Hi Bart,

Well it's been a long, long time. Bob Colby forwarded the website to my sister, Dawne, who forwarded it to me. I am so sad to hear your situation has taken a different turn in the road. You were always a very special person to so many of us, Bart. Love and prayers to you and your family ....

Regards,
Robin

Dear Beth:

As you know, it was wonderful to see you despite the trying times. I loved Bart more than anyone can know, and to be able to spend time some time with him Monday was extremely important to me. I hope that in some small way I can continue to help you and the boys as you move forward.

Bart - what can I say? I know that you will now be watching us and guiding us from a different place, always close enough for those you've loved and who have loved you to feel your presence. Hopefully, we can approach those high standards you have set in terms of being a friend, husband, son and father. I miss you already.

Bart,

I'm glad you and Rick got to see each other. I reminded him about how you two were Dorky Bookworms as kids, I even mentioned his love of all things Star Trek! I didn't realize that you were in Needham. My wife's family live in Norwell. We are in Sunny California now, but still cheering for the Sox. I wanted to tell you that you are in my thoughts. I still laugh when I think about our time playing Hoops at WHS and listening to tunes in the locker room. I still can't sit for too long because they have not removed all the splinters from my butt!! I'm still working on my jump hook and some day I'm going to beat Ruderman in one on one! Take care my friend, Bob.

Happy Birthday Bart! We received your thank you card to Maggie - thanks. I'll always remember when Claire and I were camping in Rockport, and we stopped at Beth and your place on our way back, on your Birhtday. That night we slept on your couch, and even though there wasn't much room, after camping, it seemed like a luxury king sized bed! It was great to see your folks, Leslie, Kevin and Eric at the reunion. Thinking of you often. Love, Rick, Claire, Seth and Maggie

Dear Bart & Beth, It's been quite some time since I saw Beth back in the days of our meetings at the Wellness Community. My husband Richard was diagnosed with MM right around the same time as you Bart. Richard just turned 50 this past November and he's doing really well aside from the destruction the MM did to his spine - it's a constant battle with pain. Richard went through the auto stem cell transplant right before Bart in November of 2004. So far, so good - no sign of plasma cells. He's been so fortunate in not having to take any of those harsh medications. Richard just completed an extensive round of tests and was blessed with the great news that his MM continues to sleep. We will keep you all in our prayers. Richard's webpage is ma/richard - please visit it any time as I try to keep it updated. Hugs to you all - Happy / Healthy New Year.

Beth and Bart - thank you for the reminders about how our small actions in our routine lives can add up to what is most important. I am sorry that your travails are what helps us keep our perspective (that is, I wish it were easier to keep that perspective without being reminded of its importance by the difficulties of our friends). You are all in our thoughts often, and we hope you are enjoying the summer. Affectionately,

HI BART, I pray that you are feeling all right. I have started the prayer line going for you. I called, Angie, my granddaughter last night and asked her and her to have her congregation (in New Hampshire) to pray for you. I try to make sure I cover all bases. I have my girlfriend in Florida doing the same thing. I'm having Mass said for you next week at St. Patrick's. Leslie sent me two Livestrong bracelets. So, Please, keep your chin up and we'll do all the praying for you so that Heaven will be flooded with prayers for you like it was before. I love you very dearly. Tante Yvonne

Bart, So happy to hear that you are home & doing well. I have purchased "Live Strong" bracelets, to wear in support. And it seems that they are also a source of strength for us. My boyfriend who had non-hodgkins lymphoma 5 yrs ago, just found out that he has something else brewing inside him. His blood work came back elevated, so he will go through a seris of tests in January. I am sure it will be a long road to recovery, but we will get through it. I have you as an inspiration...Have a wonderful Christmas and a healthy happy New Year. You will always be in my prayers.

This is Maura from your Wellness group. I want to wish you both the best of luck with the stem cell transplant. My husband Richard is currently undergoing the same treatment due to his diagnosis of multiple myeloma last May. Richard (turned 49 on Nov. 13th) received his stem cells back two days ago. Let's see - this all brings many things to mind, such as:

To Pouff, or not to Pouff, that is the question

Pouff and let Pouff

Pouffy is as Pouffy does

Well, I don't want to take up too much space. Suffice it to say that it's a far cry from you holding that can during the Homecoming fundraiser (yes, kids, friends, family, it's in the yearbook). I'll leave it alone, but it reminds me more of a bouffant than a pouff (as well as two metropolitan policemen with a difference).

Bart -
Heard through the Oleynik grapevine about you being sick - this just stinks! (edited terms). But it sounds like you are getting the best of care and are surrounded by great friends and family. Good luck this week (and the upcoming weeks) with your treatment. This is when we say Thank God for Modern Medicine. There was just a front page story today in our New Haven paper about the local weatherman (Dr. Mel) organizing a cancer benefit for Multiple Myeloma - he as been cancer free for eight years! That is a good thought.
Jim said get better - he wants you to know you still have to find the "elusive electric dipstick". We will be thinking of you and Beth and the family. But lose the Red Sox shirts, would ya? Love - Caroline and Jim.

