Malchi is getting better he has not bleed in 2 days. PRAISE GOD!!!!!! They are still not sure why he bleed. The doctors said it might be coming fromm deep in his lungs but they are not sure. His body is building different collateral vessels ( veins to make up for what he is missing in his heart.)To redirect his blood . And they are bursting. but this all speculation..
Malachi is in good spirits he is laughing and smiling he just loves all his nurses. they are really good to him.
The child life department let me use lap top so I wont be bored. I think I am gonna save so I can get mt own.
Please keep on checking this page for updates

Malachi I recovering his heart rate has come down and he is not on alot of oxygen. He is more playful and not like a zombie his body is handling his increase of medications well.he still has his times when he drops his oxygen level
Monday or tuesday he is getting AN MRI of his heart so they can get a better look at heart. If it looks abnomal for malachi they will probaly stop the chemo. I am hoping to be home for his birthdat may 15.But I am not rushing anything.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 12:02 AM CDT

Today has been a test on my faith. But I will never let any negitive thougts enter my head, Only positive.
Today they ssaid again they dont know why his heart has gotten weaker. It could be from the CHEMO or it could be the progression of his illness. They said they just dont know why his heart is failing they can just theorize.
So they are gonna do some test He might be getting an MRI.
All his doctors are gonna discuss what the next step is in MALACHI'S care. They said the chemo might be making his heart weak so they are considering stopping it.But they are afraid he will bleed. But They are still stump on why he was bleeding to begin with.
So I will be in Baltimore Maryland with MALACHI fighting for his life. I am staying at the RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE the staff ther is like family to me Miss MARIANNE is like my mom(The director)And Miss Lisa is like my big sister(house manager) They are always there willing to lend an ear when I need one.

SO PLEASE CONTINUE PRAYING FOR MALACHI BECUASE GOD HAS THE LAST WORD I HAVE FAITH HE WILL BRING MY MALACHI THROUGH EVERYTHING OK. MALACHI IS A WARRIOR AND WILL PROVE HE WILL ALWAYS COME OUT ON TOP

LOVE ALWAYS

They did a sonogram of his heart and said the function of his heart is not as good as it use to be. So they are going to start lasix ( a medicine to help pull water of his body and another to help his heart function). Malachi is being so brave. He does not even cry when he gets needles. I am the one crying he just laughs at me as jusst to say Mommy you know I am gonna be ok.

Sunday, January 20, 2008 8:38 AM CST

It has been one heck of a week for Malachi.Monday he started the bleeding from his trach, for about 2 days they took him off the ventillator he stoped bleeding until last night they had to put him back on the ventillator for positve pressure. Malachi started having sezuires again on wendsday that was the first time in almost 3 years he had any seizures back to back. The neurologist did an EEG to check his brain waves and showed minor blips so they uped his sezuire meds from 2.5 mlto 4.ml that was a big jump. When I told them he needed an EEG they said it was not nessacary but I persisted and they did one. Doctors need to listen to us parents more dont no one knows a child like there mom.
Malachi still has personality. He likes to pull the vent off just the nurse willl come in and then he laughs. He is smiling at every woman that comes in. He loves THE SONG (THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE ) so we have been singing that alot. And we have been singing some of the songs from his circle time at School.

I cried when they were explain it becuase REALITY HIT ME MY BABY IS GETTING CHEMO and I have to stick him. My oldest daughter was with me she looked at me and said"Mommy just put your big girl panties on and deal with it, you can do it." So one of the nurses let me practice on her with saline, then I gave Malachi the shot, It was not as bad as I thought. He Will have to get blood drwan once a week to check his white counts. And all of this will push back his heart surgery and getting his TRACH out.He has to have no bleeding for 6 months before they consider taking out his trach. So please keep on PRAYING for us.

Malachi has had one heck of a weekend. He started to bleed again worse than what he did when we came in on july 5. So are bak in the PICU we were only on the "floor" for maybe 2 days. He has given everybody a scare. He turned purlple and had a modled look about him. So I had to sleep at the hospital becuase he gets upset and crieswhen he is bleeding and that will cause him to bleed more. Tje doctors are done fonded at malachi they are continueing with the chemo . We need some serious prayers If he does not stop the bleeding it can potentially take my baby boys life. I have faith that God has brought him this far and will continue to perform healing and miracles on him. so PLEASE TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT MALACHI WE NEED ALL THE PRAYERS WE CAN GET.

