Stacy,
I was in the midst of attempting to convert my blog to a book for Maci as a keepsake, when I came across a comment you had left including the website. I just had to come by and say hello and see how your family is doing. I have sort of lost the time to actually blog everyday and have not actually put anything useful on the website in over a year. It seems time has passed me by and now with 3 kids it seems we are even more busy.I hope you all are doing well!! Take care!!

Guess that I had better add an entry here to be recorded before Mommy takes the pages down. I am sorry to see it go but understand that the need for it is no longer there - Praise the Lord for that!
Happy 5th Birthday, Morgan and Tanner - cannot believe that it has been so long since we first saw you as babies - so tiny and so very, very vulnerable! I just knew that one of you would not make it, you were so fragile. But, here you are, growing and strong and beautiful! We are so proud of what you are and what you are both becoming.
And you are so much fun now- it is nice to hear your reasoning and see the progress of your minds as you grow with your bodies.
Things will continue to change for both of you as you grow up and that is the way God has ordained - life is change, as much as we hate to see it sometimes. But, think how boring life would be without those changes; God does know what He is doing, even if we sometimes wonder.
So, we will continue to watch you grow and change and we will celebrate the changes and the birthdays as they come. We love you both with all our hearts and wish only the best for all of you as you grow older.
Stacy - I will miss your entries on this page. They always make me cry and remember but what a great record of how the kids have grown you will have for them! I admire your writing abilities and your commitment to setting things down for all. We love you and your family,Daughter.

Hey Guys,
Yes, they do grow up fast! We almost skipped Halloween because Saige was not sure she wanted to go door to door. It is the age thing. She went with a friend down the street. It is really hard watching your kids grow up and move on but that is all part of life. The past and previous Halloween pictures of Tanner and Morgan are sooooo adorable. Hopefully, some day we will make it out to see you guys and we can really catch up. I think about you guys and pray for you all the time.

I have been out of the loop...what do I say? I came to the site and was shocked by how grown up the kids are. Then I read about the latest and was sad, then read that the news may be promising...what a rollercoaster...

WOW, you sure have given us a scare, Tanner!!! None of your doing, we know, but nonetheless we are so thankful the way everything has turned out regarding this cyst and dizziness. Sometimes we wonder. . . . . . . . and we remind ourselves just how far you and Morgan have come and your continued strengths that amaze us still!!!!! God is still in control - we just need to trust Him!!! And we know the power of prayer! You truly are a miracle!
We send lots of love to all of you!!!!!

Greenfield, In - Thursday, March 27, 2008 7:36 AM CDT
I am late with getting my congratulations in for the third anniversary but we thought about everyone that day. I cannot believe that it has been three years since the transplant. And when we see Tanner, we marvel at how well he is doing and how "normal" he seems - what a treasure he is. It is interesting to see the personalities coming out on the kids as they grow up. Some traits are to be expected (Morgan being bossy) but others are so unexpected (Like Tanner being the comedian) that is a joy to spend some time with them and see what wonderful people they are becoming.

Medical miracles are with us each day and you hear of amazing things that happen but when those miracles involve your loved ones, it mean something more than modern science. It means a gracious God who loves and cares for us and allows those miracles to happen. Praise His name as we have had a few of them in our lives - the latest begin little Brayan who we miss seeing so much.

God bless, little guy - may all you and Grandma Red's anniversaries always be so happy and may Grandma get so many yellow roses some year that they won't fit into her living room. We love you and your sister and your parents always.

Dear Tanner,

Three years seems like such a long time, but in God’s grand scheme for us, it is not. I sit here thinking how blessed our family is. You and Morgan bring smiles to Mommy and I’s faces even when you are in trouble or the moment just calls for a smile. When I look into your eyes, I always remember the look you gave me three years ago. The look of “where am I going without you.” I hope and pray never to see that look again. I know that there is always someone else who has it more difficult than us especially those parents who have lost loved ones to liver disease or any other disease or medical situation.

Thank You Mom (Grandma) for your unselfish act three years ago. To the medical staff at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital that read Tanner’s website, all that I can keep saying is “Thank You” for saving my child’s life. I ask God on a daily basis to bless you and look over you as you go about your daily work of helping others in need.

I love you Tanner and Morgan and always will.

