Sara, I am so happy for you and your family. I don't know if you will remember me. We met at Carpet King around 2007-08.
I had been to Medjugorje and we shared our faith. I just found the info you had given me and I found your 2 children's photos. God Bless all of you!

Hi. My son is Dominick and was just diagnosed with small round blue cell. I can't tell you how much it means to me to have found your success story. I was literally just on the internet looking up the prognosis for this type of cancer. Let's just say it wasn't good. But what came to mind was a scripture verse that says, "With man this is impossible but with God all things are possible." My boy absolutely loves baseball so I can 't wait to watch him play again. Thanks for giving me hope.

You truly are a miracle of God. God bless all that you have been through and that from now on you will not have to deal with this horrible disease again. You truly are an inspiration for others who are dealing with this that prayers can be answered. My cousin who is 3 is going throught the same thing...please pray for him too. Maybe God will help him like he helped you.

A very good friend of mine just found out her 6-year-old son has Stage 4 neuroblastoma. He just went through his first round of chemo this past weekend. It seems as if most children are diagnosed around the age of 3. This boy is 6. Can anyone who has gone through this terrible disease please e-mail me? Thank you, Daniel, for bringing hope to all those around you. You are truly a faithful miracle child.

Thank you so much for your success story. My 3 y/o grandson was just diagnosed this week with Stage IV neuroblastoma. He has some additional testing that needs to be done before he starts chemo next week. I was truly uplifted by your story! The power of prayer is amazing and we are hopeful that God will answer our prayers and Khane will also be a survivor of NB.

Dear Daniel and Family,

Having our 10 month old diagnosed last week with Stage IV Neuroblastoma, I am seeking out other Neuroblastoma survivors to pray for. We have received so much peace and love from the hundreds of people praying for us and I want to pass it on. We have entrusted our son's life and treatment into God's healing hands and hope for a battle victory such as yours. I will pray that Daniel will always be cancer free and that he will not live with any fear of its return. God bless you! Maren Snyders (mother of Emmett)

Daniel's story surely gives me hope. My daughter Natalia was diagnosed this July (2008) with Stage IV neuroblastoma. Like Daniel, I KNOW she is going to be a survivor. It would really be good to speak to Daniel's parents if they do not mind being gotten in touch with. Natlia is being treated in Toronto at the Hospital for Sick Children. Right now my husband and I are faced with a decision about her treatment that is pretty hard to make so I'm looking to talk to parents who've been through this ordeal.

I am happy that Daniel is doing well. In 1992 I had a son that was diagnosed at age 3 1/2 with stage IV Neuroblastoma. He was given a less than 10% chance of any kind of remission. I am glad to say that Brandon turned 20 years old in October and is doing great! He is a full time college student studying architectural landscaping. The only side effect he has from his disease and treatment is that he is small. He is 4'9" and weighs 85 lbs. He doesn't seem to mind and is a happy well adjusted individual. I just wanted to let you know that things can and will work out as long as you believe they will!

I came across your site doing a google search using the words Neuroblastoma survivors. My son Brody is three years old and as I write this, laying in his hospital bed going through transplant #2. I hear and read so much about the children that have passed from this disease that it becomes hard to believe that children do survive and grow up, making it through this. At this time, I just really needed to hear the story of someone who has survived and is thriving, you gave me hope for my son. Thank you.

I understand your journey. My son, Brady, was diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma shortly after he turned 3 in 1993. It had spread from his ankles to his skull invading every growth plate in it's path. His bone marrow was 95% cancer cells. His prognosis was about 18% for survival. He went through Chemo, radiation, surgery, bone marrow transplant and MIBG therapy. He spent his 4th birthday in the bone marrow unit where he would remain for 13 weeks. He spent his 5th birthday in San Francisco undergoing follow up from his MIBG therapy. He's known as the miracle kid at OHSU. We never gave up hope. He will turn 18 in 3 more months. Every day is an adventure. Brady has taught me a great deal about courage and strength of character. He has grown into a wonderful young man and I have a great amount of admiration and respect for him. Enjoy each day and keep the faith.

Hi Sara,

Once again, thank you for your kind entries on Gabbie's guest book. Some grieved parents think that only those who have lost a child can understand but I would disagree. You and some other kind souls have expressed so much understanding and I want you to know I appreciate it very, very much!!

God bless to you, Daniel, and the rest of the family.

Dear Sara and family,

Just wanted to come by and thank you again for all the kind notes you leave in Gabbie’s guestbook. You will never know how much it means to us and how uplifting it can be! I’ve said this before, but I know it must be hard to come to the sites where a child died from the same cancer that Daniel battled—so your notes are very special.

I also see you sign many other guest books offering hope or condolences and I know many others appreciate you too.

