Have you heard of Paul Newman's Flying Horse Farms Camp in Ohio? They serve children and their families coping with cancer, heart conditions, and other serious illnesses, free of charge. In addition to summer camp, they have family weekends throughout the year. Their next Family Camps are April 27-29 and May 18-20. Hematology & Oncology camp is June 24-29 and July 7-12. Doctors from Cincinnati Children's Hospital attend too.

Dear Amy and Steve,
I got to know Steve when he worked with our daughter, Mary, at LFHS (Class of 2006) and therefore learning about your precious Mackenzie and her health issues. I hope you are doing well dispite your own health issues, Amy! I am so happy to hear she is still hanging in there, but sorry to hear about your plans to move and find new jobs and lives for all of you. I pray that AZ worked out and God has shown you all an new lease on life! I have kept your family close to my thoughts and in my prayers all of these years and just came across the wonderful card from all of you many years ago with the caringbridge address and P.U.S.H ing wording. May God continue watch over all of you ~ God bless you!

Hi, Amy, you don't know me, but I have followed your family for years and kept you in prayer. I just read your update and realized that another family that I follow and pray for is in the pheonix area and I wanted to share her page with you. You have both been so amazing in your faith and giving God glory no matter how difficult things were. They are struggling in the midst of the cancer fight right now. I just appreciate you both as mothers and for your strength and inspiration that I wanted to pass them on to you, especially if you may end up in the same area and the same facilities. visit: www.caringbridge.org/visit/mcraekate/journal. Maybe you could connect.

I wish I could spend more time with this family! I've been so blessed by the Johnson girls and I've only spent two weeks of my entire life with them. I love the relationships the girls have with each other and I especially love their desire to improve their walk with Christ so they can better show His love to their friends. I hope they never lose that. :)

Aim:

I know you know this, but I felt the need to tell you:

"My grace is sufficient to meet all your needs."

Sometimes I need just to hear those words from Him again.

God has provided so many miracles and answers for our girls over the years. He is faithful. He is good.

Sadie is 17 today. Yeah, God!!

Love you so much. Praying for the liver spots to "be gone" along with you.

With you in prayer this morning as you prepare for your trip to Cinci. God, be with Mack, Amy, and the girls in their travels. Keep them safe and healthy. Be with the doctors who are examining and treating Mack and give them wisdom and talent to treat her perfectly. Please let all the spots on her liver be miraculously gone; for we know that if this is your will, then it is truly possible. Please let the love and prayers of all of those reaching out to the Johnson family flow into Mack's heart and mind and give her continued strength, courage, and perserverance to continue being the little warrior she is! I pray this in YOUR SON'S NAME, AMEN.

Ohhh, Amy. Since your updates aren't as frequent, I check in on you guys about once a month. I was getting ready to go to bed and just had this nagging feeling to "check-in" tonight even though I just did a couple weeks ago. Now I know why. Mack needs some extra prayers, and she is going right to the very top of my list. Safe travels and good wishes to all of you. The spot WILL be nothing - I just have this feeling, Amy. Praying for you all.

Amy,
I've been having one of "those weeks" at the hospital, and was looking for a document in my files. To my suprise, I found the article you wrote about your family's journeys with illness and God's healing presence. Re-reading your words was a gift today. Thank-you, as always, for being such a faithful reflection God's love. He is good, all the time. With gratitude (and a hug), Kathie

Hi Aim:

I miss you. Praying for wisdom for you for L&T with high school. We seemed to revisit/re-pray about that for Sadie almost every year for a long time.

I hope it's getting as warm in IL as it is here in MI. It was 80 yesterday. Yeah, we don't need to go away for warm weather for spring break this year.

Have been keeping up with your family and now ask for prayers for Rod's two doctor partners' daughter. She has been fighting neuroblastoma for 4 years and was diagnosed with AML today. She's been sitting with practically no infection fighting cells for months now she gets some cells and they are leukemia. Asking for protection against all germs and as she starts the high doses of chemo also going to administer in her spine to get fighting this. We have seen a miracle with Mack and the many wonders of prayer for the rest of your family. In case you have a spare prayer moment the Ardin Virnig/Patti Hook family would apprecitate. She was first diagnosed by Rod at her physical for college. She took a year off for treatment and has since been in college with all her fighting spirit trying to beat these miserable diseases.

