Comforting words...know that I'm praying so hard for Alicia!
John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Praying for Alicia's fever, mouth pain and infection to go away soon so she can feel better and be on a smooth road to recovery. Is she allowed to use something called Magic Mouth Wash? It's something with a numbing agent and something else that I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm not a medical professional but I thought it worth mentioning.

Dear Michelle,

Am storming heaven and praying that Alicia's fever and the bacteria in her blood go away and that she will soon be up and around and driving you crazy! Maybe when that happens the Sponge Bob and Dora balloons WILL TALK TO YOU (just joking)!

Your strength and good sense of humor came out in your posting (good to see that) in your comments about talking to the balloons.

Just hold that precious little girl as long as she wants to be held and let that strength of yours flow into her. Sleep is a good thing...it lets the body heal too.

When you feel anxious and worried (which IS normal), just think of all the people in the world that are praying for you and Alicia...faith can move mountains!

Remember also how much you are loved!

Our hearts go out to you! It's got to be so hard to see her so weak and tired and have no energy...and to have an infection. We'll be praying and thinking of you guys. Please let us know if you need anything. I wish we were closer to help you out better! You made me laugh with how you said you wanted to talk to Dora- haha! Give that precious baby girl a hug for me. Much love, thoughts, and prayers your way.

They just keep on going and always with a smile . I hope that Alica gets a super prize from the Hair Fairy . I mean why not ? There's the Tooth Fairy :>)

It is so nice to know that you are there for your daughter and praying she gets united with Alica soon . Keeping Alica in our prayers .

It has to be so hard for all of you to be separated from each other! Thank goodness you have been able to be there to help Erika during a time where she wasn't able to be there. It has to be so hard for Erika (and you) to be away from the other babies. I can only imagine! Hopefully it won't be too long before Erika is there.

As for the hair...my heart goes out to you. I can only imagine how I would feel if that were Emma and her beautiful hair falling out. That is so sweet that there is a Hair Fairy! I'm so glad that Alicia doesn't seem to care. That makes it much easier. I bet she looks so cute without the hair!!

Can't wait to see some photos, including ones with the momma in them. I"m not sure I've ever seen a photo of her!

Dear Michelle,
bless you. You have such a sweet heart. That would have been so difficult to see Alicia have the NG Tube put down. Isaac had to have that done numerous times when he was a little baby. However, I am sure, that as a premie, he didn't cry and scream like Alicia was doing and that would have been heartbreaking for you. You are so sweet. We continue to pray for you all,

Michelle, your entries are so sweet and it tugs at the heart reading everything! I imagine brushing her hair must've really been emotional and difficult. Hopefully it won't be too long before she has some more to have brushed.

As for the NG tube, hugs to you! We had to do that when Emma was a baby after her heart surgery, and it made both Tyler and I cry each time. I know we'd be the same way now! I think sometimes it helps the little ones to see us cry...not all the time, but it helps them to know that we understand it's not fun at all for them.

I hope her bum feels better soon and that the bad days don't end up very bad. Give her a hug for us. Emma said her prayers tonight and prayed that Alicia will feel better. This is the first little FA friend that she has had to go through a transplant. Well, no Haylee is a little friend of hers too, but she wasn't aware of it all!

Lots of love, hugs, and prayers to you all...

2 Corinthians 4:15-18 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Hello Guys,
I am so relieved that things are going well. Michelle, you are doing so well and Alicia is a trooper. I can understand about your emotions in regards to the hair. I know people say it will be ok and it will....but if I was in transplant, losing my hair is so upsetting. However, as Kirstin said, she will look really cute in a hat! I hope she doesn't get too much of a sore bottom from the diarrhoea. Are you putting barrier cream on it? It can get so sore.....I don't mean to sound bossy....haha!
We love you and are praying,

Michelle,

You both are in our prayers. Its a lot of hard work but you will be strong enough to get through it. Remember to ask lots of questions and ask them what everything is that they give her. Julia hated when they would come take her blood pressure, so we let her decide which arm they would use and that seemed to help. I also encouraged Julia to ask questions as well. They might be young but they understand sooo much, sometimes too much!!!