Praise God for Daniel's continued remission!

God bless,

Hip hop, hippety hop
My “Easter Bunny” went off to the shop,
He bought me an egg and lots of chocs
And packed them into a cardboard box.
Then he wrapped it with paper and shiny string
It really was such a pretty thing.
Disaster struck when I opened the door-
He slid across the parquet floor,
He went round the corner and past the stairs
And finished up in a pile of chairs.
Of the Easter goodies not a trace,
he’d thrown them into my fireplace!
So a warning before you go opening doors
Make sure your “Bunny” has non-slip paws!

Happy Easter

With lots of love,

Everyone at Post Pals

Hi Daniel and family, I found your website on caringbridge and read about your courageous fight against Neuroblastoma. I have a nephew who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma when he was a year old, he too had to have a bone marrow transplant (with his own bone marrow). He is nineteen years old today and doing terrifically. He was written up as the "Miracle Child" by the University of Minnesota where he had the bone marrow transplant. The best of luck to you , you can fight it!!!!
Ironically my 22 year old son is going to have to have a bone marrow transplant within a couple of weeks for ALL.
They will be using cord blood as well. We pray for our miracle too!

Hello all and God Bless you for a site like this. We just found out about 2 weeks ago that my 14 month old niece has a brain tumor (ATRT -atypical territoid rhabdoid tumor) she has already had surgery to remove the tumor and begins chemo and radiation therapy next week. It has been a trying time for our family but we have encountered many sites like this one. We know that there are alot of people out there praying for my niece and my brother and his family and I would just like to let you all know that we are praying for your families as well and would just ask that you include my niece Jillian in your prayers as well. Thank you and God Bless you all, may we all keep up the good fight.

My daughter also had neuroblastoma stege 4.
Been off treatment 10 months but were still terrified of all her scans. Weve been told that she has 30%chance of the disease coming back.
I will say a little prayer for the children like ours.
My daughter has been left paraylised by her tumour but she continues to smile all the time.
Wishing you well for future scans.

Hi Daniel. I'm so happy to hear you are doing much better. I have a little girl with Neurofibromatosis Type 1. She can get tumors anywhere on her nerve endings. She is 6 years old and her name is Kyleigh. So far she has a brain tumor on her optic nerve and a neurofibroma, a tumor on the bottom of her right foot. Chemo is an option that we may soon deal with. She was diagnosed 3 years ago. I'm sorry for you, and I will pray for you EVERYDAY! God heals, and it seems to me that HE has done a great job with you. May God bless you and your family.

A PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS

God Give Us eyes this Christmas
To see the Christmas Star.
And give us ears to hear the song
of angels from afar

And, with our eyes and ears attuned
for a message from above,
Let "Christmas Angels" speak to us
of hope and faith and love

Hope to light our pathway
When the way ahead is dark,
Hope to sing through stormy days,
with the sweetness of the lark

Faith to trust in things unseen
and know beyond all seeing
That it is in our Fathers love
We live and have our being

And love to break down barriers
of color, race and creed,
Love to see and understand
and help all those in need.

Lord, bless those we love this Christmas Day,be they near or far away Bless those good friends who mean so much and those with whom we're out of touch. We bring them all to You in prayer, and ask You to keep them in Your care.

Please know that you are thought of, in a very special way, not just this beautiful season but every day.

Dear Daniel and Family,
My daughter has a platelet disorder and I somehow found out about caringbridge. What a WONDERFUL thing! We set up her website after I came to your website and decided that it would be wonderful for her to see how many people love her. Even people we don't know have already come to her website and signed the guestbook. It is a huge amount of encouragement for all of us to know that so many are praying for and thinking of her. I want you to know that we are praying for you, too. From the information on your site, I see that you've already beaten the odds. You keep on fighting!!!

I have followed your webpage for a long time through Gabbie.

I am so glad Daniel is doing so well.

I am so saddened by the loss of Carl. Although I didn't know them personally, I had followed Carl for a while as well. Sometimes I think I spend too much time following caringbridge kids as it breaks my heart so often. I do feel that the families need these guestbook entries to keep them going sometimes.

Hello, My name is Francesca Demers and my 3yr old son was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in January 2, 2004 of this year, and we are also down at Sloane Kettering! Jack has gone through 7 rounds of chemo, radiation, tumor resection, and then another kidney removal surgery and we are about ready to start his antibodies on this coming Monday. These pictures are beautiful and an absolute inspiration. Jack's scans came back CLEAN as of today and I am thankful everyday for the amazing doctor's at Sloane. We are doing well, and I am so happy to see that you are all well also. It is a long road, and we are only 10 months in, but each and every day is an absolute blessing. I am so happy to hear that Daniel is enjoying kindergarten. You seem to have a beautiful family through your pictures. Thank you for sharing them with others. It really does help. We will acually be at Sloane tomorrow!! Our website is not through CARINGBRIDGE but I often check in on all of the heros on this website that are beating this dreaded disease. We are at hopeforjack.com if you ever get a chance to visit us. God Bless you all, It is so nice to see a happy story admist all of this horror. My love to you and your family. We will look for you at Sloane!