Hi Amy:

Thanks MUCH for updating on Mackie and Linds. I will be praying about your specifics for each of your girls. The insurance thing is a total nightmare. I know from just dealing with it with one chronically ill child, it wears you out and drags you down. I still have a pile of bills (read: phone calls) I need to continue to battle through from last May. Two days, two drs appts, one x-ray and blood work = $6,000 out of pocket. How can this be?

Thankfully we know that "God's grace is sufficient to meet our every need". He has parted the Red Sea for you before with insurance, remember?

Loving you and praying tonight,
j

Anxiously awaiting some great news about Lindsay. My thoughts and prayers are always with you. I remember when my oldest had an emergency appendectomy and had to miss his 6th grade trip to Walcamp; he was so sad and disappointed. Dearest Lindsay:

I am so sad to read that you are back in the hospital. I know how disappointing it can be to miss something because you are sick. Sadie has cried many tears over missing out on something fun that we had planned, only she was sick and couldn't go.

I am praying that God will surprise you with His love and presence in your hospital room. He is right there with you. He knows your disappointment about camp and wants to comfort you.

Sadie and I are praying for you. I am thankful that you are getting the medical care you need to feel much better. Plus, you have our Great Physician tenderly watching over you.

With tons of love,

We serve an awesome God!! Joining you in your beautiful song of praise and thanksgiving.

Amy, it was beautiful to read the joy and wonder in your words tonight. Reminded me of this prayer:

"Thou art preparing joy for me and me for joy;
I pray for joy, wait for joy, long for joy;
give me more than I can hold, desire, or think of.
measure out to me my times and degrees of joy,
at my work, business, duties.
If I weep at night, give me joy in the morning.
Let me rest in the thought of thy love..."

May the joy and peace of Christ fill your hearts and home
in overflowing measure tonight!

Oh, Amy:

I am just thanking and praising our great God. I never would have dreamed that Linds could be out today. Hopefully you are already home by now and have been too busy to post. I hope our package arrived at the hospital before you guys left.

I feel like crying, thinking of Lindsay waking up, finding the tubes already out, and not having any pain.

"How great is our God".

Love to you tonight from Michigan,

Lindsay,
WOW!!! More wonderful, miraculous, amazing news about you! I'm thrilled to hear that you will be heading home later today. Won't it be nice to sleep in your own bed?? I hope your cow likes his new home. I think he'll find your bed a very comfy place to lounge around on...lazy sleepy cow! Jessica enjoyed seeing you and all of your sisters last night. She kept saying "and they're ALL taller than me!!" Except for Mack, but eventually I think she'll even pass up Jessie. Keep up the good work of healing and moving around! We are very proud of you, and continue to be amazed by the way God has made miracles happen for your family. I hope you'll always know what an inspiration the story of your special heart is to people! Love, Mrs. Shor

Wooo Hoo! I can't believe the chest tubes are out and they are even talking about sending her home. I am totally amazed at how God has smoothed the path of this surgery's journey. He is giving us a tangible example of grace and mercy. How awesome is that!! Give Linney a hug and keep us posted. We were going to come to hospital tonight - but maybe she will not be there! Lindsay,
You've remained in my prayers over the past few days. I've just now caught up on Mom's postings about your progress today. I'm in awe of the fact that you've been up and about with those chest tubes intact...I've seen lots and lots of sick kids with chest tubes, but none of them have been able to walk around!
Just another reason why you are one of my most favorite heroes. I remember thinking that when you were a little baby, and your strength, courage and smile are as beautiful today as they were then. Keep hanging in there...healing is hard work.
Know that we are all SO proud of you.
May you be blessed tonight with gentle, peace-filled sleep!

Lindsay et al, you have been on my heart as i drove home to Elgin from Woodstock tonight. Together with other friends we ripped out everything in another friend's basement due to flooding damage a couple of weeks ago. i liked having time in the quiet car to pray for you. As i get ready to hit the pillow, i will certainly ask God to move you through the removal of your chest tube exactly at the time that is best for you. May everyone of the Johnsons sleep well tonight. Lois

Hi Linds:

I am sorry about your disappointment over the chest tube. I was praying for you earlier today, asking God to make your chest stop draining. He gently reminded me that He made you, and He knows exactly what your body needs. So, I asked Him to just do whatever your body needs.

I'm so glad you were able to eat some melon. I had some today, too!

Try not to be too discouraged, dear one. I am praying for God to lift your spirits.