KEEP PRAYING

Thursday, August 9, 2007 7:44 AM CDT

Malachi bleed yesterday. It was the first time in 5 days. it was not alot but enough to fill abot 6 tea spoons. He is going longer periods of time without bleeding so that is progress. He was laughing when he bleed I guess he thought it was funny when I got upset. I guess it was his way of letting me know everything is gonna be alright.\
We might have to go to rehab becuase my nursing agency droppped us becuase we were in the hospital a long time.
I wanted a new nursing agency anyway. Maxuim healthcare was not a good agency. nurses would fall asleep not show up or even drop food and drink on malachi's floor annd not clean it up.
So this new nursing agency should be better.
Keep on praying

This weekend had been very uneventful for Malachi. Which is a good thing. He has been without bleeding for 3 days. He is making some good progress. Malachi is still getting his chemo shots every night. And he is such a brave warrior he does not even cry. He got to wear his clothes yesterday for the first time since july 5. And he wore his feet braces and sneakers. He practiced standing up not as long as he used to but with time he will get better. Malachi might go home on his chemo shots the Doctors said I would have to learn how to give him the shots. I am a little scared about that. But I will put my big girl panties on and get over it. I will do what ever it takes to get him better. Malachi is starting to loose some of his hair I noticed some on his bed today but her still is the cutest thing that JHH PICU ever seen.
I read the baltimore Sun this saturday and read a story that broke my heart. There is a man by the name of ZACHARY SOWERS that was beatin up by 4 complete strangers on his way home from a night out. He was beatin so bad he is in a coma. Please pray for his total recovery and to give his wife Anna the strength she needs. there is a web site you can go on to check his progress it is
www.zachsowers.com
PLEASE PRAY FOR THIS FAMILY
Please continue to pray for malachi and all the sick children of the world. Going through what I have been through these past 3 years has been an eye opening experiance it made me relize the power of prayer it is so powerful. When doctors say it cant be it will be becuase GOD can make it happen.
And no matter were you come from the color of your skin or even your religous beliefs. We all have something in common The love for our families and the yurning to keep them safe and happy.
ALWAYS KEEP ON PRAYING

Thursday, August 2, 2007 0:10 AM CDT

Malachi did not have a good start for the month. He started bleeding again. It was an entire 48 hours of no bleeding then came the blood 9am august1. I was so disapointed. I took some of his clothes to the hospital but he could not wear them. Becuase they would get all ruined from the blood.
But the doctors say he is having progress. he is going longer between bleeds.
We need some serious prayers, for the bleeding to stop, and for GOD to give me strength to make it through all this with my sanity.
KEEP UP THE PRAYERS GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS

Malachi has been doing well. He is on oxygen but not alot.Malachi is still on the interferon alpha 2b and it seems to be helping. His bleeds are becoming mor and more infrequent. Yesterday he got his pic line they had to take him to the operating room for that. His heart surgeon DR.Duke Cameron had to cut into the vessel to get a line. With this type of line he does not have to be stuck for blood, they can draw it right off the line.ANd if they need to give him blood they can, they even can give him medicine.
I am still staying at the RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE in baltimore, maryland. It is real nice here. the staff is real friendly.
KEEP UP THE PRAYERS

Please keep up the prayers. Malachi is starting to feel the adverse reactions from the interferon alpha 2b(chemo). he is sleeping alot, they had to put him on oxygen it. the oxygen has been flucuating all day from 50% to 100% at times. One of the side affects is flu syptums and thats what he is experienceing. His eyes are slightly blood shot. And all he wants to do is to lay on my chest.Malachi loves it when I sing to him. He loves the song your beautiful by james blunt and the worlds greatest by R-KELLY. He has a radio the PICU let us borrow it is set to the local r&b station 92Q.HE loves R&B music. If you play country music he will cry or get agatated, and wont calm down till you turn to his R&b station. The boy knows what he likes.
Malachi being malachi he still tries to hold or touch the nurses hand when she is close enough. So that puts a smile on my face.