Hello Daniel

I have a grandson 10 years old. He is a hockey player and is very important to my family and me. He was born with a heart defect and endured two surgeries and much discomfort during the healing process. I'm sure you can relate to his heroic story. I have always had "little buddies" in my life. First my little brother, Jack, then my wife's little brother, Kevin, then my son, Jason, and finally my grandson, Alexander ("The Great") as my mother calls him. These young people have all had a profound affect on my life and have contributed to whatever success I may have achieved in my life by making me a better person. I wish you well and a long fulfilling life. I hope you are many “someone’s little buddy”. Please know that I will continue to think about you and I promise to follow your already remarkable life through this web site.

Best regards, Tom Lodes, Alex's grandfather.

Hello Daniel and Family,
You don't know me, but I was refered to your website thru caringbridge for setup samples. My son Jamall is battling neuroblastoma at this time. He was diagnosed in April of 2002 on his 5th birthday. I just wanted you to know that I'm thankful that your son is doing so well and continue to defeat all odds. Currently Jamall is geting ready to participate in a clinical trial for a new drug called Cephalon that targets only neuroblastoma cells instead of all the good and bad cells. Feel free to visit our web page at caringbridge.org/pa/jamallel
I'll continue to check in from time to time to see how Daniel is doing.

Good Luck and My prayers are with you,

Hi Daniel, My name is Erin Owens. I am also a survivor of cancer. When I was 16 years old, I found out that I was sick with brain cancer. Also, that there was nothing they can do beyond treatments and surgery, because it is wrapped around the optic nerve. It was such a tough thing to deal with at that age, and somedays I was very upset and sad, but when I read stories like yours I feel bad. Because you are so so strong and so young, and I didn't have to deal with it at such a young age like you. You are a true inspiration to me Daniel. I wish you all the happiness in the world. You are so cute! I hope everyhitng works out for you and your family. My prayers are with you all!

I saw this caringbridge page when i was looking at my friends. My friend was wounded in Iraq and is now paralyzed from the waist down. He is getting some feeling back so they hope he will be able to walk again. When i read the entries about Daniel i had an overwhelming feeling of hope. Daniel, and your family, have been through so much and you are all so strong. When i started to read the past entries i couldn't stop. I was amazed at what this young boy had gone through. I just want to congratulate your family on being so strong. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. My thoughts are with your family and the other families that are going through these tough times as well.

Sara,

Yes I am glad I took your advice!!!! Dr. Anderson is just Wonderful!!! He is checking into the Chicago facility, and will be getting back to us soon!!! Carl will most likely get at least one more cycle of chemo first, and that will be good as long as it is doing it's job on some of the NB cells!! Thank you for always being there for us, we can always feel those Prayers and know that we are not alone!!! We are so Excited for the kids first day of school!!! Take lots of pictures, and cherish those precious moments!!! I hold all of those memories of Bryan and Sydney close to my heart from those early years!! They just grow up too fast!!! But you will have that Precious baby Mary to cuddle with and keep you company, so you won't get too lonely :0) So glad she is such a Happy, Healthy baby and it sounds like you are all enjoying her to the fullest!!! Thanks for your update Sara, it is always so Great to read about Happy, normal life!!! You are always in our Prayers too, we Love you guys sooo much and are so Thankful God has Blessed us with your friendship!!!! Take Care and Huggs to you all!!!

Hiya, just saying a hello, I have a few jokes for you today, this time about bears

Q: What do you get if you cross a skunk with a bear?
A: Winnie the Pooh!

Q: Why do bears have fur coats?
A: Because they'd look stupid in anoraks!

Sarah: It was so good to see you and your beautiful family in Chicago. I could not believe how much Daniel has grown and didn't hardly recognize him with all that hair since the last time I saw him he didn't have as much. Mary is so cute and I am so happy for you and your family. I appreciate all of your prayers and support during Rebecca's fight with NB. I have such fond memories of NYC and RMH. Becca had a lot of fun and loved going to NY. She just hated those harable antibodies. I am so glad to read your update on Daniel and will be praying for CLEAR SCANS. Please post results on listserv or email me privately. Take care. With Love, Theresa

Our prayers for all clear scans, continued strength and faith, and the love of your family and friends to always bless and guide you. Unfortunately, Cancer strikes in many different forms and all ages. Remember Lance Armstrong, and his greatest victory of defeating Cancer. In his book, he says that those with Cancer "are the lucky ones, they just don't know it yet." You are given the rare view of always realizing how precious your life really is. For, it's not in counting time that matters, but in making the time count!
May you always be able to see the hope and feel the love,

Hammer's!!!!