Hi Lindsay,
You are such a brave girl! I'm sorry your chest tube is disappointing you. Stupid chest tubes! We'll be praying it's out very very soon. Each piece of equipment you get rid of is one step closer to going home, so we'll be rejoicing as each one comes out. I'm glad you were able to eat a little today....there's nothing better than fresh melon in the summer time! I'm bringing your mom soup that she requested, so maybe she'll save a little for you when your tummy is better. I'm told I make the best homemade chicken soup around, my special recipe from an old Jewish granny.

I'm bringing you a surprise today that you haven't seen in years! Last time you knew her, I think she gave you her Barney. I wonder if you'll remember each other??? Looking forward to seeing you this evening! Love, Mrs. Shor

Amy & Steve,
You and your family were on my heart in such a strong way last week, and I wasn't sure why, but held you in my prayers. Then Heidi filled me in on the plans for Lindsay's surgery for today, and I understood those promptings to pray.

My prayers, and those of all the Koblers, will continue as this day unfolds. May the Holy Spirit fill the hearts of all involved in Lindsay's care, may His wisdom guide their minds and hands as they work for her healing.

How very appropriate that you wait through this surgery within the four walls of a building named "Hope" which is a part of a bigger place named "Christ."

May you experience Jesus' presence and peace in mighty ways, as you wait with hope and love.

I recently received a lovely old prayer book from a friend titled, "The Valley of Vision." The prayer for Monday morning seemed most fitting to share...

"Infinitely great and glorious art thou.
We are thy offspring and thy care.
Thy hands have made and fashioned us.
Thou hast watched over us with
more than parental love,
more than maternal tenderness.
Thou hast holden our soul in life,
and not suffered our feet to be moved.
Thy divine power has given us all things
necessary for life and godliness.
Let us bless thee at all times
and forget not how thou hast
forgiven our iniquities,
healed our disease,
redeemed our lives from destruction,
crowned us with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
satisfied our mouths with good things,
renewed our youth like the eagle's."

Grace & peace, Kathie

So thankful for Lindsay's sweet sleep during the waiting. Sadie prayed for Lindsay with me this a.m. and asked God to "hold back the blood". Immediately made me think of God holding back the waters of the Red Sea... we know He can do all things, don't we!

Amazingly, while I was out walking and praying for you guys, I saw a young deer just gazing at me from a cornfield. Not the time of day when I would typically see a deer, as the sun was already hot above me. Almost every time I see deer while walking (which is seldom) it is during times I am praying and asking God for something big. After seeing this one, I had the sense of the Psalm, reminding me that as the deer pants for water so my soul longs for Him. I asked God to pour that sense of refreshing water over your hearts at that moment.

Hi Amy,
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, offer your needs up to God. And the peace of God which trascends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Praying for peace to cover you all tonight, and that you'll have restful sleep this night before surgery. Thanking God for Lindsay's years of health since her last surgery, and begging him to once again surround her with His angels in the OR. Trusting in the Lord, that HE knows the good plans He has for Lindsay, and that he'll prosper her greatly. This journey is going to be another great chapter in that book that you'll write some day, Amy! I'm hoping to be there for a time tomorrow, to give you hugs and spend some time in prayer with your family. Love, Heidi

Dear Ones:

Here is part of what "Streams in the Desert" says for today, July 12:

"He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold." Job 23:10

Faith grows during storms. These are just four little words, but what significance they have to someone who has endured life-threatening storms! (You guys have endured more of these than anyone I know!)

... The strongest trees are found not in the thick shelter of the forest but out in the open, where winds from every diretion bear down upon them. The fierce winds bend and twist them until they become giant in stature. These are the trees that tool-makers seek for handles for their tools, becauseof the wood's great strength.

...when you see a person of great spiritual stature, the road you must travel to walk with him is not one where the sun always shines and wildflowers always bloom. Instead, the way is a steep, rocky, and narrow path, where the winds of hell will try to knock you off your feet, and where sharp rocks will cut you, prickly thorns will scratch your face, and poisonous snakes will slither and hiss all around you.

The path of faith is one of sorrow and joy, suffering and healing comfort, tears and smiles, trials and victories, conflicts and triumphs, and also hardships, dangers, beatings, persecutions, misunderstanding, trouble, and distress. Yet 'in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us' (Rom. 8:37).

Yes, 'in all these' - even during storms, when the winds are the most intense - 'we are more than conquerors.' You may be tempted to run from the ordeal of a fierce storm of testing, but head straight for it! God is there to meet you in the center of each trial. And He will whisper to you His secrets, which will bring you out with a radiant face and such an invincible faith that all the demons of hell will never be able to shake it."

