Gabriella Hope Gallegos

December 2013 Gabriella is 13 years old!!

December 2013 Gabriella is 10 years NED!!

To God be the glory!!!

Welcome to Gabriella's Web Page.
It has been provided to keep family and friends updated about her journey to complete healing through the awesome power of God!

Gabriella was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma on July 1, 2003 at the age of 2 years 7 months. (She will turn 7 years old on Dec. 9th). The main tumor was found behind the left kidney on the adrenal gland, another tumor was found in the top part of her chest and another behind her left eye, the cancer was also found throughout her bones and marrow. Gabriella has completed 6 rounds of med-high dose chemotherapy, many bone marrow aspirations, EKGs, echos, MIBG scans, hearing tests, 2 GFR (renal function), many cat-scans, bone scans, surgery to place a triple lumen broviac, removal of broviac due to infection, surgical placement of double lumen vaxcel, stem cell harvest August 2003, surgery on 11-05-03 to remove any residual tumor, platelet transfusions, blood transfusions and an autologous bone marrow transplant on December 23, 2003, radiation (12 days with NO anesthesia!!!) and has completed 6 rounds of cis-retinoic acid, accutane, an oral chemo. Gigi Girl started her first round of 3F8 anitbody treatment with GM-CSF at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City 3-22-04 and is currently HAMA positive after that first round.

Gabriella has faced all this with a fight and a determination to be a little girl! God has big and powerful plans for Gabriella, more than we can ask, think or imagine!!!

The scans prior to her Transplant (stem-cell rescue) showed No Evidence of Disease. Gabriella is N-E-D and will prayerfully stay that way!!!!!!

Jesus You are Our Savior, Lord, Deliverer, King, Strength and Our Great Physician! I thank you first for being the Rock on which we stand!!!!!!

Family and Friends- you guys are the best! Prayer Warriors we couldn't do this with out you! Thank you for taking time to read the updates, thank you more for praying and also for signing the guestbook. It brings comfort and encouragement at just the right time. May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you, be gracious to you and give you peace!

December 2006- Dr. Hutchinson informs us he sees no reason to schedule any future scans at this time!!!! We inquired about once a year for the rest of her life scans and he said typically that is the case but Gabriella's story is quite the different one!!!! THANK YOU JESUS! She will do once a year clinic visit and blood work, no more IV's, no more CT's, no more MIBG's, no more Bone Scans!!! Praise the Lord!

Summer of 2012 Gabriella transferred back to Royal Oak Beaumont. She is a patient in their Late Effects After-Care Clinic. Once a year she gets a blood draw, urine test, and is visited by many different professionals in the medical field ie: dietician, social worker, oncologist, etc. Seeing the doctors and nurses that were with us when this all began a decade ago is a highlight of our visit. God is good!

Preparing for our Gigi Girl's 13th birthday celebration (December 9th). December just so happens to mark her 10th year of NED! I am working on having this blog turned into a book. Hopefully it will be done by her birthday. I always wondered about when I would give this to her to read. Initially I thought when she turned 18. But I reconsidered when I heard someone ask her recently about the story. She was so young....it is mostly my story and Steve's story. But it is what God has brought her through, too. This will be an intricate piece of her testimony that God is lovingly weaving together. The time is now here for her to gather more perspective and read for herself the miracle work God has done in her and through her. This perspective will hopefully by God's grace launch her deeper into her own personal walk with The Lord. The best is yet to come!

Family update : Thank you for being with us in this journey. Thank you for praying! Thank you for being patient with long lapses on updates. Gabriella will be 13 in a few weeks, Isaiah is 10, Christina is 8, and Liliana is a week away from turning 5. Steve and I have been married for 14 1/2 years. We are in our 4th year of homeschooling. My dad, Dominic Frank Zottolo, passed away on October 28, 2011 at the age of 60. Grief is such a unique and strange emotion. It sneaks up on me and threatens to paralyze. So I recount God's faithfulness and I remember His goodness. My mom, Mary M. Berckley, has been walking faithfully with our Lord Jesus as her Savior and King for over 5 years now and was baptized in the summer of 2008! Gabriella is now 10 years free from neuroblastoma! This year marks 20 years of knowing Jesus as my Lord and Savior! God is good all the time :)

Last summer Gabriella transferred back to Royal Oak Beaumont to their After-Care or Late-Effects office. Once a year she gets a blood draw and urine check and sees an entire team of people in the medical profession including a dietician, social worker, and oncologist. This is a special trip for Steve and I because we get to see the doctors and nurses who were with us a decade ago when this all began. We get to bring hope as we enter Rose Cancer Center to get Gabriella's blood drawn in the pediatric office. We share warm smiles with the staff and shed heart-felt tears. It is an altar of remembrance reflecting on God's goodness, remembering what He has brought our family through, and filling us with hope for what the future holds. Our God is faithful no matter what.

It is here at this Altar of Remembrance that we are prompted to pray. We pray for the families who have lost their precious babies in the battle. We pray for the families who are in the midst of the battle. We pray for the nurses and doctors who daily jump into the battle as reinforcement and encouragement. We pray and ask God to show us what else we can do? Thank you Lord for your love and healing and mercy and grace!

Love,
Angie xo