HAPPY LIVER DAY, TANNER!!!!
(or as you said to Grandma) HAPPY LIBBER DAY, GRANDMA!

God has been so good to us and today and everyday, we give thanks for the gift of life and the miracle we all see!!! THANK YOU!! for the beautiful flowers, they smell so sweet. There are 3 yellow roses - since I know yellow is one of your favorite colors and 3 to indicate this is the 3rd anniversary of your liver transplant. Grandma remembers every detail as though it happened yesterday. You received the gift of life, but I received a hundredfold blessings that continue and everytime I am with you and Morgan, I feel so young at heart and like a little kid whose world is all about trust, love, play, ice cream, and Old McDonald's!!! What could be better than that?!!!
Today is all about giving thanks to God!!! And we continue to pray for you and Morgan to stay healthy, happy and grow up to be "big people"!!! Keep smiling, Mommy and Daddy!!! Lots of hugs and kisses to all of you!!!

Stacy, you have such cute children, they have grown so much over the last almost 3 1/2 years. I love keeping up with them thru the updates you do. Missed you at the class reunion - was hoping to get to see the kids. Maybe in another 5 years. I look at the site often and just want to cry (and sometimes do) reading the wonderful things everyone writes. You sure do have 2 very special gifts from God!!!!! Maybe, hopefully, the allergies will get better. My son was a high 3 positive to milk proteins and is now a low 1 and able to have milk in moderation so there is always hope. Prayers go out to you and your family.

How many fish did you catch, Morgan? 3 How many fish did you catch, Tanner? 2 and Grandpa even caught 1 fish. . . . How much FUN it was to take you to the farmstead and see the animals and the fishing pond. The hayrack ride with the two big horses was lots of fun, too. Tanner, you were singing a song as we went along!!! We are pretty sure that Grandpa and Grandma had more FUN than you did - watching your faces light up when you caught your fish. . . . we will go there again and you can both catch more fish all by yourselves!! But until then, be good, now that you are both in BIG beds, and always know that WE LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!! And keep your liver happy, Tanner!! LOTS OF LOVE:) :)

Hey Tanner and Morgan,
You guys have made some amazing steps in your first years of life. Alisha and I are very proud of you and know the future for you two is bright. You will learn that people say that things happen for a reason even if they are bad things that you don't want to happen. Your Mom and Dad took you through a very rough start in life. I was suppose to come visit you guys in the NIC unit the weekend after Grandma Crazy Woman and Grandpa Three-hair was there. Unfortunly there was an accident that kept us from being there. I don't think as a person I was ready too see babies with tubes on them, so maybe it was better I didn't meet you until later. I stayed with Grandma for quite a while after the accident, and learned alot about time healing all wounds. Also that doctors never hurry into any descions. About 2 weeks before your cousin Brayan was born I visited my friends daughter who was in the NIC unit. I saw many babies with tubes and wires and imagined that was what you've been through. It was hard and I got a little emontial. Now I've lived a preemie fathers life for more than 7 weeks, I can truely say it was hard. Your parents are amazing people who have really helped Alisha and I alot. Your mother came up and shared all the Knowledge about the NIC unit and how to read charts, as simple as this sounds it was an amazing peace of mind that what they were telling us was true. I don't know if we could have made it or not without that little info, I don't know if we were strong enough. So maybe you guys were born so that your Mother and Father went through this to be able to help others like us in time of need. Corny? Ya probally a little, but knowing how well you guys have done has really helped Lish and I have a positive outlook as we bring cousin Brayan home. We hope to see you guys soon. Love Ya Tanner, MoMoe, and Thankyou Sis and Rando the Commando (Yes you've earned your name back)

First a quick thank you for taking the time to put up the picturs from Disney - I enjoyed checking a couple of times a day to see what had happened that day. I think a wonderful time was had by all - even those of us out here reading the website.

Happy 3rd birthday everyone! Wow - where have the years gone! I must admit that I really admire both of you, Randy and Stacy, for taking the time to reflect on what all has happened on special days throughout the year and your feelings about those events or actions. Most parents do this every now and then but so few of us actually write those thoughts down (although you always think that you will) and a few days later, life has taken over again and those tender feelings get lost in the hustle and bustle. But you will have them to catalog the years and your memories and feelings and that is a very special thing. I can't read them without crying but it is a good cry and does me and my sinuses a lot of good! Keep them coming and keep them at hand so that you can remember on those days when you would like to "kill" both of the kids - I would say that will happen about 10 years from now when they officially become teenagers!