Hi Michelle,
I can most certainly understand the emotion that you have been feeling. It would be so hard just thinking about all that. Don't worry about the "Friday the 13th" thing. If you know Jesus, you have all the authority you need, in Christ, to stop any of that supersitious stuff!
Bless you heaps, my love. We are praying that the chemo goes well and that your beautiful granddaughter will have that second chance at life.

I'm not sure you will remember me but I will never forget you and Alicia. I have volunteered at camp for a number of years and always for FA families and can be found with the teens as their counselor. But one year, a beautiful little vivacious and endearing imp named Alicia became my "evening events buddy" and she showered me with hugs and kisses like I've never received before or since.

Jo and Jacy have been MY TEENS for years and I love them so much...they are such wonderful young women. I just learned that you are staying with their family while you await Alicia's transplant. I read the info on the family page and learned some more.

I want you to know that since meeting Alicia, as are all CS kids, she and you have been in my prayers and as she goes into transplant, I will pray especially hard for her. I will also storm heaven for you.

You are strong and loving and you've got what it takes...remember that....look at all you've been through already.

Know that so many people are pulling for you both and keeping you in their thoughts and prayers.

HI Michelle,
I am so glad that Alicia went well through her surgery. What an incredible platelet count after the transfusion! Hehe. Don't worry, it is very normal for children to yell, scream and be distressed in the recovery room. The anaesthetic changes their demeanor and they do that....Isaac has done that after surgery as well and it is quite distressing to witness.
Well done for getting through another day my love.

Hang in there guys! I remember how sick I felt when I saw Erin's central line for the very first time. But, I can tell you this -- very quickly we came to LOVE that thing! Erin went over a year without having one "owie" or "poke" -- and that took all of the fear out of her hospital/doctor visits. She actually came to enjoy our visits with the doctors and nurses. Hang in there. Remind yourself that this is the first step toward Alicia's new, healthy life! We're keeping you in our prayers.

Hi Alicia and grandma! I just wanted to let you know that I just happened to check your web page today -- and I had no idea you were heading to Cincinnati for transplant so soon! I met you last year at the FA Family Conference at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. My daughter, Erin, underwent a bone marrow transplant in Minneapolis for FA in May of 2005. We received all of Erin's follow-up care at Cincinnati Children's Hospital (we live about 30 minutes from Cincinnati Children's hospital) and we really love Dr. Davies! She helped us through some tough times, and she is wonderful. Keep the faith! Cincinnati Children's Hospital is a leader in Bone Marrow Transplants for FA children -- they do an excellent job, and they will take VERY good care of Alicia. You will be in our prayers in the days and weeks to come.

HI Michelle,
your love just radiates for your grandaughter, Alicia. I think it is wonderful the promise you made to be with her no matter what. It sounds like your dear daughter, Erika, will also need a lot of emotional support and looking after....and it is good to be strong for Alicia but it is also good to be strong for your daughter who will need such care while her daughter who she loves so much, goes through transplant. You are a blessing to your daughter and your grandaughter....and remember to get support yourself, both physically and emotionally as you need it. I love you guys so much and am praying for you lots.

Just wanted to stop by and tell you I'm praying for you and Alcia. I just know in my heart everything will turn out just fine. Sarah sends a special "Hello" to Alcia. Sarah just the other day was looking at the pictures from camp, she saw the one of her holding Alcia. She looked at me and said "Mommy,I will always remember the good times at camp". We miss you both. Try to hold on to the positve thoughts, let go of the negitive and you both will sail right through this.

That's hard to hear that she is getting tired! It is so UNLIKE her to be tired. She's a bouncy little girl like Emma. I'm sorry her platelets are so low. I hate Emma's being at 67...and can't imagine how you feel about Alicia's being as low as they are.