This seemed to be written specifically for you guys today! In the 14 years that I have known you, I have seen you stand strong in the storms of life and cling with tenacity to Jesus Christ. He will see you through tomorrow, as He has all the other surgeries and scary times.

Love you all dearly, praying all the time!

Hi Amy,
Sorry to hear that you guys are still hanging in limbo waiting for answers to everything. I know that God has a perfect plan in mind, just waiting to unfold. The waiting is always the hard part, as we can only see the messy side of the cross stitch pattern He's weaving, not the beautiful picture. Trusting always that He's got Linny's best interest in mind!

I hope you had a great time up north, and had better weather than the coolness we've had here lately. Hey, I got an email from Student Impact at Willow....they've got 700 campers going away to high school camp and they have no nurse. Ya looking for a job??? Sounds perfect for you, my friend, now that you know everything there is to know about those quirky teenage years. So if things don't pan out for Lindsay needing surgery, maybe you'd like to get away for a relaxing week with 700 needy teens??? :)
Love you!

Agh Aim... I'm so sorry to read this update. Aim... offically, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Had to also head back to tell you I can't stop looking at these pics,(and sobbing giant happy tears)! I flash back two years ago... Typical of that rollercoaster time, there was so much chaos on one particular day ... yet, only hope and happiness ruled in Mack's "hopal" room. I'll never forget a tired, swollen little Mack and a totally love-struck Jake playing very "one-sided" games of Pirana. Yeah, we knew he was ready to marry her right then and there ... SO can YOU imagine his blushing face when he saw these pics? Whoa baby! PRICELESS!

Sharing Mack's miracle has been the greatest joy in our lives! Words can't even begin to express the joy Jay, Casey, Jake, and I hold with you guys when we saw these pics. (Seriously, the calm in your eyes makes you look even younger! Ha!)

Mack's story is all about faith and how something as simple as JUST BEING ASKED to donate cord blood becomes literally a life changing moment. As huge as it is, people are STILL clueless - but ...FINALLY... there are some rumblings, even commercials for the national cord blood bank. Although it isn't from the giving approach WE KNOW would change the face of childhood cancer, there is AWARENESS! All they REALLY need to bring this simple miracle of life to the national spotlight is to flash the healthy face of a perfectly glowing little princess and her "too cute" yet still effective mommy/spokeswoman... See picture on home page ;-)....

Lub,hugs,tisses and SUPER DUPER misses!

PS ... before this campaign for miracles can begin, ...the princess and her mommy would need a handsome daddy to drive them cuz mommy's always gettin' lost... AND adding 4 gorgeous sisters would land them on the cover of People! Hey - look at the past two years, Fairytales come true... <3

Dear Amy, I have been lurking several times a week on your website and praying daily for protection of the Johnson family. Happy happy birthday to you, Steve and the twins and just happy happy for the rest of the family in all their accomplishment this past year. To God be the glory.

We are praying for calmness at the grand Celestial Ball. Now is not the time to be speechless Amy!!!! I know God has allowed you many amazing experiences in your life, but being speechless is not a good trait in your next budding profession. Just kidding. Have fun.

I have not beenable to use our home computer for almost three weeks now, so my time to check in and post is more limited. Praying very much for May 16. And for our treasure Mackie. Hi Amy,
So glad to hear that all went well in Cinci this week! God has been so good and so gracious to your family. I can't believe it's been eleven years since Lindsay's surgery....how time passes. I'll be praying that her results come back as amazingly wonderful as Mack's have. Sorry I didn't call you for our lunch date this week. We ended up getting stranded in Minnesota on our spring break ski trip when two feet of snow got dumped on us! I guess if you gotta be stuck in a snowstorm, on a ski hill is the place to be. Well, call me the next time you have a day or two free and we'll make plans to meet. Hugs and kisses to you and Steve and all those beautiful ladies you are growing up over there! Love, Heidi

Thanks for putting it so eloquently once again in your writings! Your entries are often like a mini devotional for me! So thankful provisions were made for Mackenzie to be able to have the treatment the doctors feel is important! Safe travels this coming week.