I recently heard of your illness and "strong" recovery fight. After reading the updates and messages posted from so many friends and family it's hard to find words to write. Growing up together we have too many memories to post...most shouldn't be read by everyone. Bart you and your family are in the Carters' thoughts and prayers.
How about them Bo-Sox? I'm the only Red Sox fan for at least 2,000 miles.

Hi Bart
What a great picture of you and your family. (You havent changed a bit) I work with Leona at the Hartford and I also see your Dad around sometimes. When I think of you it brings back a lot of fun memories of 'the fort' and those huge bonfires you used to build. We always had good music and beverages :) Take care of yourself and your beautiful family.

Hi Bart it was to good to see you at the 20TH, it's amazing how fast things can change. My 6 year old daughter Jillian was diagnoised last dec. with Leukemia, She will have chemo for over two years. I have learned something from this terrible disease just being around children with cancer and other devasting diseases that they are always happy even when their chips are down, they don't have pity, they stay positive, stong and brave. That is such a healing power. I wish you all the best. Jillian has a caringbridge page too...ct/jillian. we'll see you at the next reunion...30 YEARS...YIKES....LIVE STRONG BART.,Maureen (Cronan)

Hey Bart,
It can't possibly be 20+ years since we were all sitting around a fire at the "fort" listening to wplr. It goes quickly doesn't it? I was sorry to hear about your trouble, but if the Red Sox finally beat the odds you will too. You are in my prayers for a strong recovery.

Hi Bart and Beth and your beautiful boys,
Words cannot express my admiration for all of you.
To Beth, I met you at the 20th reunion and you made such an impression on me. (I'm the one with the 6 kids, who kept going til I got a girl) I remember thinking, Bart is so lucky, because his wife seems to be his best friend. You are the type of person that made me feel as if you were our classmate also, not a classmate's wife. As I read your journal I thought, I am so glad Bart has her to be by his side.
To the boys : you guys are so cute in your Red Sox gear. Go Sox! I think they won just for you guys! Always remember, you are the light of your Mom and Dad's life. I can tell just by the picture.
To Bart: I wish you every good thing under the sun. You are a wonderful classmate and friend. We are having a retirement party here at the Hartford for your dad shortly. I will miss his presence here. Whenever I saw him, I always asked how you guys were doing, but I haven't seen him in the last few months, so I had no idea what you were facing. But from the journal,I can see that you guys will conquer all of this. My prayers will be with you all, every single day. God's blessings to you, Lee

Hey Bart:
Charlie Messina here. Thought I drop you a line and let you know that you really need to stop being such a slacker. I got a note from Bob Swift, and said you where being a really big baby. Get up man. You have to supply the cigars at the next class reunion. And, I’m looking for my next ex-wife, so I’m sure I’ll need some of your legal advice. You know, like “Don’t get married again.” My advice to you is “Live Strong and get old Bart.” Because, that is the best way to get back at the ones you love, lol. Buddy, I have nothing but good thoughts when I think of you. Like the six mile…mmm ok, two mile runs we would go on after school for soccer practice. Remember how we would veer off the running path and stop for a while, enjoy mother-nature a bit, and then make it seem like we ran for the whole time when we got back to the team. That was a fun time Bart, I will never forget it. I was surprised to hear of your news, but glad to hear that you are doing better. And, this is a wonderful way to keep those people who care about you across the miles, close to you and informed during this challenging time. I’m glad to have this opportunity to contact you again, despite the circumstance. I’m sure that Beth won’t remember me from our brief meeting at the reunion (I was the one with the cigars). Please know that my prayers and thoughts for you and yours are deep and true. Bart, God chose you for this task, because you can handle it. I’m sure of this, because you are some of His finest work. Get well soon.
Love Ya Buddy,

Hey Bart Warner, I was just thinking about you yesterday. I was surfing the web and saw the name "Bart." You're the only Bart I know, so when I see that name, naturally, I think of you. I have no idea why but also, just a few weeks ago, I told a friend how we all thought that you went by "Ralph" until Rodney came into Mr. Sanderson's fourth grade class and said, "Is Bart here?" Remember? Isn't it weird that I've been thinking of you lately and then today I hear that you are ill? I'm so sorry to hear that. I am praying for you. They say that attitude has so much to do with recovery and if I know you (and I *do* know you, even if I haven't seen you in years, I still do know you) anyway, I'm sure that you are putting up the good fight and that your attitude is that you're going to beat this and that you are, indeed, living strongly. (Yes, Rodney... it should be "strongly" but who cares?! So long as it works, Live Strong is a great battle cry.) Remember, Bart, that it is you who "bleats defiance." You taught all of us that. Get well... get strong! I'm pulling for you. And please, let me know if there is anything I can do for you. (I'm currently an unemployed web site designer... so that means anything... errands between here and Boston, coming up there to help you and your wife and family in any way, shape, or form... I'm your girl.) Love, Peggi