Congratulations on the 3rd baby coming! We're expecting baby #3 as well. We'll find out at the beginning of next month what we are having. Obviously we're hoping and praying for a healthy bone marrow match for Emma, but we won't find that out until the baby is born. Baby is due at the end of July sometime.

Hope you guys are well. Give Alicia a hug and kiss for Emma and I!

Alicia,
Good luck in Cincy! I know it's no fun getting poked all the time but you are such a trooper. Take care and try to mix some fun in with the medical stuff.

Just wanted to let you know that we are praying for good results from the biopsy. Haylee will be getting hers done next Friday. Pray for a good outcome from hers too. Alicia is such a beautiful and loving little girl. We were so glad to get to see her at camp. She and Emma are all that Haylee has talked about. They were so cute. All the same size and running and dancing. Truely a Kodak moment. Keep your chin up Mee-maw. You are doing a fine job. Praying for a good report.

Heavenly Father, Physician of our souls and. bodies, who have sent Your only begotten Son and our Lord Jesus Christ to heal every sickness and infirmity, visit and heal us. Lord, please put Your Healing Hands on this body and heal. Lord, You have taught us Your word to pray for Each other that we may be healed. Please grant the gift of complete health. HI,
I was just looking through the family pages and found Alicia's page. Looking at her pictures, I remember the week you and your sister spent at Camp Sunshine and how endearing and sweet Alicia was. She never went by without saying and signing "I LOVE YOU!!!". (I was the "older woman" who was a counselor for the FA Teens when you attended camp.)

I hope that you are all doing well and that someday we can meet again at Camp Sunshine.

~*~ HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY ~*~

“Love...It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.”
(1 Corinthians 13:7)

A Mother's love is something
that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

~Helen Steiner Rice~

Have a blessed Mother's Day!

Alicia...
How's it going, being the big sister?? You know, baby Ashon is going to look up to you for assistance as he grows.

My son was extrememly jealous when my daughter was born. They are 4-1/2 years apart. So what we did, was buy him a baby doll. Just a plain, simple one. So when we bathed our baby, he did the same. We fed her, he fed his, etc...and when we took her for walks in her stroller..he purchased him one of those cheap lil $5 toy strollers, and he could walk his baby with us. It made a world of difference and the jealousy didn't last long at all. Also, before bedtime every night, our son got some extra story and attention time, "big brother time" we called it!
It's a huge adjustment, but one that Alicia will overcome in no time!!

Wishing you all a great week!

Love and hugs,

Ha! I just wanted to stop by and thank you for all the support that you have been giving me and i have been thinking about you and your family tonight.

Happy New Year Alicia & Michelle! I signed your guest book a while back, and was just checking in on you. I live in Cincinnati, and I am also the mother of another FA child who underwent bone marrow transplant in 2005. Though transplant is a difficult time, it is also the means to make Alicia healthy and strong again, so do not despair! Know that many people will be praying you through this time, and in the end, Alicia will be healthier and stronger than she has ever been. If my family can assist you in any way (we know Cincinnati Children's Hospital inside and out!!), please call us. We have been where you are, and we know this is a scary time. The doctors and nurses at Cincinnati Children's are among the best in the world in treating FA patients, and they will take VERY good care of Alicia. God will take care of the rest. The Ronald McDonald House is right next door to the hospital, and it is a magnificent organization. Perhaps we will meet while you are in Cincinnati, as I am planning on bringing a group of friends to the Ronald McDonald House in the next month or so to provide dinner to the residents! Do not despair - - God will see your family through this. We will pray for a very smooth trip through transplant for Alicia. Best wishes and God bless.