Awesome news! Praise God! I know just how you feel. I think we all struggle with the "control" thing. Thank God he is so patient with us and so gracious despite our lack of trust and vision at times. I often think I should never doubt after all the miracles I have seen, but we are fallen and just like the Nation of Israel in the Bible, we forget so easily! Let us always remember and be thankful! Praying He will continue to provide and bless you all.

When Randy had his packing removed, he said it felt like his brains were coming out of his nostrils. I guess that's similar to your comment. Of course, Randy's never given birth, so he would not easily come to that analogy. :)

Hi Mackie:

Do you know how thankful I am that you are healthy and at home for Thanksgiving? Very very thankful! And, that Linds'heart and Sadie's liver are healthy, too! Yeah, God!

You are too little to remember this, but your Grandma reminded your mommy about this verse in the Psalms, when you were oh-so-very sick. It says:

"Though You have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again." Psalm 71:20

That's exactly what God has done for you, Mackenzie. He has restored your life again.

I love you. Tell all your sisters Happy Thanksgiving from me and Sadie, okay?

Janie

Hi Aim:

Last night Randy took me to a Selah concert. Although I didn't really feel well, I knew it would be good to go. One of their last songs was "You Raise me up". It reminded me of how years ago I typed the words to that song on Mack's page.

As they belted out that song last night, my heart overflowed with thankfulness to our great God, who truly has "raised you up" (along with Steve and all your girls) and carried you on His shoulders.

"You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on Your shoulders,
You raise me up, to more than I can be."

Praising God this morning for all He has done in your lives.

Sadie's having lots of fun emailing the girls. :)

Love you all,

wow. what beautiful photos. Mackie, you are just plain growing up! I hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow. Our family loves you sooo much!

Aim, you are right. An IV start on the first try is a gift and nothing to take for granted. Sadie still talks about the time it took nine tries. I had blood drawn Saturday and Sadie prayed for me just before the stick. What a blessing.

Thanks for putting into words your gratitude and reflection over so many of the "steps" of Mack's transplant. There are so many teensy details that our great God has overseen.

I am listening to Chris Tomlin's Amazing Grace right now. It's the perfect song to surround your words.

Love you much,

hi Mack

Today Mrs. Guthrie and I went to Chili’s for lunch to meet Carson Higgins, one of our Pen Pals who lives in St. Louis. Today is Create-a-Pepper Day with proceeds going to St. Jude’s Hospital, We made a “beautiful” pepper for you! We left it at the restaurant, so that it could be displayed for all the diners to see. We took a picture, and hopefully it will turn out. We’ll send you a copy when we get them back.... I just have an old fashioned camera. Next year we are going to take our own crayons and markers so that our peppers will really be great!

Hey Steelgirl Mack - you are certainly tougher than any steel we make at my company, AK Steel, and we make some pretty hard stuff. My name is Hans, and we've not met, but I got to meet your mom, dad, and sisters last year when they came to Cincinnati and got to see a Reds game in our company's suite. What a great family you have, and how lucky you are to have such a wonderful and supportive network around you.

I too am part of a family that has dealt with blood cancers. My mom was diagnozed with A.M.L. on Christmas Eve in 1999, and I don't need to tell you or anyone in the Johnson clan what a bummer that was. But, here is the great news. She received a stem cell transplant from her younger brother in 2001, and just celebrated her 75th birthday with a wonderful trip to Alaska.

Why am I writing you now, you ask? I've been touched by the amazing care you've received, the never-ending support from your family, and continue to pray to God that you will continue to fight and beat the A.L.L.

I am also part of a group called Team in Training (TNT)that raises funds so that research into an ultimate cure can continue to be funded. As part of TNT, I will be participating with a group of runners (and walkers like me)in the Chicago marathon next month. While I have a personal hero, a man named Brad who works for me and has CML, as well as several other heroes including my mom, I hope it's OK with you that I carry your name and my favorite two sayings (P.U.S.H. and P.U.L.L.) on my TNT jersey as well. That way, you'll be with me every step of the way!

Know that I'll be thinking about you and all who are fighting Leukemia or Lymphoma, and will keep being active until we find a cure and this cancer is beaten for good.

Hope you're feeling better, and that your cold goes away soon. Most importantly, may His peace always be with you.