It was so fun, and such a pleasure to be with you guys for a couple of days!!! Mary is so Beautiful, I Love her hair!!!! Brings back memories :0) Sydney Loved spending time with Daniel and Jennifer, she gave them each a Hug when we were leaving the kids room on Saturday, and I could tell that she had enjoyed both of them so much, she told me how very adorable they are and that she Loved her time with them!!! I am so glad our children got the chance to spend this time together, it was very special for them too!!! I think the conference went by way too fast, we would have loved to have had more time to sight see, and socialize with all of the wonderful friends we came together to see!!! It was a pure Joy to see you all there, we are planning on attending again next year God Willing, and we are hoping to see you all again too!!! But before that we will have to keep in touch about the Lemonade stand and whatever else should arrise, you know Lunch for Life etc. :0) You are always in our Prayers, and we will look forward to the next time we can get together again!!!!

We are back for a 3rd time at St.Jude but he is doing very well. I started him on Protocel about 3 weeks ago. I pray that your son continues to do well and trust that God hears our prayers. I know God wants his children healed more than we as parents do. God Bless you and your family Jackie Corlette and son Dalton

What great news to hear!! Sounds like everything is headed in the right direction. Also, congratulations on the pregnancy and the best of luck with the gestational diabetes! It's a bummer but it will go away as soon as the baby is born (you already know that, though, I'm sure). I had to do the diet thing and that kept it under control but my cousin got to do the insulin shots, too. Such fun. Oh, the things we do for our children, huh?? Yeah, the list is a couple of hundred miles long. Kinda gets that way once you've spent some time in the hospital away from your family when one of your children has cancer. Know waaaaay too much about that. Hoping for continued good reports in the future!

One of my dear friends has just gone through a year of cancer treatment. She had such a hard time as an adult, I can not imagine how hard this must have been for Daniel. I rejoice that he has done so well, and will pray for his complete recovery.

I happened upon Daniel's webpage, not really sure why. I pray for you that he will continue to do well. I was struck with the pupil/migraine situation that you describe. Perhaps he should be checked out by a glaucoma specialist. I had similar symptoms and have narrow angle glaucoma. This is often misdiagnosed as migraine (even by opthamologists). Can be brought on my some medications. Treatable by a glaucoma specialist and no more migraines. Good luck to you.

Hi, Daniel. I hope you continue to improve. You must have had to be very brave to get through all the treatments and procedures you have survived. It is very brave of you to share your history with the world to help other people learn about Caringbridge, too. I am reading this because I learned about Caringbridge from the Doonesbury comic strip. I hope the publicity will be helpful to this excellent service. We all have to help each other, don't we? All the best to you and your loving family.

I am at the hospital because a dear love one of mine is sick very sick!! But when I read stories like Daniels I know with love and prayer everything will work out. Ever since the first time I read about Daniel I thought he was a great inspriation to everyone. It like reading that there is a silver linig to every grey cloud. And like my favorite song goes " It ain't gonna rain no more, no more, no it ain't gonna rain no more." I hope Daniel continous to get better. And I send all my prayer and love!!!

Thank you for sharing your story. You and your family have been through alot. You are very brave. I hope your treatments will cure you. I read your story to my family and we said a prayer for you. We are dealing with cancer in three different family members, it hurts more when it hits a child. Take Care. It sounds like your family really loves you.

Hello, Vic and Sara...

We are thrilled with the recent updates. It sounds like Daniel is doing so well! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. With close friends from work in the beginning stages of this ordeal, it's painfully evident what you've been through these past couple of years. We truly believe in the power of prayer. Our friend, Jake, just completed a 12-week protocol ending with a check on his bone marrow. Unfortunately, the results were still positive for cancer. Please keep him in your prayers. On a different note, we're thrilled about the impending arrival of your baby! May these next few weeks be healthy and safe. All our love, Mark (Herm), Margie, Matthew and Elliana Mandli

Hi Vic & Sara,

I stumbled upon Daniel's website while just familarizing myself more the caringbridge site. I decided to take a look at your page because my bf was also diagnoised with Neuroblastoma a couple years ago. He is not as young as Daniel, but is now in remission and it's been about two years. He is doing amazingly well and is working toward becoming a nurse. I'm going to see him this coming week and can't hardly wait! yay! I'm glad to read that Daniel appears to be doing well. I just wanted to send you and your family some warm wishes:)