Here is a prayer Michelle look at this when you get the "prognosis, diagnosis and the outcomes...
God's Angel
by Paul Dammann
God sent to me an angel,
it had a broken wing.
I bent my head and wondered
"How could God do such a thing?"
When I asked the Father
why he sent this child to me,
the answer was forthcoming,
He said " Listen and you'll see."
"My children are all precious,
and none is like the rest.
Each one to me is special
and the least is as the best.
I send each one from Heaven
and I place it in the care
of those who know my mercy,
those with love to spare.
Sometimes I take them back again.
Sometimes I let them stay.
I am never far away.
So if you find an angel
and you don't know what to do,
remember, I am with you,
love is all I ask of you"
Michelle Alicia and Erika you are in my prayers every minute BE STRONG and always know GOD is never far away

Dear Michelle,
I know how deeply you are struggling. I know how deeply scary and upsetting this type of situation is. I know how urgent it feels and I know how you don't want to do it. These are all feelings I have struggled with since my rise in blast count and the feelings that run through my head. I am, truly very sorry that this has happened with Alicia and with the baby being born....even that it has happened. It doesn't feel right and it feels unbelievable. I know that sometimes people want to hit people who say that Jesus is in control. Even with my blast count I have had no one to lean on but God. Even then sometimes I feel very cross and tell Him so. Jesus is Great and Mighty and He does understand our pain and He doesn't like to see us in pain. So I am going to pray that His peace and comfort will come to you amazingly through the confusion and fear. Alan and Isaac and I love you guys. We love your whole family! We will be here for you my love. We know how hard this is and we feel very sorry about it. But, Jesus does reign....and He is in control even though we feel so confused and that is what I find comforting even though I don't have a clue why things happen. Will check on you soon.

Michelle -

So sorry you got bad news this week! But take heart - the Lord is still with you and He is still in charge! We'll be praying that either Alicia has better results next month or they find a perfect match in the cord blood bank. I know how much you love your precious granddaughter...we'll pray for all of you. Please take heart that transplants these days are much more successful. Wishing you the best in the New Year!

Love,

Hi Grandma,In times like these, it's not easy to give words of hope, it's not easy to keep the faith, but do it anyway. Don't loose hope. That's the worse thing you can do. Just always be there for her, always by her side. Give her the world and the Lord will be with you and her giving you all the strength needed to continue. Alicia will be okay.

It's good to hear how things are going. Glad that things are going about the same with Alicia. I can totally relate to how you feel about little Alicia and trying to stay strong for them but feel like you are about to break inside. It's so hard to watch them go through everything...and to know we're still only at the beginning of it all. They are such special little children (and adults). We hope that the new baby on the way is a bone marrow match for Alicia. What a blessing that would be! Take care and hope all is well with you and your family.

Hi Michelle and Alicia....Johanna had her BMT in Cincinnati and just yesterday, at her doctor's appointment here in Fl, she said she missed Cincinnati. The nurses and doctors were very supportive and always indulging her. We were very pleased. I spent 3-1/2 months there and might have some insight into the area...if you need it.

I just wanted to post a note to your website. My daughter, Erin, is an FA patient that is recovering from a bone marrow transplant she had this past May in Minneapolis, MN. She is 8 years old, and was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia in September of 2003. We live in the Greater Cincinnati area, and if we can help your family as you navigate the BMT "waters" here -- we would be happy to do so (oh/erinmckee). Best of luck to you, and we will be praying for your family, and your upcoming move to Cincinnati.

Hello there Alicia and Michelle,
I am so relieved to hear that you had no bleeding in your head at all!! And what a brave girl you are. Don't worry about being scared at the hospital. I have the same disease as you have....Fanconi Anaemia.....and when I go to then hospital and have blood taken....they have to stick me a lot too!! And I don't like it....I even do a LOT of complaining!! And I am 27 years old!! HAHA. I used to use emla cream when I was little like you. It helped. I am glad that your platelet count came up and I rejoice with you.
You are such a sweetie,

I'm glad she is doing better. Poor baby!! I can't believe it took so many sticks! Emma has had difficulties before too, but not that many. It's a very stressful time. In case something like that ever happens again (where she needs medical treatment), they can give her Versed which is a calming drug that makes them less anxious and relaxes them. We have them give it to Emma before her biopsies before they try to put an IV in. If I'm remembering right, it also helps them to not remember. We've only used it times when they are going to be putting her to sleep anyway.

