Welcome to Kyle's website. Here is where you will read about HOPE for your childs diagnosis of cancer. February 2018 - We will celebrate 15 years since his diagnosis of childhood cancer.

This website has been a wonderful source of comfort to us during Kyle's fight against Stage III Favorable Wilm's Tumor. We maintain the site so other newly diagnosis families have hope in their own journey. If you are a Wilm's family WELCOME. Know that even though things are very scarey right now everything will be alright. Take it one day at a time and put your faith in the Lord. He has given the medical community so much knowledge to fight this cancer. Our Kyle was diagnosed 2/03 and was over treatment 10/03. Since then he has had clear scans and doing great. For further details of Kyle's diagnosis and treatment past journal entries have been saved for your reading.

Today is the 15th anniversary of Kyle's diagnosis. I realized about an hour ago and couldn't let the day pass without an update. I haven't updated since Kyle was in high school! A lot has happened since the last update.....sports, girlfriends, first job, high school graduation and college. All the normal things that a youth goes through. The teen years were pretty easy...Kyle had a lead foot and he had his share of speeding tickets but otherwise he was a good kid.

Right now, Kyle is 21 years old and he lives at home while completing his final semester toward an Associates in Law Enforcement. He wants to go onto get his Bachelors but is undecided with what that will be. He is thinking that he will apply at the county for a dispatch or jail position for now. Then in a year or two start the police academy. Who knows maybe he will have his four year degree by then. Kyle is a very kindhearted person and sometimes it's hard for me to imagine him in law enforcement but then again, I believe he has the right temperament for the job. He's pretty level headed. He works part time while attending school and is in the fishing department at Cabela's. He loves it because he loves fishing....and he goes as often as he can. We have to remind him to not spend his entire paycheck at his work.

Kyle has continued to volunteer as a companion at Camp Quality. He loves the kids and looks forward to the two camps each summer. He has had the same boy, Marco for the last three summers. He's a great kid. Kyle has maintained his contact with his past companions, the last one Mike and him see one another a few times a year. Camp Quality was such a blessing and something good that came out of the diagnosis.

Kyle joined a friends Relay for Life team this year. He's gone to the survivor ceremony each year but it's been at least seven years since he has done any fundraising. It's been cool watching him plan his fundraising and talk about different activities for the event. Relay was another positive thing that came out of his diagnosis, we've been able to show our kids how to do for others and we made so many great relay memories with "Cruisin with Kyle".

Fifteen years out and Kyle is doing well health wise. Our hospital system doesn't have a long term follow up clinic so we're not sure if he will continue to follow up with his pediatric oncologist or not. I'm not going to lie...mama has had growing pains in regards to letting him be responsible for his own health needs but it feels like it's time. I recently forwarded him his health history and all his doctor's phone numbers. It will be up to him to follow up and make healthy choices. Kyle said he really doesn't have much of memory of his treatment. He recalls a couple key moments in the hospital post surgery but that's really it. To him he's just a normal guy.

I told him Happy Anniversary when I got home tonight. He gave me a hug and thanked me for the reminder because he's wanted to get a tattoo celebrating his survivorship and 15 years sounds like a good time to do it. Yep.....this is one of those times I should have kept quiet.

Until next time. God is good!
