Cody Matthew Rye

On July 28 1998 our son, Cody Matthew Rye, was injured in a car accident. As a result of this accident Cody sustained an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury at the L-4 and L-5 level. Cody was transported via helicopter to Duluth Hospital from Ironwood. He stayed in the hospital until August 15, 1998 and then was transferred to the rehab unit at Miller Dwan, Duluth MN.
Cody was finally able to come home October 16!!!!

Because Cody had an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury, he had many hours of long
and intensive therapy sessions to get him to the point of being able to walk with
the use of hand crutches. Cody has regained the feeling in his legs, but he still
has no feeling or movement from his ankles to his toes.

Cody is an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and he loves Dale Earnhardt Jr.
He is such a fan that he has his room completely done in JR paraphernalia.
He hopes to be able to go to Daytona one day.

This webpage is to keep everyone informed about Cody's progress.

Hello Everyone! Its time for another update on how Cody is doing. He has been doing really well. He just had a check-up with Dr. Gordon along with X-rays on his back and both hips. His back is doing really well. The Dr.thought with fusing him in the back that maybe his front would have to be done when he was about 12 years of age, but everything looks really well. That was really exciting news for us. As all of you know Cody has been through enough the past 6 years. One of his hips was out, but Dr. Gordon put it back in. Cody has had this problem for awhile now but he has no pain with it. So Dr. Gordon had talked to a few doctors and they said just to leave Cody the way he his because he would go through surgery again with his hips and end up with the same problem in a few years after surgery.

Cody was also fitted for new AFO'S. Codys AFO'S now are alittle below his knee, but his new ones will be all the way up his leg. It is going to take sometime getting used of them, but were hoping he will have better balance and stand up straighter than he has been. I have no idea what kind of stocking he will be wearing with his new braces. If anyone has an idea please let me know. Thanks!!! Cody will be getting his new braces on the 5th of March. So I will let everyone know how he is doing with them. Also, Cody has a Birthday coming up the 7th of March. He will be 11 years old!!!!!!

Thanks again everyone for taking the time for reading Codys web site and writing him messages. He really enjoys reading his messages.