Also, I'm not sure if you know (we didn't know this until last October), you can use Emla cream. It will numb the arm and make pokes less painful for the little one. I know in this case, it wasn't something you could really plan for. Just thought I'd mention it for her regular blood draws. Glad she is doing better. I can imagine you would all be worn out! Great to hear her platelets are going up.

Take care,
Teresa

Hello My Special Friends,
I'm praying for Alicia's counts and many
of my friends are too. Yesterday I was knitting
with the women at the retirement home. I've talked
about Alicia many times to the women. This morning
the activity director called me and asked me to
tell you they are all praying for Alicia.
As soon as I walk into the room there
someone always asks me, how is
our little Alicia doing. You have many friends
that you don't even know praying for Alicia.
I love you all very much. Hugs, Rose

He to was waiting for a bone marrow transplant he had aplastic anemia. He also new sign language, cause he had a speech problem. He still was the love of my life. He passed away 1 month after Brandon, he did not get his bone marrow transplant, he did have a liver transplant though.

I didn't see these pictures last time I looked! They are so cute:-) I didn't know that Alicia had surgery on her hands to make thumbs. That is really neat. It looks really good. I think I signed your guestbook a little while back and said we weren't going to be able to make it. Well, a couple of the other mothers have pestered me (a good pester) and now we are going. We will make it work. It's just too important to go!! I think that would be so cute if Wesley, Alicia, and Emma signed to each other like Kristin wrote. Emma signs to her little friends and cousins, but they dont' always know what she is saying (often it's "stop" and "no" haha!). Can't wait to meet you!!

This is an article about a hospital using the type of treatment Dlyan is, MIBG, it's the university of Michigan. I wonder if they would be an option? I know Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was also doing a clinical trial with MIBG, and even though they aren't taking on new clinical trial patients, they might make a consideration with your situation? I have also hear that University of California at San Francisco uses MIBG. Maybe you could inquire with these hospials? Hope this helps...

Hi Michelle, Erica and Alicia,
As the other wonderful FA families have stated, we welcome you and understand the difficult path God has chosen for you. For we all have walked in your shoes. The diagnosis of Fanconi Anemia is so hard to accept and the medical issues are complicated to learn. But the wonderful support group we have is a ray of sunshine. You are never alone. Our first child died at birth. We did not know that our daughter had Fanconi Anemia. Our second child was healthy as could be. Our third child, our second son, Peter has Fanconi Anemia. After his diagnosis at the age of 6 months, I suddenly realized exactly how true it was that every day I share with Peter is truly a gift from God. For every day he lights up my life, it is another day more than I had with his sister. And what a gift that is! Enjoy every day to the fullest that you have with Alicia. Empower yourself with as much knowledge as you can and draw strength from the other families. We are here for you. Many hugs,

Mary Ann Fiaschetti (Peter's Mom, age 5)

