Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie:
WOW I can't believe so much time has passed since my last "visit"! My absence here doesn't mean I've forgotten about all of you - I continue to pray for all of you and often reminisce about our wonderful times together - mostly on the baseball diamond. I was talking with a guy just a couple of weeks ago about EP baseball and we got laughing about how Ryan would get that wry smile when he'd uncork one of his roundhouse curves & make the batter back a mile out of the box! I hope all is going well for all of you and that you've been able to enjoy the beautiful weather this week. I hope you guys made it through last weeks hail storm OK :) Hope to see ya soon!

I hope you've been able to get outside and enjoy this BEAUTIFUL fall! After the last couple of year's of less than spectacular fall color, this fall has been one to behold! Today's a bit of a "reality check", but with the weather of the past several weeks - can't complain (I suppose I could, but who'd listen?!). I hope all of you are doing well, I think of you and pray for all of you all the time. Hope to see you soon!

Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie: Well after the incredibly HOT July, we've sure had a run of several very nice days! I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying the summer. Are you planning on taking in the State Fair? Have to do that - where else can you get ____(name your food) deep-fried, or on a stick! :) I miss seeing all of you but continue to pray for each of you.

Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie (just noticed I had a 'typo' last month!)
I thought last month's weather was crazy - how do you beat the 40 degree swing we've had this week? Wow, if you don't like the weather in MN...just wait a minute!
I hope that all is going well with all of you, I think of all of you so often and pray for each of you regularly. I was just looking over some old baseball photos and of course there were several of Ryan & also a "younger guy" named Bob(& I don't mean me)!! ;)
Hope to see you soon

Welcome to "summer" in MN...& fall and winter will probably come in the next couple of days! I trust that all is going well for all of you. Sophie, are you graduating this year? Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie:
I can't believe that nearly 2 months have passed since I "stopped by" - don't know what I've done in that time, but it sure flew by! I just wanted all of you to know that I think of all of you & pray for you regularly. All of you hold such a special place in my heart & I thank the Lord for the many years that I've been blessed to know you. Just a couple of weeks ago I was looking at some old baseball pictures & came across one when the boys were in 1st grade I think. Wow, how the time has flown! Hope the weather will soon "recognize" the calendar (it's supposed to be spring!!) and we can all get outside a bit more.

I hope this beautiful fall day finds all of you in good health & full of hope, strength & joy. I'm so embarassed that it has been so long since I've "dropped-in", but my absence here doesn't mean that you guys have been absent from my thoughts & prayers. I pray for all of you regularly asking the Lord to renew you physically, emotionally & spiritually and to provide the day-by-day strength only He can give. All of you are such a tremendous encouragement to me!

To Ryan's family....just found your entry as I search for support groups. We shall never meet...but we are sharing your journey with our 11 year old grandson, Griffin, His rhabdomyosarcoma/Wilm's tumor is so rare that Texas Children's Hospital has never seen a case. Your positive spirit has touched this tired grandmother. We honor your son's battle as we are now fighting our own..

Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie:
I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving & wanted to let all of you know that you are continually in my thoughts & prayers, especially today. As I was praying for all of you this morning, Ps 121 came to mind where the Psalmist asks "Where does my help come from?" & immediately answers his own question "it comes from the Lord". I trust that the Lord will provide you strength, hope & joy today, tomorrow & every day.

Hey Shumans,

Just want you guys to know Ryan is still with us each and everyday. Not a day goes by where I don't think of RyGuy. There have been plenty of times in my college career where I have thought to myself, "What would Ryan do in this situation?" He is a class act and someone I looked up to and still do. It is days like today (and everyday!) where I am very thankful to have had someone in my life like your son. To this day, I have never met someone that knew as much sports as I did, except Ryan. He knew more!

I hope all is well and you guys had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Love ya guys!

