Ryan Shuman
Welcome to Ryan's story. 12/12/1988 - 12/01/2006
On September 1, 2004 Ryan was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a muscle cancer. On December 1, 2006 - Ryan earned his wings and is now at peace in heaven after his courageous 29 month battle.
July 14, 2004 while at Hockey practice, Ryan felt some pain in his back, which was thought to have been a deep tissue bruise resulting from an injury. After 6 weeks of doctor visits, it was determined that Ryan was diagnosed with stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma. Ryan fought this illness as harder as anyone could ever imagine for the next 11 months. Almost a year to the day (July 15, 2005) he was declared Cancer Free!
He began training hard to have an opportunity to return to the ice for his junior season at Eden Prairie High School. However, his dream was cut short when he felt pain in his left knee after his first day of tryouts. That pain proved to be a tumor in his lower femur just 4 months after being declared cancer free.
Ryan then began round 2 of his battle. The doctors and Ryan’s strength kept his cancer limited to his knee until April 2006. It then began to spread very fast through his body.
True to Ryan, he met this battle head-on and he fought it hard. We are so proud of Ryan’s strength, determination, will power, and courage. He has left a legacy with all who have known him and for many that never did know him.
If you get a chance, please feel free to sign in the guest book.
Dear God, You know better than anyone that I have some good days during this difficult journey, but I have many more that are filled with suffering and fear, and that I fear most are all the unknowns that lie ahead. Steady me Lord, and help me always to be mindful that You are besides me every step of the way, every day, every hour, every minuet. And help me always to remember that the best - something unimaginably wonderful- is yet to come. Amen

Wednesday, December 12, 2007 12:24 AM CST Today we awoke to find the most beautiful gift that only Heaven could send. The trees loaded with ice on a sunny winter morning. The whole world shimmering in white, no branch left untouched. The warmth of the sun shedding crystal shells that appeared like broken glass on the newly fallen snow. Almost appearing as thou the inner dome of heaven had fallen.
It brings a warm glow to my face as I think of how Ryan would have enjoyed such a Heavenly morning. He always had a way of making simple pleasures amazing!
He would wait by the window with great anticipation of the guest to arrive for each holiday, each birthday, and always gave a grand farewell of gratitude as they departed.
Today we celebrate Ryan’s 19th birthday in Heaven. The guest list must be amazing!
Our memories of Ryan are much like the season, it’s the only season that sends shivers up your spine and warms your heart at the same time.
We wish you and your family a snow globe Christmas!
