Hi….

A few weeks before Ben was born, Mike wanted to get another Mastiff puppy. At that time, we only had one – Sam. I told him that I wanted to wait a couple more months. I wanted to wait until we had Ben and had a routine established a couple months after his birth.

Well, as you know, we never got the chance to bring Ben home. A few days after we buried him, I told Mike that maybe it wasn’t a bad idea to get another puppy after all, seeing how there was no “new routine” to settle into. It was our hope that another puppy would bring some much-needed joy into our house.

Almost exactly a month after Ben’s passing, Mike and I drove down to Montello, Wisconsin and brought Luma home. She lived up to our expectations and then a lot more. She was just what we needed at the time.

When Luma was two and a half years old, she had some medical challenges. After surgery, she was never the same again, physically. But her will to live was strong. She continued to bless our family with her gentle and loving ways for another two and a half years.

A few weeks ago, Luma was diagnosed with lymphoma. Today… Just a few days short of Ben’s 5th birthday, Luma passed on to the next world.

Luma will continue to live on in our hearts. If Ben had not passed away, we would have gotten another Mastiff puppy eventually, it just wouldn’t have been Luma. Because of Ben’s passing, we were blessed with Luma. Now, I like to believe that she’s now playing with our Ben.

As always, thank you for checking in on us. We’re hanging in there.

A dear friend, upon hearing the sad news, said, "Wow! Ben got a dog for his 5th birthday!! And not just any dog, he got Luma!" Thank you for putting things that way, we never thought of it like that.
