Daniel's Page
Welcome to Daniel's Web
On November 10, 2001, our lives were turned upside down when our 3 year old little boy Daniel was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer, called Stage IV Neuroblastoma. He had very extensive metastic disease throughout his body, and the biology of his particular cancer had all the unfavorable prognostic indicators. He was given a 20% chance of survival. Since diagnosis, Daniel has amazed us all with his courage, as he has bravely endured numerous treatments, including 5 rounds of high dose chemotherapy, a nine hour surgery, stem cell (bone marrow) transplant, radiation, antibody treatments and more. We are very blessed to be able to say that today Daniel is a happy and healthy 10 year old boy, and May 2009 marked 7 years of remission for Daniel. He is a miracle and our very precious gift from God.
Please be sure to sign Daniel's guestbook.
Mary, did you know?
DARE TO BE A DANIEL
Now Daniel served the living God, And prayed to Him each day. But evil people hated him- To them he caused dismay.
For Daniel, with his prayers to God. His enemies upset. The death decree the king had signed, yet soon came to regret.
Into a den of hungry lions, Poor Daniel then was cast. And with a stone they sealed the top- they thought he wouldn't last.
The hungry lions growled and roared! The angel shut their mouths! Shut them with God's restraining bands- A wonder to the crowds.
But God saved him by Angel hands: Preserved his life complete. Then King Darius pulled him out, While praising God's great feat.

Thanks to all of you who still check in on Daniel even though the updates are so few and far between! :o)
We have had another great year of good health--and specifically no cancer scares. This Saturday, May 16th marks SEVEN YEARS of remission for Daniel! What a gift he is to us.
We had such a busy and fun filled year but I will just mention a couple of recent highlights that come to mind. In April, for the 3rd year in a row, Daniel won the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby. He was so excited!
Also in April, all 5 of us returned to NYC for a Neuroblastoma Reunion at Memorial Sloan Kettering. It was such a wonderful full experience for us to return and visit the BRILLIANT Dr's that saved our son's life. We are deeply grateful to them. We also saw many other people who were very special to us as well. We did some very fun things while we were there--visited many of the places that were so very special to us.
We also had a consult with a specialist there that deals with late effects of treatment. Daniel is very small due to the spine and brain radiaton but he never lets it slow him down! He is also having some eardrum surgery next month--we are hoping the irradiated tissue will graft. He has some health challenges from treatment but in the overall scheme of things, he is a very heathly, happy and smart little boy! We are incredibly blessed.
Mary and Jenny are doing terrific as well. Jenny will be in 7th grade this fall. Her basketball team was one game away from playing in the city championship so that was exciting and she is fired up for next year. She is also looking forward to having more time to ride and show her horse this summer! The summer will go by fast.
Daniel will be in 5th grade and is doing so well in school. He enjoys playing all sports, esp basketball, baseball and football. He is an alter server with his big sister now so that has been fun for him. He is also very excited about going to Ontario Canada this Spring with Vic for their big fishing trip!
Little Mary will be in Kindergarten this Fall and is excited about being a flower girl in her Uncle's wedding this summer.
Before I close I would like to ask you to keep my sister Susan in your prayers. She was diagnosed with breast cancer this week. I have set up a caringbridge page for her https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/susievogel Or you can just go to caringbridge.com and type in susievogel Thanks for keeping her in your positive thoughts and prayers!
Thanks so much for checking in on us!
With Love, The Hammer Family Vic Sara Jenny Daniel and Mary
