Hey, Chris. Happy re-birthday! You have been through more than any person should ever have to go through in the past seven years. I don’t think you’ll ever realize how much you’ve inspired everyone around you. You’ve shown us what strength really is and you’ve made all of us realize what’s really important in life and that we shouldn’t take any minute for granted. You are loved by many – and we are at the top of the list!!

Dear Chris: HAPPY FIVE YEAR RE-BIRTHDAY TO YOU ......... Congratulations on beating the Beast. Your journey has had its ups and downs, twists and turns, but each step of the way God has carried you. The Love of family and friends has been there with you every second of every day. I think of you and keep you in my prayers daily. I just wanted to write this to say hello and I am so proud of the young man you are becoming. I remember with fondness the weekend your family came to my Cancer Retreat, Sunrise At Fantasy Valley, and how happy you all were. I fell in love with you then ... and there.... :)
You keep up the good fight. All Praise and Glory goes to GOD for directing the Physicians Hands and for your loving sister, Sam. What unconditional love she has for you. Enjoy each and every second of each day sweetie. You have proven there is life after the diagnosis of Leukemia.
There's nothing to it BUT to do it. Believe in Miracles and SOAR... Love and God's Blessings always, Jan (Sunrise)

Hey Christopher!

I hope that last softball game went well.

Your Halloween costume made me think of an old TV commercial where a bunch of kids are marching and singing "I wish I were an Oscar Meier wiener - that is what I'd really like to be. For if I were an Oscar Meier wiener, everyone would be in love with me." Well, one kid had to be different and marched by himself singing "I'm glad I'm not an Oscar Meier wiener - that is what I'd never want to be. For if I were and Oscar Meier wiener, there would soon me nothing left of me." The other kids surrounded him and glared threateningly, so he joined them singing their version.

If you go as a bottle of household cleaning solution next year, I can tell you a funny anecdote about the "It's so easy when you use Lestoil" commercials.

HELP ST. JUDE BY CREATING A PEPPER AT CHILI'S TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER!!!!

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Chili’s Grill & Bar® announced the kick-off of their fifth annual Create-A-Pepper to Fight Childhood Cancer campaign. Now through September 30, Chili’s restaurants around the country and, for the first time, in Puerto Rico, are marking National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by inviting people to get creative and raise funds to help St. Jude find cures and save children with cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
Guests at participating Chili’s restaurants can contribute to St. Jude in multiple ways:

- Make a donation to St. Jude and receive a Create-A-Pepper chili pepper coloring sheet designed for display at restaurants during the month.

- Purchase Create-A-Pepper T-shirts that can be customized with permanent marker.

- Buy a customized Create-A-Pepper key that can be cut for use at home or the office.

- Eat at Chili’s on Monday, Sept. 29, when Chili’s will donate 100 percent of profits from participating restaurant sales to St. Jude.

Visit www.createapepper.com and to make an online donation.

I pray all continues to go well for you and your family!

I am at a loss for words. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Breuer family. Tim, loving husband to Susie and wonderful father to Mitchell, Logan, Bryce, Joel and Ethan passed away suddenly yesterday at only 37 years old. Very little is known right now but please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. This family has already suffered more pain and loss than most people will have in a lifetime, and yet they show more strength and love for each other and Faith in God, that they inspire everyone they know.

I believe Gods arms will be around them all and Bryce's arms are around Tim holding and comforting him. Then he will take him hand in hand around Heaven.
Lots of CB ((((Hugs)))) and ++++Prayers++++ to you and your family!

Hi guys! What a wonderful accomplishment for all of you, especially Dave getting on a bike again. Congratulations! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It's always been my favorite day to look back and reflect on all our blessings. Your entry was well put Darlene. Megan hit 5 years post Dx on 11/20, the day of your entry. She's moved on so beautifully it makes going in for her follow up clinic visits such a downer. I wish all of you a wonderful holiday season filled with the many blessings you deserve! Sue G.

I sure "get" what you mean!!! It doesn't take much to make us mom's a bumbling mess. Josh had his meet the teacher day Thursday and all they could keep telling me was how sweet and precious he is. I don't think that they realize that I am more than aware of that. lol. I had to keep changing the topic just to stop myself from getting choked up. I had to blame my teary eyes on "getting over a cold". Well, it's kind of true =0) Glad that everyone in your household is adjusting to a new normal.

I am not sure how I found your site. I think that I have posted on here before...a long time ago. My son's name is Micah. He battled a rare and aggressive lymphoma, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, since June of 2003. He suffered five relapses, two of whice were in the central nervous system and on August 17, 2006 he received a stem cell transplant. I think that it is awesome that our son's share the same transplant date. Your site has been so encouraging to me. I havn't visited here in a long time and I just needed to see that life does indeed progress on "normally" for some. Micah is doing great, but we don't see many that continue getting stronger. I am glad that we can look here and see that we don't stand alone. God is awesome!

