Johnny & Donnie,
I just wanted to drop a line and let you know that I think about Kayla so often and remember her walking the halls in all of her cute little outfits and of course, her side kick, Brandon. I know it is very hard and we all question why us but one day we will know God's plan. I know that Amanda and Kayla have been reunited and they share a special bond. Sometimes I think about the fact that Amanda did not get to have children and I feel sad but I know that she is up in Heaven sharing a special bond and love with Kayla and many other children. I can see Amanda just leading Kayla by the hand.
As Amanda was leaving us, she said, I'm ready to go the Heaven now and was trying to get up out of her bed. I said, Honey, what are you doing, and she said " I'm going to Heaven.
I just wanted to share a thought with you, I know we were all very sad as our children were leaving us, but I can picture others in that Heavenly City saying "Look here she comes" and I know there was such happiness.
I had a saint of God write to me who has been a Christian for many years and is up in years and she was talking about how her journey was almost up, and she would be going to see Jesus, and she said "OH, WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE.
It makes me feel comforted to know that our children are in Heaven with Jesus and everlasting love. Take care of yourselves, and may we all find comfort and peace. God bless you all.
Love, Kathy & Gary Massey

Dear Johnnie and Donna,
Although words are inadequate and fall short of comfort for times such as these; there is solace in knowing there is One Who understands and brings reassurance during times of difficulty. He is Christ Jesus - the compassionate Shepherd who now cares for His precious lamb Kayla.
Three years ago - Feb.2nd 2000 our youngest son , Luke - 12 years old at the time, was coming out of the shower and suffered a cardiac arrest which resulted in a lack of oxygen to the brain .
Our family has established a website called No Tears In Heaven,
www.notearsinheaven.com which is dedicated to the peace and love Christ Jesus offers to families and individuals during times of personal crisis and hopefully may be of encouragement to your family.

Dear Lewis Family,
I learned of your daughter's death from my sister in SC who was asked to pray for Kayla by a co-worker. Being a mother of three children myself, I sat on the phone and cried with my sister as we mourned for a precious young life we never even were blessed to know. As I viewed her beautiful pictures today and read through journal entries, I realized how God uses his angels to touch people in special ways. We are never to take one day for granted as we seek His will in our lives and continue to do His work. Thank you for this website, for sharing your beautiful daughter with others, and for reminding us that God is love...even in the midst of grief. God bless you and keep you in His care, dear ones.

Johnnie, Donna, Kyle, Mr. & Mrs. Kinlaw:
I am a friend of Mike, Randy, Michele and others at Regional & RMC. I have been keeping up with Kayla through them and was sadden to hear she is no longer physically here. In memories and in our hearts she will forever be here in spirit. I know from personal experience how difficult and heart wrenching it can be to watch your child to struggle to live (My son died from a car accident in Oct. 2000 at the age of 16). I also know in my heart that Kayla is in a better place, with no pain, romping through the flowers with God and my son, Jon. It doesn't completely take away the pain, but it helps in the darkest hours as does the continued support of family and friends. In Psalm 34:18(NIV) it says "The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." God will not leave you in your time of need and will give you the strenght to continue until the day you are reunited again with Kayla. I truly believe this and I am a living example of that very scripture. I do not focus or dwell on my loss, but I think of my son every day, some days I laugh at the silly things he use to say or do, some days it hurts to think of him not being here. I try to continously focus on the blessings that God has continued to give me. The very fact that God gave me my son to love and nuture, even if for a short time, was a blessing. I feel I am a better person, a more understanding person because God let me have him for a while. God has also blessed me with a wonderful, caring and loving family and friends. I can see that God has also blessed you with the same. I have met Mrs. Kinlaw several times at functions for her company and to me that has been another blessing from God, because she is a wonderful person to know, how blessed you are to have her in your family. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers and I will pray that God will give you all the strenght that you need as you need it and to help you to focus on all the blessings you still have. I honestly mean it when I say if there is any thing I can do for you now, or in the future, please let me know. Don't be afraid to call upon your friends when you need them. That's why they are here, to help you when you need it, to laugh, cry, listen or talk or just sit with you and stare at the wall. God keep you all strong and safe.

Dear Donna and Family, I cried to hear of your great loss on the bank board dedicated to Kala. I have done nothing but think of you all day. We carried our baby's together and gave birth a little over a month apart from each other. So each time I look at my son today my heart breaks for you.I wish there was something I could say to you and your family but there are no word that seem ok. Other than I am thinking of you and may GOD bless you and wrap his loving arms around you. To help get you through.