The pictures from the wedding were great! Thanks for sharing them with us. Congratulations, Sherry and A, and Bob and I wish you all the best.

We love you all - hope the cupcakes were special at school today and everyone had a great party.

HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY, TANNER!! HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY, MORGAN!!
Can it be that you are 3, already??? You are growing way too fast for us and each time we see pictures, you change so much!! This past week-end was just the best!!!! Tanner, you looked way too handsome and Morgan, just too beautiful!!! We are SO PROUD OF YOU AND WANT TO SHOW YOU OFF!!!!
Tanner, your Mommy spoke of your courage and there is no doubt, for all you have been through, you should receive an honor badge for courage, for you have been strong and brave and not to give up - you have been a fighter from the very beginning and what a virtue that is. Grandma and Grandpa also see the loving attitude that you possess for everyone!! What a blessing that is - YOU LOVE FREELY and want everyone to be happy and without conflict!!!! You have taught us so much and we continue to be amazed at the gift of God's miracle to our family - YOU!!!!!!
WE LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW!!!!

Morgan, your loving smile is AWESOME and the spirit in you is amazing. You can keep everyone on their toes with your wit - You just looked so pretty in your pink dress for Aunt Sherry's wedding and we think it's great that you like to dress up!!! We can see that you are lost without your "big brother" - eventhough you want to do it on your own, you need Tanner!!! And he needs you!!!
Keep smiling . . . . it makes everyone around you glow!!!
WE LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW!!!!

Aunt Sherry and Uncle Al are on a plane now for their honeymoon (ask Mommy and Daddy what that is . . . ?!?!), but Grandma wants to share the song that Aunt Sherry played on the piano for Uncle Al on their wedding day.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

I see trees of green,
red roses, too.
I see them bloom
for me and you,
and I think to myself
what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue
and clouds of white,
the bright blessed day,
the dark sacred night,
and I think to myself
what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow,
so pretty in the sky
are also on the faces
of people goin' by.
I see friends shakin' hands,
sayin', "How do you do?"
they're really sayin'
"I LOVE YOU".

I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow,
they'll learn much more
than I'll ever know,
and I think to myself
what a wonderful world.

Yes, I think to myself,
WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD!!!

(words and music by George David Weiss
and Bob Thiele)

TANNER AND MORGAN, YOU HAVE MADE OUR WORLD SO BEAUTIFUL!
WITH MUCH LOVE ON YOUR 3RD BIRTHDAY - GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!

Three years ago was nothing short of a miracle. I will always remember 1:59 and 2:00 a.m., April 30, 2004, forever. Those were the times that our miracles were born. Even though you were born extremely early and small, you two were fighters from the get go. I remember waiting to hear the “crying” that one is suppose to hear shortly after birth, but I did not hear the “crying.” I began to panic, but I did not try to show it on my face because your mother was asking me what was going on, since she could not see what was happening. To this day, I often wonder how I did not pass out because I was so petrified. What seemed like hours was actually minutes before the “crying” began. Most deliveries have a hand full of staff in the room to help. We had a football team. Everyone knew their role and did an excellent job.

Lesson learned: Trust others in your time of need.

Nothing has been the same in Mommy’s and Daddy’s life since your birth. I remember watching you two in the NICU shortly after birth. I had no idea what was happening other than what the NICU staff would tell me when I asked questions. I was nearly scared to death while holding Tanner and one of his monitors went off. The nurse walked by and touched your leg. I remember asking your Mommy what she did that for, and Mommy said “Why don’t you ask her.” So when the nurse walked back by, I asked her why she did what she did. Her reply “It’s not big deal, Tanner just forgot to breath for awhile.” My heart stopped in its’ tracks. From that moment forward, I also made sure I knew what was happening or asked someone.

Lesson learned: Never be afraid to ask questions.

