Kendall Rose

SU2C

~

Welcome to Kendall’s Web Page. It has been provided to keep you updated on her 3+ year journey with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and Avascular Necrosis (AVN).

Kendall was diagnosed with ALL on January 12, 2004. A routine visit to the pediatrician with flu symptoms and a very bad headache resulted in a trip to the ER where our lives would be changed in an instant. With a white cell count of 328,000 (435,000 the next day) and 98 percent blast cells in her peripheral blood, it was evident she had Leukemia.~~ High Risk - T-Cell - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia was the confirmed diagnosis after a Bone Marrow Biopsy and Spinal Tap.

The first year, Kendall went through 6 phases of intense chemotherapy ~ Induction (slow early responder), Consolidation (w/ cranial radiation) Interim Maintenance, Delayed Intensification, and then repeated Interim Maintenance and Delayed Intensification again. In January of 2005, she began the Long Term Maintenance phase of treatment, which lasted until she crossed the “chemo finish line” and ended her cancer treatment on April 24, 2006!!! CHEER!!!

About a month into Maintenance, Kendall began limping. An MRI showed that Kendall had developed Avascular Necrosis (AVN). AVN is a disease resulting from the temporary or permanent loss of blood supply to the bones, causing damage to the bones and joints. This was caused by the steroids!! YUCK!! Over the course of the next year the disease got progressively worse, causing both her femoral heads to totally collapse, and the pain in Kendall’s hip joints became unbearable. Walking became a constant struggle. On November 22, 2006, Kendall had a Full Hip Replacement Surgery on her left side at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester!! Her right hip was replaced on March 1, 2007.

Well, it’s been a long time since we updated our page and this will be the last update. Our journey started almost 6 years ago and I think we are done. Kendall’s Leukemia treatment started January 12, 2004 and as of today she goes in for long term follow up once a year (everything look great). The new hip replacements she received in 2006 and 2007 are doing great and she will have them looked at every 5 yrs. Kendall started growth hormone therapy 3 yrs ago and is now almost 5 ft 5 inches tall. We’re going to stop taking the growth hormone at the end of the year before she gets too much taller than her mom.

Kendall has had an exciting year. She turned 16 this past October, got her drivers license, joined the Eden Prairie High School swim team and is going great academically.

We want to thank all of you who have followed Kendall’s journey these past 2148 days. The journey at times was difficult, but Kendall’s courage and bravery along with your prayers, notes, friendships and gifts made it all an incredible experience that we will cherish and remember forever.

Wishing you all good health.

Love
Kendall, Chris, Suzy and Bob