Hans

Dear Amy, I too have been quiet for a time but have been lifting the Johnson's in prayer. Wow, what a trip you have been on with all the health issues.
Since not hearing from you for awhile, I was perhaps thinking you were asked and considering a position as a vice-presidental running mate. But then McCain picked Sara Palin so I knew that wasn't holding up your caringbridge entries. Just kidding. I think this country could use someone whose head is connected to their heart though. I just pray and am assured that God is in control of America.
I praise God that life is a little normal for you guys. That is special that Steve can take Mack for the checkup. It will be good. If I recall, Steve is a girls basketball coach and our son also coachs varsity girls basketball. It takes a special person.
Mack also cracks me up with her sayings. My goodness, she is thinning out, you better tell her not to eat to many ribs then. She is soooo sweet eating those ribs in that pic. Speaking of pics, you need to be posting new school pics of the fab five. Take care and enjoy the fall weather coming up. Blessings, Colette

Again, your writing paints a perfect picture of Mack taking charge and fearlessly making that big first step onto the bus and off to school!... A beginning, the beginning we all prayed for. God is good, "sooooo good".

We know He will continue to be there to protect Mack and we know He will hold Lindsay extra close too!... But here's the question: Will He be there when you effortlessly blend into a crowd of crazy tweens while standing on your seat dancing and screamming along to "Lovebug" ... HA! Heck yeah He will!

Amy-
You are such a gifted writer! The article was awesome. But I've been telling you that for almost 5 years now. Mackenzie is such a little cutie-pie!!! She's changed a lot even since I last saw her in the spring. Which reminds me how long it's been and how much we miss you :(. God's timing, as always, is perfect in having this article in the Chapel magazine. Just yesterday I left a message on a Caringbridge page of a little 6 year old from the Chapel who was just diagnosed with Epitheleal Sarcoma. I told them all about Mackenzie and referred them to your Caringbridge site. Who knew that Mack would be on the cover of the Chapel magazine the very next day? Oh yeah, God did. Anyway, we miss you more than words can say and we need a taco-dip, movie-watching, video-game playing, hanging out together night ASAP!!!!!!!!
I love you my friend, and I am so excited for Mack's journey into kindergarten. Joel started high school this week. Oy! And every day he hops into the car with Kara behind the wheel and off they go...

Hi Amy & Steve!
Praising God tonight with you for his wonderful provision and care of Mackenzie. Sure sounds to me like you've got 2 girls with those "special" hearts. I'll be praying that your entire stay goes as smoothly as today did, and that you'll be on your way home asap. How good our great God is...He NEVER lets go. Rest tonight in His very capable hands, my friends! Love, Heidi

Sweet Lord, I thank you for being in control. I thank you for guiding the doctor as you showed him how to get the stents through to give our Mackie life saving blood. I thank you for the fact that there won't be any side effects. For the fact that new miracles are coming as you show the scientific world Who you are and how strong your love for this beautiful little girl is. You are the Ultimate Healer and as such I thank you, I ask, claim and Believe that Mackie won't need anymore surgeries, that her heart will loosen and be soft like it should be. That her heart beat like it should and she will continue to grow and blossom in the new life you have given her. I thank you for you and your angels as they surround and give comfort, peace and strength to the whole family.
God bless and love,

Dearest Aim:

Mitchell, Elliott and I just prayed together for Mackie. I know our great God, who parted the Red Sea, is more than able to part the obstruction to allow that catheter to pass through. As Moses told the children of Israel, when they were backed up to the Red Sea and the Egyptians were closing in on them, "Remain calm; the Lord will fight for you." Exodus 14:14.

God fights today for our Mackenzie Lee.

On my knees for you,

Hi Amy,
I was sorry to hear that Mackie has to endure yet another procedure! I'll be praying for angels to surround all of you, both in the cath lab and in the waiting room. Mackie, you just go to sleep and play with Jesus, baby! I hope he whispers sweet dreams in your ear, all about starting school. It will seem like no time before that morning comes and you are there for real wearing your backpack and heading off just like your big sisters! Amy, I can't believe the summer has flown by and we have yet to reconnect. Someday, soon! Remember, God knows the plans he has for Mackenzie, good plans of love and safety, that will lead her off to school next week. He holds you all in the palm of his hand...the very BEST place to be. You know you can call me any time if you need an update posted. I'd be glad to do that for you. Love you! Heidi

I am praying in Michigan...but you already knew that didn't you!
I took the kids to the beach today, and since it was a nice calm day with no waves to speak of, I was able to grab a few minutes of reading in between my scans to confirm all my kids were still afloat. I'm reading A Place of Quiet Rest by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Your post brought to mind what I read, so I thought I'd post it here..