From numerous days in the NICU to a living donor transplant, our family has remained strong. You two have grown up to be “little people.” I know that I do not always show my love when I am disciplining you for this or that, but always know that I do love you and promise to always be there for you. You two have taught me more lessons in three years than I have learned in 31 years. Tanner, you always smile even when you know deep down that you are in big trouble. Morgan, you always tell me that “I am going to tell on you Daddy” even when you know that I am the only one around to tell on. I was asked this past weekend, at your Aunt Sherry’s and Uncle Al’s wedding, by a mentor of mine what my greatest accomplishment was in life. Was it being an engineer, a surveyor, a brother, a son, etc.? I simply responded “I am a father of twins.” My mentor looked me straight in the eye and said “Then you have everything you need in life.” I thanked my mentor for teaching me some important things in life too. You two are my greatest achievement. I am proud when you call me “Daddy.”

Lesson learned: Stop and smell the roses, even when the roses might stink.

Daddy is beginning to cry now thinking back on the last three years and wondering what is in store for us in the future. Thank you for being my children. Happy Birthday Tanner and Morgan. Love Always, Daddy.

Lesson learned: Daddy has a bigger heart than he ever knew.

I have been sitting here reading the newest entries through my tears for the past several minutes. Thank you to all who took the time and effort to add notes to his website - they are wonderful and so appreciated.

Grandpa Three Hairs and I still marvel at the medical miracles that seem to happen all the time. For us, nothing will ever be more of a miracle than Tanner's liver transplant and the almost immediate change that happened for that little boy! What a difference a few days and a working liver made for him - we listened every evening to a phone call that would give us the latest on the two patients. And, we said our prayers along with everyone else that this would work and give us a healthy little boy to watch grow up. And it seems to have worked - just look at Tanner now! Full of P and V (as granpa would say) and so busy.

Grandma Red, again, how do you say thank you for a life? I guess all that we can say is a simple "Thank you" but know that we mean it from the bottom of our hearts. My God bless you and keep you as you watch Tanner grow and may you always share a special bond (I am sure that you will). God was with all of us that day and in the following days to come.

We are looking for another great year coming up and will be glad when we have the St. Louis check up done and all shows up great. Love to all of your family and enjoy the preperations for your next big family event - the wedding!

Dear Tanner,
Something very beautiful happens when we share . . . . . . a kiss, a hug, a smile, a lifetime with someone you love, a small part can mean so much and do great things!!! My life changed so much 2 years ago and I'll never be the same!! God was first and center the whole time and He showed so many of us, family and friends, His great love and mercy for us. I remember looking back to see Grandpa Zerr and Sherry heading for the elevators after we left the room. There was no turning back - we all wanted you to have a chance at life and to be able to enjoy your twin sister, Morgan, your special Mommy and Daddy, and to grow and live life to the fullest. I began to say that special prayer of mine and I want to share it with you so in future years, maybe, it will be a special prayer for you, too. "Lord, let your mercy be upon us, as we place our trust in You." I repeated that (what seemed a million times) until I fell asleep and was wheeled to the operating room. I know that God heard that little prayer and continues to do so!!

You are very special, Tanner, and although you received a small part of Grandma's liver, I feel that I have received the greatest gift of all!! I look forward to the day when you are a little older that we can share our thoughts and feelings about your liver transplant. Our prayers today are prayers of thanksgiving to God for your wonderful parents, your special sister, Morgan, Grandpa, Grandma & Grandpa Robb, Aunt Sherry, Uncle Eric, Aunt Angela, and Katelyn, Uncle Barry, Aunt Alisha, Great-Uncle Alfred and Great-Aunt Mary Lou, so many, many friends and family who prayed very hard and were so very supportive. And special thanks to Dr. Chapman and Dr. Lowell, Penny, and all the Transplant Team members who, by the grace of God, helped our family through a very trying time.

Keep smiling, Tanner! I love you :)

Happy 2-Year Anniversary!! Thank GOD for His blessings on that day and thereafter. To Tanner -- You are such a fighter & have a personality that can make anyone around you smile. To Morgan -- What a wonderful sister, and independent little girl, and that smile of yours is so beautiful. Grandma Zerr -- You are a wonderful lady, and what a selfless act on your part for your grandson. Randy & Stacy -- There's so much to say, but you two are awesome parents and we pray for you and your family daily. You have been through so much, and even though it seems like there are endless hurdles, you keep on going. That says alot to those around you and what a tribute and example for your two beautiful children. --Lots of Love, Aunt Angie, Uncle Eric, & Cousin Kate

OK. Now I'm crying over what Aunt Sherry wrote. She said it perfectly.

