Journal

We got through the Epilepsy walk in August and far exceeded the Fund Raising amount for our team. Our goal was $2000, with the help of WalMart in our town, they donated $1000 of it. I never expected such a large amount as I only put in for $100 - $300. You can imagine my surprise when it was $1000. I want to also thank all our friends, family, neighbors, and local small business that gave to the Epilepsy Foundation. It just amazes me how many more people I find out about each year that have seizures. The money is used to educate, empower and for research. A cause very near and dear to my heart!!

Aleia is doing great seizure wise. Fewer seizures in October and November compared to last year this same time. YIPPEE! She went to see her Neurologist Dr. Ritter in November. We decided together to wean her off her Lamictal. This will take several weeks, but even in the two weeks since we started she seems so much more alert. She is actually giggling when I tickle under her armpit….She has NEVER done this before. She also let me gently rub her arm….She usually pulls away as she hates it. She likes firm pressure rather then soft touches. I totally took advantage of the moment. She will remain on the Keppra, Felbamate, Primadone, and VNS daily, and the valium as needed for seizures. I did notice however that her appetite has decreased. Not sure if this is a direct result of the decrease in Lamictal or not but the Nurses and myself are keeping a close watch on it. Aleia is already skinny enough! She also got new Orthodics made for her by the Gillette Childrens Hospital. She totally outgrew her other ones. Her legs are getting soooo long. She is going to be tall like her Mommy! At the same time they “grew” her wheelchair. Amazing, I think she grew at least 2 inches this past year. Getting to be such a young little lady!

I want to ask for Prayers for Aleia’s 3rd grade Teacher Mr. Rosener. He got really sick in school about a month ago and ended up taking himself to the Emergency Room. From there they transferred him to Rochester. He had undiagnosed diabetes and is now very sick in the hospital. He will hopefully be coming home within a few weeks but only because they can continue the dialysis in Fairmont. Please pray that he recovers quickly and that Yahweh places a healing hand on him. He is an AWESOME amazing Teacher that actually pays a lot of attention to Aleia, I want him back in the school. Speaking of which, Aleia is getting much better care at her new school this year. They actually acknowledge the fact that she is there. The kids take turns taking her into the Library and reading to her. They then will take a computer test for her, and she gets reading points for it. The Nurse tells me the kids fight over who’s turn it is to read to her. I LOVE IT!

I hope each of you has a wonderful and safe THANKSGIVING! Sending our love to you all.