Malachi is doing ok. Tuesday he had some more bleeding so they put him on the ventillator to give postive pressure. Its like putting pressure on a cut when we get one. Malachi being Malachi he was laughing when all of this is going on. Then he got angry once he relized he was on the vent he absolutly hates the vent. He is doing ok on the new INTERFERON ALPHA 2B, there are some cold and flu symthoms so I just hold him to give him comfort. please keep up the prayers

thank you and GOD bless
melissa and malachi

Sunday, July 8, 2007 11:22 PM CDT

I would like to start off by thanking everyone who is praying for MALACHI. HIs father and I are very greatful. GOD has blessed me with MALACHI. I am so proud to be his mother. He has got such a tremendous will to live. And still smiles even when he is getting numerous of needles. My son is living breathing proof the power of prayer.
Today Malachi was started on a drug called INTERFERON ALPHA 2B. It is used in cancer patients.so yes he is getting a form of chemo. NO he does not cancer, but the doctors feel it may help slow down or dasinagrate the growth of collateral vessels and the himangyoma( you might have seen someone with what looks like a strawberry on there skin thats what he has on his heart)The doctors have never seen a hemangyoma on the heart before so they are hoping this works. And they are not sure if that was the cause of his bleeding. The treatment may cause him to get flu symptoms. so pray he dont.
The Doctors are calling and sending data to a vascular malformation clinic in boston to hopefully see if they have any inpute that can help in malachi's care. The hemotology dept. at jhh is also involved and suggested boston.
All of what Malachi has been through has made me relize how blessed I am and he is to be born in the great country of ours. And to live in the state of maryland. We basicly have the BEST hospitals in the world in our back yard.I have met people from around the world that have to come to this country to get medical help. GOD has truly blessed the USA.
Please to continue to pray not only for MALACHI but for all the sick children of the world.

Monday, June 18, 2007 7:18 PM CDT

Today was a frustrating day for us. they lokked with the cameras down his trachea and evvery thing looked good. But cardiology is scared to take the trach out becuase they are scared he will bleed again. so we have to wait until late August early september. Now his heart surgery is gonna be in september. This Will give him some time to heal and and get stronger. So pray everything goes well.

Wednesday, June 13, 2007 9:59 PM CDT

Malachi had his catherzation done today no complications during the cath. they said if he bleeds again they are not sure were it is coming from becuse they coiled off some more vessels. After he got back to the PICU his left leg was blue and they could not get a good pulse. but I prayed and the pulse came back. The POWER OF PRAYER is awesome. the started him on a heprin drip( a blood thinner) so if he has any clots it will help.He has a foley catherder in his worm he hates it. He was so mad when they put it in he dont like no one to mess with his private area. but he needs it so he does not pee allover the line they have in his left groin area. Malachi was supposed to get his trach out on monday the 18th now that is not going to happen.they want to wait to make sure if he bleeds again they will be able to get the blood.
This is such an humbling experiance. My other children if something is wrong with them i can kiss it and all is ok. With Malachi I have to sit back and let other people take care of my son when iam so use to doing everything. But I trust GOD is guideing them inthe right direction.

keep up the prayers

Friday, April 27, 2007 4:04 PM CDT

It has been one heck of a week.Tuesday he started bleeding from his trach at home. He bleed enough at home it could have filled a urine specimen cup up half way.So I called the ambulance and we quickly got to the hospital. on the way there he continues to bleed he bleed and it shot all over the back of the ambulance. malachi continued to bleed on the way up here he showered the back of the ambulance again. when we got to hopkins he was still bleeding but more. so the ENT doctor looked down his trach and could not find any source of bleeding. so theysent us to the PICU. WERE he continued bleeding.Yesterday with each episode his heart rate would drop and he got real tired. And would not respond to nothing. So they decied to do a emergency HEART CATHERZATUION. malachi has vessels were normal hearts do not have them and they are not good veins. so they put coils in 30 different veins and has not had a signifagant amout bleeding since. So now they know why he was bleeding.they said one or more of the vessels bursted and caused the bleeding. thank god it was not someones fault. They took a sonogram of his heart and found ot the squeeze ofthe left part of his heart was not the same. theyare not sure if it was becuase of all the bleeding so they are gonna do another sonogram in a couple of days.please pray hios heart function gets better. They say this wont set back him getting his trach out on JUNE 18TH.