Happy Anniversary to Tanner and Grandma! And to the rest of the family...because it was ALL of you that kept this little boy safe. Thank you, God, for the gift of life you've given to this perfect and beautiful child, and the chance you gave this family to appreciate all of Your grace.

Love to you all, on this gorgeous (at least in Louisiana!) day.

Dear Grandma & Tanner,

Two years ago, we sat on pins and needles as both of you underwent extensive surgery. Hours prior to the surgery, I don't think it crossed our minds that we could have lost our Tuffer or our Mother. However, by the grace of God, he kept you both safe and protected as the medical staff worked diligently transplanting a "seed" into such a sick and weak boy. That "seed" has sprouted into such an energectic, caring and loveable Tuffer!!

Mom, thank you for giving of yourself unselfishly, without question, without hesitation to give another a chance at life. You are without doubt, my hero, as I will always be your biggest fan.

Tanner, keep fighting and never give up. Your will to live and spirit is an inspiration to us all. How odd that a 9-month-old, who couldn't even walk or talk, could teach us such a valuable lesson in life? Thank you for making me a more humble and compassionate person Tanner.

Randy, Stacy & MoMo - God bless you for the strength and courage you showed us all. You both kept the faith when all odds seemed against you. And MoMo, thank you for always making Mommy and Daddy smile.

And God, thank you for keeping my little nephew and Mother safe in the palm of your hands that cold day in St. Louis. I know you have a million requests daily and somehow, you heard and answered our prayers on Februay 28, 2005. How incredibly lucky and grateful our family is to you. Thank you.

Aunt Sherry <smzerr@hotmail.com>
Denver, CO - Wednesday, February 28, 2007 1:53 AM CST
Two years ago was nothing short of a miracle. Not a day goes by that I do not count our blessings as a family. I remember saying “thank you” to you Mom as you headed for your operating room to give a part of yourself to save Tanner. I also remember saying “good luck son, I love you” to you Tanner as the anesthesiologist carried you through the double, steel doors. I have never been so scared in my life. I have never cried like I cried that day watching you being carried away while you were looking at Mommy, Aunt Sherry, and I with a look like “where am I going without you”. I had always felt that Mommy and I had some control over what happened to you and Mo Mo, but that day was out of our hands. I prayed like I had never prayed in my life. It finally hit me that I could potentially lose two loved ones in one day.

I know now how “sick” you were Tanner. I wish as Daddy that I could have taken all of your pain from you son, but I could not. Please know Tanner that when you or your sister hurt, so does Mommy and Daddy. To state that our family has been through extremely difficult times is an understatement. I know that there is always someone else who has it more difficult than us especially those parents who have lost loved ones to liver disease or any other disease or medical situation.

All that I can simply say is “Thank You Mom (Grandma)” for your unselfish act that day. To the medical staff at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital that read Stacy’s post, all that I can simply say to you is “Thank You” for saving my child’s life. Not a day goes by that I do not ask God to bless you and look over you as you go about your “daily routines”.

Oh Stacy.... I feel your pain! Last time we were in they made a "special" menu for Aiden.. the first item listed was jello... (uh can we say beef and pork?!) then item number 3 PEANUT BUTTER and celery. SO I guess the goal is to KILL my child while we are there? SO needless to say he can NOT eat any of their food unless it comes in a package un opened. Period. I bring my own chicken nuggets and he eats fritos like they were going out of style.

ok so how is this about me? My point is, this is just insane. I have yet to be in any hospital where they had ANYONE educated in food allergies. And we know we have been in top children's hospitals in the south.

I am glad he is hanging in there, their photos are precious, and am sorry he had such a a bad week. We are praying for all of you! hugs and love

Glad that Tanner is home and feeling better! Isn't it amazing that they start feeling better and going 100 mph again....and the parent is ready to just sleep for a couple of days after getting NO sleep in the hospital:). It really doesn't faze our little ones much, does it? The allergy thing is absolutely NO fun while in-patient! However, our hospital will send things up that Emma IS allergic to...UGH! They just don't pay any attention. I hope that Tanner gets to stay home....and I hope that you can go on your trip (without having to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes:).
