Jason Matthew Stuart

4">
~Mom's awesome 13 year old!!~

Welcome to Jason's Web Page. Jason is a strong & brave little soldier who was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) on May 9th, 2003 at age 3 years, 4 months. We wanted to share his story with famlily, friends and anyone who is interested.

IN THE BEGINNING.....Jason Matthew Stuart was born on January 18th, 2000, weighing 9.0 lbs with a head full of black curly hair.We brought him home in a snow storm wearing little navy blue snow boots! He is full of energy and always on the go! He has a awesome, COOL brother, James 16, and an wonderful, caring, sister Megan,13 years old

HOW WE FOUND OUT~ He was sick for 2 weeks with toncilitis and 2 given antibiotics, After a week of not getting any better, just laying around, weak and not eating or drinking I took him back to his doctor. He started having stomache pain on the way to the doctor. Once there his DR. did a quick check and sent us to the Local ER. At the ER I told my story over and over. Jason was gragging his belly and crying out in pain. He was just laying there looking so sick. They drew blood (twice)and gave him IV fluid. After a couple hours (he slept) he perked up and was talking and looking better! Then the doctor came in with news that it was "malignancy in the blood" I knew that was Leukemia. We were in total denial and it was all sorta of fog after that.

ONCE AT JOHN"S HOPKINS ER~ Jason was feeling much better so much so that he was running a monster truck up and down the stretcher! We were greeted by a whole team of wonderful doctors, one in particular, who will always hold a special place in my heart,(Dr. V) for he was so calm, comforting, and reassuring that our precious little baby was going to be OK and he eased all our fears. From that point on, I felt (and continue to feel) that we were at the best place we could be. The diagnosis of Luekemia was confirmed, Type ALL (Acute Lympocytic Leukemia) We were told he was going to have to have a "infusaport" surgically placed in his chest.(It is a permenant line attatched to a blood vessel in which he gets all his blood drawn through and all his IV's and Chemo through.)He was admitted to John's Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Floor 8th floor that night. We also were told his blood count was only 1/3 what it was suppose to be. (I later learned the leukemia cells has pushed a lot of the red cells and platelets out of the blood)On Monday May 12, 2003 he went to the OR for a Bone Marrow, Spinal Tap and a port Placed for him to get chemo through. We spent the first 12 days of the 29 day Induction phase in the hopital. He was given 3 units of blood to get his counts up to an "OK" level and later in the week he had to have platelets. His energy level never gave up, even as sick as he was all we did was play the entire time we were there. Even the doctors were amazed at his engery level!

ALL ABOUT OUR TREATMENTS~ We go to John's Hopkins Children's Oncology Outpatient center (8th floor) for his treatment. I truly love his Medical team and couldn't ask for any better. His total treatment course will be 130 weeks! On November 28, 2005 Jason FINISHED all Chemotherapy, 2 months before his 6th birthday! His port a cath was removed April 11, 2006! Jason's leukemia was put in remmission 28 days afte diagnosis! He was on course POG 9905, standard risk. Now we are down to monthly visits at Johns Hopkins!

~ Treatments are ALL DONE....9 months off Chemo WOO HOO~

She is all about style and fashion and always looks her best. She is a beautiful little lady inside and out. We have had a very difficult years since Jason's diagnosis: Jason's cancer, my mothers death, break-up of my family, new job and moving twice and becoming a single MOM. However, we have all made it through and are working on a wonderful future.... I love my family...

~"If God brings you to it, He'll bring you through it"~

A FINAL NOTE~ Jason is such a sweet boy! As his Aunt Joanne says~ I wish we could bottle his love up and spread it all around. He smiles and laughs a lot and is a very happy boy despite all he has to go through! His smile makes my heart light up. He keeps our spirits up and makes this whole Leukemia thing easier to handle. We am truely thankful he is doing so well and We pray for God to watch over him, and keep him strong to fight this leukemia. I tell Jason he's my "Li'l Angel from heaven." And he is....

Cancer Kids

The Littlest Soldiers
The medals on our chests
Are portacaths for meds
Helmets won't stay on
Cause no hair is on our heads.

Our weapons of destruction
We take every day
We fight the battle within us
While we struggle on to play.

We fight with honor and courage
No marine could do as well
We are only little children
Living in this hell.

So bring on the medals
The Purple Hearts of Wars
The Gold Cross, The Silver Star
To place upon our scars.

For We are the Children of Cancer
No one has fought so hard
But every day we struggle on
Our LIFE is our reward.
