Journal

I have not written on Caringbridge since spring 2007 so I wanted to update everyone.

Bob and Angie and I went to Las Vegas in April 2007. We had a really great time and Angie was the big winner on the $5 slot machine. I had experienced some pain and discomfort through much of February and March. It took a while but after a bone marrow biopsy in April it was discovered that I had metastasis to my bone marrow and I was not producing enough red blood cells. The end of April I had a blood transfusion and felt much better. At that point , I changed my chemo drug from Xeloda to Doxil.

I struggled with Doxil. It upset my stomach and I started losing weight. While I was on it I started to develop ascites (fluid in my abdomen). I switched to Taxol and Avastin in August. I had parencentesis (removal of fluid) several times. This was the start of my beginning of a downward slide. The drugs were too much for my body size and I got really sick.

In September my sister, Kerry and I went to the Keith Block Medical Center in Chicago to have them review my medical file. They concurred with my current treatment. They are very much into nutrition so they reviewed many of my blood tests and gave me nutritional advice. While we were in Chicago we met Mom, my sisters Laurie and Darcee and my Mom’s sister Chris Ward. We had a great time. We saw “Wicked” the Broadway show while we were there and just enjoyed our entire weekend together.

The first weekend in October, we did go see Derek and his good friend, Stacy, in Milwaukee . Stacy and I spent one day getting pedicures and manicures and eating a great lunch. Derek took us to the Packers v. Bears game. Derek always shows us a wonderful time.

I received the Taxol and Avastin in September and October. I got sicker each time. Also the fluid build-up in my abdomen continued to increase and caused me more and more discomfort. I stopped receiving chemo the end of October be cause I could no longer tolerate it. The end of October I had a drain installed in my abdomen so that I can drain the fluid when I need to.

The drain has been great but it started a problem with dehydration that has been an ongoing problem. After Thanksgiving, Bob and I went to Boston to share in Will and Kristin Banning’s wedding. What a wonderful wedding and weekend we had. Derek was the best man and we got to spend time with Derek, Will and the Banning family.

When I got back from Boston, I experienced many problems. My mom and Kerry took over and decided that I am unable for moment to take take of myself. I am now staying at my Mom’s in Lenexa. If anyone needs to reach me call my cell phone 913-209-3749.
