUR loss as you must feel it.
I can only tell you that I am here -
I love your son and I just want to do justice to it.

I'm just sitting here thinking
of what I can possibly say to you -
to take away your suffering - but there's nothing -
I know it. So, I promise I'll soon be through.

Are there Veggie Tales in Heaven?
It's a question I feel the need to ask.
If not, Our Saviour must act quickly -
for He faces a daunting task!

If there are no Veggies currently there
(and I'm sure that's just for now!)
he'll be greeted by Marshall, the buddy he never met -
to guide him in Heaven - and allow
Cole to receive the peace and happiness
that his physical body deserved.
And in Heaven I know he'll find it,
and to him it will be served -
with the same true love and affection - and devotion -
that was given to him by you -
the parents who fought for his Soul to sing,
and to fly with the angels, too!

Cole's Legacy
By: Libby D. from 123 Stitch Message Board

Most of them never met him,
A few were blessed and did.
Now he's gone;
It's all so wrong;
Wasn't it supposed to go on
forever?
Cole came on "the Board"
They cried and laughed
But they mostly asked,
What is it that we
can do?

They stitched for quilts,
They collected funds,
They bought him an ox pulse,
And still they asked,
What is it that we
can do?

Now the world over
Sheds millions of tears.
All who knew him,
Wherever they are,
Are doing the best "thing"
They ever could do.

They pour out their love,
And they pour out their prayers,
And they make sure that others
Know how much they care.

Cole's legacy, then,
Is simple but strong.
Love the world over,
Shared by so many,
For not only him, but
Kristin and Dan,
And Cole's faithful companion,
Loki, his friend.

As long as someone is
Remembered, some cultures believe,
That person will never die.
Cole, our darling Cole,
In our hearts and our minds,
Will truly go on

Forever.

"I believe that angels breathe, and love will live on and never leave."

Our little angel boy went to heaven this morning at 1:26 am. He was and always will be my hero, my greatest love. Cole was such a fighter. Such a "good one" as we so often called him. He passed so peacefully in his sleep and was gone before we even could do anything. Thank you my angel for choosing us as your mommy and daddy.

"Come what may... I will love you till my dying day"

Kristin
