Tuesday, June 28, 2005 6:59 PM CDT Hello to you all...
Today at 10:00 a.m. we lost Kathy to leukemia.
With Kathy's apparent improvement in health a few weeks ago, we thought we had caught a break. A chance to clear her infections and receive more treatment that would potentially extend her life. But this apparent break only turn out to be a mirage. In brief, this past weekend Kathy's leukemia came back in force. I took Kathy to the U of M early Friday morning to see if a change in treatment was an option. The U, to its credit, tried everything to counter the leukemia and resolve her infections. It became apparent early Monday morning that there was nothing more that could be done and Kathy's life was near its end. Kathy and I returned home Monday afternoon as we gathered our children and family. Kathy waited to leave us until our parish priest had arrived and our children had awaken this morning. Our children and I were at her side as she set forth on a new journey that I am sure will lead her back to her mother, Suzanne, who past away two years ago.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, July 1st, 10am, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 311 S. 3rd St., Stillwater, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church atrium. Private family interment will be held at St. Michael's Cemetary in Bayport. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Foundation or the Minnesota Medical Foundation (MMF). Funds will be used for leukemia research.
Kathy sends her love to you all from above now and she knows that you all have walked by her side as she gave this monster a fight that it will not soon forget.
I will always love her and I will never stop missing her...
Love to you all and again thank you all for your prayers and support over the past year.
This will be my last journal.
Tom