Ryan- where does the time go? 3 years?! Already?! It is crazy to think about all that has happened in the past 3 years, but you are always in my thoughts and so is your family. I am even volunteering with Make-A-Wish as a Wish Granter and you are my inspiration. Even though you are gone, you are definitely NOT forgotten, and you have made and still make a significant impact in my life and many others. So, thank you for that and being the strongest person I have ever known. I miss you A LOT!

Our 13 y/o daughter was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma Monday, October 13th, 2008. While it only took a week for the diagnosis (she too presented with lower back pain and they found a herniated L4L5 along with the cancer) they feel that Hannah's cancer has been there and growing for 6-18 months.

Just wanted to thank you for keeping your site up and while we pray for a different outcome we know that God may choose to take her home before we are ready as well.

My barely 2 year old nephew was diagnosed last month with a rare childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. This has been very devastating to our family and is very heartbreaking. You can't feel how much pain it is unless it happens to you.
Unfortunately, there isn't much attention in Childhood Cancers since most of them are rare cancers. In effect, there isn't much studies and research done for their cure.
I signed the petition "Cure Childhood Cancer - Another Inconvenient Truth". I'm asking you to sign this petition to help us reach our goal of 1,000,000 signatures. I care deeply about this cause, and I hope you will support our efforts. Thank you!

Cure Childhood Cancer - Another Inconvenient Truth
Target:
News media (e.g. 20/20, Dateline, 60 Min.) - we need to tell our story!
Sponsored by:
CureSearch & Texas Children's Hospital

RAISE AWARENESS & FUNDING FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER
Childhood Cancer Facts

- Childhood cancer is the #1 killer disease of our children, more than from asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies, and pediatric AIDS combined

- 1 in 300 children will be diagnosed with cancer before age 20
- Each year 3,000 children die, and 35-40,000 are in treatment

- The National Cancer Institute's (NCI) federal budget was $4.6 billion. Of that, breast cancer received 12%, prostate cancer received 7%, and all 12 major groups of pediatric cancers combined received less than 3%

OBJECTIVE - RAISE AWARENESS

-Deliver signatures to ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox and challenge every prime time, investigative or news media to produce a special devoted solely to childhood cancer.

- The show will RAISE AWARENESS OF THE PROBLEM and show how special these kids are. Show how they face fear, pain, boredom and the unknown, many times for years on end. They may live or die, yet each will forever impact those around them in ways beyond their years.

Dear Shuman Family, You don't me, but my beautiful daughter, Britney died last July 6, 2007 of the same disease your son Ryan died of. She was 16 years old. Britney was diagnosed with Aveolar Rhabdomyosarcomaa in November of 2004. She was 13 years old at the time and a soccer player, surfer and dancer. She battled the disease, went through remissions like Ryan, but the 3rd time, it spread to her lung and she couldn't fight it. We miss her every day, but know she is in good company in Heaven. I just felt like I had to reach out to you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Karen Stygar

Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie:
I apologize for not "dropping in" lately - don't know where the time goes [could that be why aging is called "over the hill"? Time goes more quickly ;)!] Anyway I trust that your "summer" (at least on the calendar, if not the weather) is going well. I think about & pray for all of you continually and trust the Lord will provide strength & hope sufficient for each day. I quote Prov 3:4&5 regularly, but it is so needed in our busy, hectic lives..."Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart & lean not on your own understanding..." Shumans, we continue to keep you in our prayers each and every day for strength and peace and realize that even the change of seasons is so difficult. With Spring comes new growth, evident by even the tiniest buds on the trees. We know that hole in your hearts and your lives can never be filled, but we hope that every day you find new memories and events that will bloom and fill in around it. Ryan continues to be one of my biggest heros, and I know that he smiles down on you every day and watches over you all. We are anxiously awaiting news and info about Ryan's Golf Tournament and are hoping that this year we can volunteer to help in any way we are needed. If you need flyers, posters, e-invites, etc. designed, please let me know.