Dearest Lewis family,
I am so sorry to hear that Kayla has gone to be in Heaven, safe in God's arms. I did not have a chance to follow Kayla's journey, but I am glad that I came across her site, just so I "knew" who she was. What an honour. She was such a gorgeous little girl. I looked at her photos for the first time and her pictures just melted my heart. She really did fight hard and gave it all she had...what a trooper. Please know that she is now at peace and happy in Heaven's garden with all of her other angel friends. She will never have to feel pain ever again and she will never have to be in a hospital ever again! She is now completely healed and boy did she deserve it...I just want you to know that I will be praying hard for your family. Praying that God will grant you the strength you need to get you through what must be the most difficult time in your life. Always know that Kayla is watching over you now... I will check back soon.

God bless,
XOXOXOXOXO

Thanks so much for the mention in your update. We are so happy Kayla is doing well and back at her home. We hope you guys get nothing but happiness and good health in the future. From our being through a transplant, we know what your family has been through.
We did get good news on Tuesday, we are 100% donor cells (thank you God). We appreciate so much you keeping Amanda in your prayers.
However, We have had a small bump in the road, and are back in the hospital. The doctors think she might be having some infection in gall bladder, which sometimes happens after transplant. She had run some high fevers, and gave us a few scary nights. Although, today, Sunday, is our 96th day after transplant and she is feeling better today. No fevers tonight. We believe that God will carry us through this stay as well. We feel so blessed to have done as well as we have throughout the transplant. It will probably be the end of Oct. before we head home, but thats O.K. We will continue to pray for Kayla and your family.
Love, Gary, Kathy and Amanda

Dear Johnnie and Donna,
I recently learned of Kayla through an employee of where Brenda Kinlaw works and was given the information on how to visit your website. Kayla indeed is a beautiful child and reading of her progress is very encouraging. Two years ago - Feb.2nd 2000 our youngest son , Luke - 12 years old at the time, was coming out of the shower and suffered a cardiac arrest which resulted in a lack of oxygen to the brain . Through God’s grace and mercy Luke survived and is on a slow but steady road to recovery. If you have an opportunity, we have established a website called No Tears In Heaven, www.notearsinheaven.com which is dedicated to the peace and love Christ Jesus offers to families and individuals during times of personal crisis and hopefully may be of encouragement to your family.
Sincerely
Cliff Gribick

At Unity Presbyterian we pray for you often. Of course uncle Dan keeps us posted. The website is a great way to keep in touch also. Our 10 yr. old son had cancer surgery last summer and God brought us through. He is doing fine today, thanks to God who answers prayer. So "Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)

Hi,
I hope you are still getting good reports. Kayla looks great in the new pictures. Kyle was at the office last week,he is really growing and was in a great mood. Mr. Quattlebaum teased him about having on Carolina Gamecock shoes - Brenda said, "now I know why he never wants to wear them." Kyle, said, "I think I'm going to have to throw them away."
Hang in there and stay strong. Remember the poem, "Footprints in the Sand"...I'm sure it's now that God is carrying all of you. We are praying hard for Kayla's complete recovery.

Kayla,
We have just returned from our big trip out west. We got to fly in 4 big airplanes and one small one--over the Grand Canyon! We went to the San Diego Zoo, put our feet in the Pacific Ocean, and saw Hollywood, too. But every single day we were gone, we prayed for you and wondered how you were doing. It was so good to get home yesterday and check the web page and find out that everything is going so well. I will be in touch this week. It is the week of VBS, so it will be very hectic, but I want to hear more about Kayla. Talk to you soon.

Hi, I learned of Kayla's illness through friends at adidas. What a beatiful child! For the past 3 years I've monitored a transplant patient (Jenna Sailsbury -12 yrs. old) through the caring bridge organization. This web page will bring you unbelieveable support! I think Jenna's website has over 200,000 hits!!! And it was such a convenient way to keep everyone updated! Today I've added Kayla to my list and will check on you regularly.
You and your family are and will be in my daily prayers. I pray that God gives you the strength and peace you will need for the next days to come. Lean on HIM and he will provide your every need.
In HIS Love,

Hi, Johnnie
I was so glad to see this web page and have a way of contacting you. I think about ALL of you each day, and was glad to hear that things are going as well as expected. Too many phone calls can be bothersome for you, so it is wonderful to have this way of letting you know that we care and think about you every day. Love to Donna and Kayla too.
Keep in touch.