You traveled some difficult roads in the last three years, but I know it was an investment that pays off with every smile. The two years that Mamie was being treated were so precious to me because we spent so much time together that the hustle and bustle of "normal" lives might have stolen from us. It also showed me how blessed I had been to have her the previous (nearly) five years.

I have enough memories to hold me till I can be with her again forever.

I just stopped in to say hi and see how everyone is doing. 3 years is a long time, yet when it comes to all those raw emotions, it really isn't such a long time. It's so good to read that Chritopher is doing well.

I have to smile whenever I see those pictures of Sonic - my boys (who were stuck at home from all those flooded NJ roadways) were actually having a blast playing Sonic video games today.

All the best!

Oh, Darlene, I get a gut-wrenching feeling just thinking about opening up that email you sent after Christopher relapsed . . . I'm so, so happy that he is doing so well this far out of transplant. Can't wait to see you and Beth on Thursday.

Love you guys,

Darlene,

I too clearly remember your heartbreaking news of Chris' relapse, just after the White House Easter egg roll. Congratulations on the 3 year anniversary (only a cancer parent celebrates these things the way I do - each and every day with our kids truly is a gift and I look at each of those 3 years as a gift). May Chris stay cancer-free for 100 more years!

I know what you mean about school work - it's definitely a different perspective we have over the overachievers these days! ;o)

I can hardly believe it's been 3 years since Christopher relapsed. I remember so vividly reading the news, after just seeing photos of the egg roll where everyone looked so healthy!! I would never have imagined we'd be following in your footsteps 2 years later...

It makes my heart soar to see how well Christopher is doing today - I truly hope that we'll be once again following in your footsteps when Hunter beats this beast once and for all!

Hello,
Happy Easter!
LaKota is doing really good, and I am doing good after my surgery. Steve's job does not look too good at this point, they told him to look for another job, because they are not for sure when they will be calling anybody back to work, it is so scary, and depressing, scary how the economy is, and scary about the health insurance.
Your always in our prayers.
Love LaKota, and her mom Debbie.

Hello! It's Delton. You sent me a message on my CaringBridge web-site. Yes, I would like to thank you for that. I really appreciate it. Besides that, happy re-birthday! I read a liitle about you from the top of the page. I must have been really hard getting all those shots. And you were diagonosed in 02! Wow! . I'm gonna set up a due date, which is sometime in April, and I'm gonna tell my heart that sometime in April, I'm not gonna have leukemia anymore. So I would like you to believe that too. Thank you.

We are entering the hospital tomorrow to begin an unrelated but perfectly matched stem cell transplant. The transplant will actuall take place on August 17th. Thank you for your writings. Hello Melkonian Family,
Christopher, you certainly have a way with words and such a credible and inspiring story to share. The ring of faith is strong and we found that out today when my daughter Angela met your sister Missy. They thought they may have just shared the experience of a broken bone, but as with many strangers, we found out that they shared much more. I hope that you continue to inspire those around you and that the circle/ring of Faith grows ever larger.
Thank you so much for your inspiration, especially to our friend MacKenzie Stuck.
It was wonderful to meet your Mom and Dad and sister.
Keep working that left-hand Missy, from one fearless little girl to another - says Angela. Maybe Angela can send over her "nurse" ,little 4-year sister Erica, to care for Missy -- although Angela said jokingly, that may not be the best present as Erica's nursing skills need a little refinement.
Take care and we hope to have Faith and MacKenzie meet sometime soon. Maybe at the yard sale this Saturday!

Here's wishing you a Happy Easter. Thank you for holding up so many families who are struggling with cancer and who have lost the earthly part of the battle.

As the eggs you'll hunt Friday symbolize new life, Sunday will remind us that we can all live together again without pain or fear.

It's wonderful to hear how long you've been cancer-free. I trust and pray that it will never, ever come back.

Hi Darlene,
Thank you for already signing Bryce's page. Many times our stories can be similiar but when you are living little things to the eye of the beholder can be HUGE differences.

I don't want to burden you as I know how so very busy our lives can be. I came across Hunter while I was spreading prayer requests for Bryce. I had not been to her page in awile as things were going well. But http://www.caringbridge.org/ma/hunter is a little girl who just finished 2.2 years of treatment and found out she relapsed on the day they removed to port.

I have not had an opportunity to go very far back in the journals but her Mom mentioned they won't be trying for a BMT because of bad things she has heard about them. I myself have not done extensive research on them but had only heard good things. I don't know if you would be willing to share some of your first hand knowledge. Not everyone is open to input but myself when we started with Sierra, I was looking to everyone with experience to see what they knew so I could make my best decision for her I could. I am so happy for your family that things are going so well, and I often think of the Bond Chris will have with his sister and it truely is a miracle!

Lots of CB ((((Hugs)))) and ++++Prayers++++ to you and your family every moment of the day!

Dearest Friends, Family and Caring Bridge Support Teams.
I am sending out a request again for a wonderful family who once again has received the information that their little Bryce has relapsed. This time it is during the first 3 months of his bone marrow transplant.