I remember the day our doctor told us to rule out Fanconi Anemia. I went home and looked up on the computer what it was and spent the whole night crying on the floor of Wesley's room while he slept. All this information is just so overwhelming. It's a difficult, crappy disease. It's not fair and it will never be easy. Your family is just dealing with all this news. It's so new and confusing. All I can tell you is that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! We are all here for you. Your new FA family will understand like no one else will and they will embrace you and Alicia and your daughter like you are a part of us. I promise you that you will gain strength during any difficult time from the friends you will gain through this experience. It is, no doubt, a crappy experience but we will be there for your family. I can't imagine, although we've only known for a year, how hard it must be to get slapped in the face with all this so soon. It will be okay though. Take a breath and take one day at a time. This is a fight but you aren't fighting alone. Girl, you've got an army behind you. Wesley has had a very low ANC due to a virus, just a cold can make things crazy so I guess the best advice I could give is to pray for the best but be prepared for anything. You're doing the right thing by trying to become informed, it's important. It's so confusing but it takes time to understand it all. At camp, you can tell the new families from the "experienced" families. The veteran families ask these amazing questions and you sit there like, "I'm never going to understand all this" but it will come. If you are going to Cincinnati, Robin is a huge help with any questions you might have. Krisstina would be a big help too cause she's got twice the knowledge :0) Please just don't ever feel alone. You can do this and we're here for you. Talking about it will help too. I hope your daughter reads Alicia's site. I couldn't imagine having to deal with this being as young as she is. You've got a lot on your plate. One thing you will learn through this all is how amazing Alicia is. She will be your ray of sunshine, your hug just at the right moment, her kiss will fill you with warmth and the words, "I love you" will bring tears. Okay, I'm crying now so I'm gonna go. Plus I've taken up your whole guestbook. Tell Alicia Wesley sends her a hug and we'll be thinking of you all.

Dear Michelle, I'm sorry things are scary right now. We'll continue to pray for Alicia AND for you and your daughter. It's so much for any of us to deal with... I can't imagine being as young as your daughter and being faced with such issues. So difficult. Please let her know that we're here for her... that she can post her questions, her fears, her hopes... anything she wants to the list. It is a safe environment just for that.

Just checking in on Alicia. I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day and we can't wait to meet you guys at camp. I feel somewhat guilty because we live about 20 minutes away from camp. It's exciting though because you'll get to meet families from around the world.

Anyway, give Alicia big hugs from Wesley and have a great night.

Hi. It's Wesley's mom again. I just thought I'd tell you that Wesley was also born with malformed ears. His ear canals didn't form so he wears a bone conduction hearing aid. We also are teaching him sign language. Maybe he and Alicia will be signing to eachother at camp. How cute! There are really great videos at www.signingtime.com for children. Wesley loves them and I know another FA child who loves them too. Just if you're interested. I'm glad you're finding support through caringbridge. We find everyone just so special. See you at camp!

Hello! I'm so glad you started a website for your granddaugher. You can tell that you are just so proud of your family! Although it's tough, know that you are not alone. I have a two year old named Wesley who also has FA. We're very excited to get the chance to meet you all at Camp this year. It will be our second time. Krisstina and her daughters are a wonderful family and I'm so glad they are there to help you. Those are two of the most bravest girls you'll ever meet.

Well, know you are not alone and we are all here for you. We've only been at this a year so we're pretty new at this too but anything you need, just ask. You have a whole new family to lean on.

Hi Alicia and family,

Just wanted to drop by and say "hi"... I am a member of the Prayer Bears support group, whose mission is to pray for sick children all over the world, and I have added you to our prayer list. Erika, I know it must have been very hard on you to deal with this at such a young age, but you sound like you a wonderful mom! Alicia looks like such a sweetheart... her pictur just melted my heart. Am praying that God will pour His blessings on your entire family in the future, and that when a BMT becomes necessary, that a donor is quickly found.

Hugs and prayers,

Welcome Michelle, Erika and Alicia. You are very lucky to have a good pediatrician that figured out Alicia's diagnosis so quickly! Most FA patients aren't so fortunate. You have the advantage of being able to be proactive on Alicia's behalf! Alicia, you are adorable and very blessed to have two such caring women in your life! I look forward to meeting you all at Camp Sunshine.

Dear Michelle, Erika and Alicia, Welcome to the FA group. It's always bittersweet when someone new joins the group... on the one hand we're so sad that another little one has been diagnosed with FA; on the other, we're so thankful to have such a big, growing support group. I can't imagine facing something like this 'alone'... what did we ever do before the internet?! Hope you have a blast at Camp Sunshine. We went last year and it was awesome. We won't be going this year as we're headed to transplant, but can't wait to go back in 2006. Again, welcome. Lean on us when you need to. That's what it's all about.