Dear Shumans,
I am sure you do not know me, but I have heard so much about Ryan. I am dating Zack Silverman, one of Ryan's best friends. Ryan has impacted Zack's life so much and Zack thinks about Ryan everyday. Ryan sounds like he was such a strong person and I hope that I can be like him. Thank you for allowing Zack to still be in your life because I know he wouldn't know what to do without your family. I wanted to let you know that I am participating in Relay For Life at the University of Minnesota and that I have mentioned Ryan in my requests for donations as someone that I am walking for. Again, I know that I never had the privilege to meet Ryan, but I do have the privilege to honor his memory.

Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie:
I sincerely hope that you are all having a good week (kind of surprising hearing about EP high closing today!). I wanted to let you know that all of you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie:
I hope you're finding a way to stay warm on this COLD February afternoon. I just wanted to drop-in and let you know that all of you are continually in my prayers and thoughts. How about a "warm" verse for a cold day... "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." 2Cor 1:2-4
Hoping all of you are able to experience the comfort of the Lord today, and in the days to come.

Dear Shumans,
I am very good friends and was in cheerleading with your daughter Alicia. She is outstanding and I would only assume that of Ryan and your daughter Jessica. I never had a chance to give you my deepest sympathies. I didn't know Ryan that well but knew very much of him and he was good friends with quite a few of my own. It hurts at the heart to hear his story and I feel so much for your family. Ryan and your family will always be with me in my heart. Hang in there, he's in a good place and is being taken very good care of.

You have all been in my prayers this week. I can just imagine the hockey game that took place in paradise on ryan's birthday. I hope this season brings you comfort and peace -- Knowing that Ryan is in a much better place, and has already fulfilled his mission on this earth. His lifework is over and he is able to rest now and await your arrival. Ryan touched so many lives. He is counted as one of the people I am most excited to see when I get home to Jesus. What a privelege it was to be his nurse. Our family will be praying for you this holiday. -- I am looking forward to any of my 3 boys playing on the Ryan Shuman Ice rink. I remind my boys to enjoy their sport while it lasts -- Ryan's life has blessed so many and still continues too! A life well lived never loses its power!

Dear Shumans,
You have been on my mind so much this week and also as Ryan's birthday approaches. We know your pain never goes away and that some days it must be completely unbearable. But I thank you for the strength, courage, and hope that you show in the midst of this pain. There are many parents just beginning the journey of life without their child and your witness of God's love and grace may help them begin to heal.
I passed Ryan's picture outside the hockey rink last week and it reminded me once again to live life with joy and appreciate everyday. May the Lord bless you with much needed comfort this month and always and thank you for sharing your amazing son with all of us.

Hey Shumans,
Thinking of you all today as it reminds me of how thankful I was to have Ryan in my life. Today I must admit I had quite a smerk on my face after I got out of bed and saw snow coming down... and I'm talking about coming down.haha. It made me think a lot about ryguy and the way he lived his life-to the fullest! He never gave up, never complained, made the right decisions in life, had great food tastes(maybe a little plain haha), loved sports, loved his family, just the perfect man that I strive to be today.

Life is unfair sometimes and certainly this was one of those times, but in the words of my great friend Ryan Shuman, "Life may weaken you, but just come back stronger."

Many candles will be shining brightly tonight!

A journey that both of our families had to walk in this past year is something you would never imagine or prepare yourself for. Everyday I try to see the goodness that is brought out of our pain in losing Ryan and Nadja. In this time my thoughts are focused on God and the hope and promise he remains steadfast in. He is true goodness and is our strength in our pain and misunderstanding. Suzi, you have been a huge strength in my life now living without my Nadja. God has poured his blessings onto you and you probably don't even know how you have impacted me. Ryan is smiling down saying "job well done mom, go on and spread God's word and you too will see his glory as I am forever in his light waiting for you" I love you and your family and pray continued peace in knowing of eternal life our children have recieved. Thank you Lord for our journeys and the faith that has come from it. Continue to be in our hearts, thoughts and actions. Amen