But it is still a happy one.He learned how to disconect his feeding tube. His lung Doctor said when I get home To get his pediatrion to schedule a swallow study. So that means Malachi will eat by mouth soon.HE got mad today when I was eating and did not give him any.So I had to let him taste the turkey and the sweet potato pie.But Malachi loves Hershey kisses I let him lick on them.Malachi laughs at the other babies when they cry.keep up the prayers

Thank GOD they got it back in. Th doctors had to keep on putting big catherders in to dialate the hole .I had to hold his hands they put him in a little papoose so he could not move his legs. They did not numb him at all he was in so much pain.I almost cried. the nurse kept on asking was i ok I told them I've seen him in worst states then that.Malachi tried to punch the doctor.he is something else he is such a fighter.
he has discovered how to put his fingers in his mouth and how to hold on to things bettter

Thank you every body who prayed for the docs to find out what was going on.Kepp on praying

Monday, July 4, 2005 1:23 PM CDT

The doctors say they have no idea why Malachi is bleeding.I think it is becuase someone suctioned him to deeply. They put a scope down his nose and they said it is not upper air way.It might be lower then his upper air way. Please pray they figure out what is going on we get so close to going home and then something always happens. Please pray everything gets back on track and he does not have another set back.Dont forget to sign in the guest book.

Well I had a good weekend I went home to visit my other children. And I had to get the house ready for Malachi"s arrival.I Purchased a crib, some saftey gates so kysha dont get into the kitchen if i have to suction malachi. The Doctors said the only thing holding us back is nursing. So as soon as we get a nurse we are free at last to go home.Malachi is on room air on his trach. He does not need oxygen through his trach. That is such a big step for my little man.. that means we can go more places, and I won't have to lug as much equipment around.,and he can go into a regular stroller. I sat him up today and he did not fall over. That is a first for him usally he falls right over. But not today.I feel so blessed that malachi is doing so well and he does not need oxygen.Praise god he is so great and wonderful. He has truly blessed my malachi.Pray that we get a nurse FAST so we can go home.

Well Malachi had a good day. His Cardiologist said there is a chance we will be coming home in 7 to 10 days. But they have to get his Respitory system under control. He has Secretions coming from the hole of his trach and hardly from the trach it self. But they said that might change after his offical 1st trach change on tuesday.Malachi did really well with his therapy today. He grabed his dog roof roof with both hands. Malachi never did that before. He seemed more comfortable today. They are weining his methadone and he is tolerating it really well. He is so big I am going to have to buy him all new clothes.he has grown so much. He is gonna be in a 2tor a 3t. Malachi is doing good.He is going through withdraw, they have him on methadone(probably spelled wrong). They have him on 50ml were the average child is on 10ml a day. They will start to wein it after he gets his TRACH.He actually has tears when he cries. He loves his little rings he plays with them like he is a gymnist.Keep up the prayers.there is a place were you can give malachi cybere hugs. give him as many as you want.

Wednesday, June 1, 2005 10:03 PM CDT

Malachi had a eventful day. HE has his dyalisis tubing took out they did that at bedside. Then the doctors took out his breathing tube and put him on cpap it blow air to keep air way open.but ultimitly decided the best thing for Malachi was to put the breathing tube back in and schedule his Tracheosomy surgery(TRACH).he was struggling to breath so his trachea still needs some more time to heal. The surgery should be done by the first part of next week.It was a little disapointing but every thing will be ok. Just keep up the prayers

Wednesday, June 1, 2005 7:39 AM CDT

Well Tuesday the Doctor that does the Tracheostomy said he could not do the Trach becuase Malachi is on asprin and might bleed. so they stopped asprin for 7 days. BUt in the mean while today the PICU docs are going to take the breathing tube out and see how he does. If does fine he wont need a Trach if not they will just but the breathing tube back in and Malachi will get his Trach in a week. They have not took his Dialysis tube out yet they are waiting to see if he needs his trach so they can do it all in one trip.In other words they are scared to put Malachi under Anedthisia more than what they have to.Either way Malachi will be fine I put it in GODS hands I trust in him he knows whats right for my litte man.