Bryce’s bone marrow has 95 percent donor cells (Mitchell, Bryce’s oldest brother who is 11) and 5 percent host cells (Bryce). The 5 percent of his bone marrow that is host cells has 5-10 percent blast cells in them. The blast cells are the cancer or Leukemia cells.

So now Mitchell will give Bryce a special blood transfusion called a Donor Lymphocyte Infusion. They are hoping his blood will attack Bryce's cells and eliminate them.

On Monday Mitch & Bryce will have blood work and special tests to make sure all is well to proceed. They want to be sure Mitchell has no virus’ and his veins need to be large enough to do Aphaeresis which is when a person donates blood from one arm, it is then spun down in a special machine to get the specific blood needed to prepare for the transfusion and then, the rest of his blood is put back into him in the other arm. If his veins are not large enough, they will put a PICC line into his neck.

The cells they need to use are white blood cells and his Helper T-cells. These will be used to help for engraftment of the donor cells and rejection of the host cells. This Aphaeresis will be done on Tuesday and then on Wednesday, Bryce will be admitted to St. Mary's Hospital to receive the infusion. Bryce will then have a bone marrow biopsy 3-4 weeks after that to check for engraftment, once again.

This family really needs your prayers. Please pray for Bryce, Mitchell and for this whole wonderfully kind family. Also, if you have a few minutes to spare in this fast passed world we live in, PLEASE take some time to stop and leave an uplifting or Spiritual message in their guestbook. No one could really explain how helpful these pages are and most importantly they are only a click away the moments we NEED them the most! At Rochester they have computers in the waiting rooms on every floor. Sometimes on our most feared appointments with Sierra, I would open up her page and read her guestbook while I was waiting and it gave me strength!

Sierra and I were guests at a Cancer Seminar Saturday and they had many wonderful speakers. One of the speakers who was a counselor talked about we always want to do something or we will say “call us if you need anything” then we wonder why they don’t call. One great thing he mentioned was meals, which is always awesome because your family still needs to eat even though you just get back from appointments 2 min before someone says “I’m hungry”. But unfortunately we are not always close to where they live. Another thing he mentioned is just sitting quietly and “holding their hand”.

I consider these pages a wonderful, strengthening beautiful “hand hold or hug” that a family can “receive” when they really need it.

Lots of CB ((((Hugs)))) and ++++Prayers++++ to you and your family every moment of the day!

Dear Melkonian's,
So sorry to hear of the loss of Dave's mom. She sounded like an incredible woman and I know you will miss her greatly. May the Lord's love comfort and give you His peace in your grief.
Blessings,

What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful Nanny. She was blessed with a wonderful family whose love was and is very evident in your journal.
My mom quit going to church after my brother passed away from lymphoma but her faith never faultered. The priest said it was not uncommon.
I pray that His graces and love carry all the Melkonian's through this period of grieving, and that your memorys sustain you.
Christopher is doing so well!! Praise God.

I am so sorry to hear of your mom's (mother-in-law, Grandma) passing....What a great tribute to her. You can see that you had challenges that any Mother-in-law and Daugter-in-law had, but that you really loved and respected each other. Our prayers are with your family as you go through this difficult time!

I'm happy to hear that Chris is doing so well and that you all had a nice Christmas!! I'm sorry to hear about your family member..you're right though we do need to hug and care for the one's we love before it's too late. We went to the tree lighting ceremony and saw the Holdcraft's. We missed seeing you this year. I wanted to tell you...we visited the White House a couple of days ago and we saw a picture of you and your family as soon as you walk in on the East wing. I didn't know if you were aware of that. That's really neat!! I hope you all have a happy new year, take care, and God bless!!

We've been thinking about your friends a lot, and hope that Faith feels better soon. I really feel for them being inpatient right now, so let us know what we can do for them. Benno will be there giving platelets on Dec. 21. If they need a place to get away, Benno recommends the chapel on the third floor right by the elevators. My recommendation is much less spiritual, but the cardiac cath lab waiting room is EMPTY after 6pm, and I sometimes went there to escape. It's down the hall from radiology and to the right--there are signs.

Hope you are all well.

Darlene--Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving, with more blessings and gratitude than fears. It can be so hard on the days when the fears haunt us. And your memories of the 100 Days party remind us all that we can never know what might happen; we can never know who it is that we need worry about next. November 24th for us is exactly one year from when Fergus truly began having his leg pain and fevers...I have vivid memories of our quiet yet sweet Thanksgiving the day after our first emergency room visit. The fever was gone, but the leg pain remained, and the diagnosis of leukemia was four days away. Despite the fact that he couldn't walk, Fergus was happy. We were worried but had no idea what was coming. It was just the four of us, no extended family, and I felt so grateful for the blessings of my children and my husband. As we all do now, so much more intensely.

Thinking of you,

Lauren