Hey Shumans,
Hope all is well and wishing you guys all the best. I moved in here at the U yesterday and so far I'm still alive. haha As they say I am now on my own. I decided to go up to 5B this morning and see the place and how it has changed with all the "new" rooms that Ryan always had to hear the drilling for. They were obviously just gorgeous and it's to bad we didn't get an opportunity to watch a game on one of those flatscreens. More importantly I wanted to find out information on volunteering on the floor and help give back to a place that treated my special friend. I was quite surprised when I talked to the nurses at the Roundtable every single one had heard of Ryan's story and wanted to pass along their best wishes to you guys. It really is amazing how much of an impact he had on people and continues to live on today. As I started to leave it really it me how much I miss him. I have never met someone who loved sports as much as I do as Ryguy. Feel free to visit me if you guys ever come down here to the U and want to check out my crib (literally). Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know I'm still alive and hope all is well.

Take care,

Bob and Suzi,
It was truly an honor and privilege to meet the two of you yesterday at the Time to Fly race. As my sister said, we decided to participate in this event after following Ryan's story. Although, I never had an opportunity to meet Ryan, his determination and will to make a difference in fighting childhood cancers amazes me. A favorite quote of mine seems appropiate to share with the two of you. "Leaders aren't born, they are raised!" After meeting the two of you, it's evident that Ryan was blessed to have you both for parents. As my sister Kathy mentioned if we can volunteer in any of the upcoming events, let one of us know. Thanks again for taking time out of your busy day yesterday and I send my best to you always.

It was truly a pleasure to be able to meet you this morning at the Time to Fly Race. As my twin sister and I told you the reason we knew about the race and chose to participate was because of Ryan's story. It's amazing how Ryan touched so many lives through his battle with this horrible disease. Even though I never had the pleasure to meet him, I amazed at the impact he made on so many people just by living in the moment. Please let us know if you need volunteers for any of the upcoming events. It would be an honor for us to represent your son and family as you continue on with the work that Ryan started in such a BIG way. Take care, and God Bless. Kathy

Sorry I haven't dropped in for a while, I am praying for you guys regularly. I hope you had a relaxing Memorial weekend & were able to enjoy some time with family and friends. I think of all of you continually and continue to ask the Lord to provide you strength, hope and peace sufficient for each day. Proverbs says it well "Trust in the Lord with all your heart & lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him & He will make your paths straight" (Prov 3:4-5)

Just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers, always asking the Lord to comfort you in each needed moment. One of these days Suzi we need to get together, but in the meantime, just know that I am thinking of you.

Hi Bob, Suzi, Alicia, Jessie & Sophie:
I wanted to "drop-in" & tell you that I'm thinking about you and praying for all of you. The Lord has promised that He will guide & direct - IF we trust & obey, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight" Prov 3:4-5

Hey, my name is Matt Hoff and I met Mr. & Mrs. Shuman at the KS95 kids radiothon this year and I want to tell you what a honor it was meeting you. You are a very strong family. I was just wondering if you still had any of those wristbands left with Ryan's name? My sister made me some when I was going through my treatments and it ment the world to me when people wore them. So if you could e-mail me, if you had a few that I could have because I know some of my family and friends would love to support and honor him. Thanks, and stay strong!

Hi Shuman's & Sophie:
How are you doing today? I will continue to ask the Lord to provide you with the strength, hope & peace (that only He can provide) to get you through each day. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Jn 14:27

Hi Shumans,
We wanted to let you know that you remain in our prayers each and every day. You are thought of often. And Ryan is always close by in the hearts of minds of so many who care and mourn your loss and emptiness. We hope you feel the strength of all of our prayers and feel lifted today, as we celebrate Spring and just a tiny piece of the wonderfulness that heaven will hold for us all one day. God Bless you all.