Saturday, May 28, 2005 3:59 PM CDT

Malachi continues to do well. sometime next week they are going to try and take his breathing tube out and see how he does then if he does well he might not need his trach back.Which would be so wonderful for Malachi. Then he can work on talking and making sounds, rolling over nd he probably will be able to sit up bettter.

Friday, May 27, 2005 11:23 PM CDT

Malachi had another good day.He got his chest tube took out.His color has improved and his Oxygen in his blood is starting to come up.Sometime next week they will decide weather to put his trach back in or not.He has to sleep with his hat on over his eyes,And his music on.Dont forget to sign in the guest book.

Wednesday, May 25, 2005 10:08 PM CDT

He is continuing to do well. The nurse was mistaken about his breast bone being open. His surgeon said he closed it during surgery.Which is a good thing means his heart didn't swell as much as it could have.So again Malachi did his "MALACHI THING"like his doctors like to call it. He surprised every one once again.Later on in the future he might have to get a angioplasty(Probably spelled wrong)to open up one of his arteries becuase of scaring but that is nothing he will be just fine.Once again MY LITTLE MAN has proven he is truly one of GODS MIRACLES here on earth.

Malachi did well today. His surgery went well. They had to staple his chest closed becuase they left his breast bone open becuase of swelling but will go back in and close it up in about 24 to 48 hours. He looks so good he was not pale at all he had good color and even opened his eyes when they wheeled him out of the OR.GOD once again had Malachi in his protective arms.God is great. Thanks for all the prayers keep them up my malachi is living breathing proof prayer works., Check out the new photos there are some from his birthday on there

Malachi had a good birthday.I dressed him and he got presents from some of the medical staff at johns hopkins.I took lots of pictures so look for them shortly on this web page. They let me put a little bit of Icining in his mouth. He loved it,I even put icining on his nose and he wore a birthday crown.Malachi loves to watch TV he got so mad today when I got in front of him he was squirming, until I got from in front of him.Him and his DADwatched basketball on tv together. He loves basketball.Hey you never know he could be the next Koby Bryant.Malchi has to have his own room because he has VRE It means he is vankamicin (an antibiotic and i know probably spelled wrong)resistint. He has had that type of Antibotic so much he is immune to it now. That is one of the most strongest antibiotic they can give him. They Said eventually he can have it again.

Malachi had a good day.The doctors told me my little man has a bacteria in his blood and a yeast infection on his penis. the yeast infecton comes from the catheder being in so long. The bacteria comes from his Groin line being in so long and getting pee and poop on it.So they are treating it with antibiotics.Maybe next week he will get his GLEN.He looks good he is not loosing any weight. he loves it wheni sing to him.And it is so hard to believe he will be 1 on sunday. This past year has gone by so fast.Between me being hospitalized when I was pregnant with Malachi becuase of fluid in the sack being low to him being hospitalized I have been at JOHNS HOPKINS HOSPITAL an entire year.I think I need a tropical vacation.Maybe one day.But right now Iam exactly were I need to be.With my little man Malachi.Oh ya Malachi likes to be called MALACHI THAT SEXY GUY.

Today was a rough day. At about 2:45pm malachi started bleeding from his breathing tube then he could not breath and he arrested for what the docs tell me less than 10 minutes. They did a sonogram of his heart and his function is were it was before the surgery. He even when they were giving him meds tried to slap them them away, and was getting mad and crying. If anyone tells miracle dont happen look at Malachi Cuz God is Great.MAybe next week they will go backin and do his bidirectional glen if his kidneys start working a little better. the Kidney docs say they are only 50% working so they resarted his diyalasis today. So please pray that his kidneys get working and the rest of his surgeries go smoothly