The chapter is called "A Day in the Life of the Lord" and is taken from Mark 1 beginning in verse 21. Jesus' day begins with teaching...like no other they had heard. What preparation went into that? It continues in vs23-27 with Jesus confronting evil. (DeMoss reminds us that we too are in the midst of a battle and that in the course of being a wife, mother, friend, etc.you will find yourself in the midst of difficult, strenuous demanding situations where you have to be alert to the schemes of Satan and skilled in using the sword of the Spirit to fight off his attacks. There is a natural drain that is a part of being God's servant in these situations) Jesus then leaves to go back to the disciples home and finds he is needed there to heal Simon's mother-in-law. Finally at sunset (instead of finally being able to rest) scripture tells us that the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon possessed and that the whole town gathered at the door....and He healed many who had various diseases and drove out may demons. The author then asks the question, "How did He do it? How did He stay sane? how did He keep meeting the needs of so many people without falling apart Himself?" Yes, He was God, but He was also a man who got tired, hungry etc.

She believes the answer to those questions can be found in vs.35. "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed"
He knew it was essential to stay connected with His father for that was His source of life, joy, power, peace and fruitfulness. For Jesus, time alone w/ God was not an option or something He tacked on to an overcrowded schedule. It was the highest priority of His life.
The gospel of Luke tells us that "Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed" (Luke5:16) This was the pattern of His life...where He got His "marching orders" for the day...where He discovered the will of God for His life..where He got renewed and restored when virtue had gone our of Him as He ministered to the crowds. This is where He gained the resources to do battle against Satan and win.
This is where He stepped back from the corruption, clutter, and clamor of life on this earth and was given the ability to see the world from God's point of view.

And this is precisely where you and I so often miss out on all that God has for us. Unlike Jesus, we attempt to live life in our own energy. We think we can keep giving out without getting replenished. Then, wearied and weakened by the demands of life and ministry, we become impatient and annoyed with the very ones God has sent us to serve. Rather than exhibiting a gracious, calm, joyous spirit, we become uptight, frazzled, and frenzied women, resenting, rather than welcoming, the people and opportunities God brings into our lives.
Is it really possible for us to manifest the same spirit Jesus did when facing pressure? That all depends on whether we are willing to make the same choice He made, to adopt His number one priority as the number one priority of our lives:
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed (Mark1:35)

Whew, that was long...sorry!...and now I must go off to bed so that I can get up early...because when I try to fit some quiet time with the Lord in during my day, my day just squeezes Him out. I'm so preaching to myself here.
Night Aim,
Much love,
Beth

Kelly:

Thanks for sharing Boey's website. I read her dad's entry "Blessed by Cancer". As a mom who has spent much time in the hospital, holding back Sadie's hair, wiping vomit, his entry touched me deeply. Yet, even those of us with medically "fragile" kids can slip into the busyness of life and forget how precious the ordinary moments are.

Aim, I rejoice at Mack's great report. Isn't it so fun to go back and see doctors from the vantage point of being healthy and home?! Those reunions are joy-filled and wonderful. Saturday night at Sadie's transplant party in Chicago, we had such a great time connecting with her doctors, who have known her for all of her 14 years. One of them told her, "I used to carry you around", and now she is 14! In fact, Friday (May 2) is the 14th anniversary of Sadie's transplant. It's a day we never take for granted.

Can you believe that you and I have three "miracle girls" between the two of us!! God has blessed us so richly ... not just with the temporary destination of "health", but even more with His care and blessings during the journey.

Love you, Amy!!!!

ps Debbie: Pooper Scooper Barbie is still around. She has joined the ranks of many other "unclothed" Barbies in our home. Many have disjointed hips from doing the "splits" so many times. Even the ones missing their
heads are much-loved and could never be thrown away. :)

Amy,
Hi there! Words always seem so inadequate when I check up on Mack. It is amazing the difference a year can make and when you let the Lord carry you through, amazing does not seem an adequate word to describe the blessings He brings. I am so happy to see the pictures of Mack looking healthy and smiling. I am thrilled to hear that your job is perfect. Your family's journey is so profound and the blessings you have received bring joy to my heart. May God continue to rain down His love and abundance on you and all who believe and hope in His power.
Love to all,
Allison

Amy -
I have been checking Boey's website periodically. Today, God led me there and I read her dad's entry - Blessed by Cancer. I would recommend that every parent with a healthy child read his eloquent words. He is a beautiful writer and his entry was the most impactful description of why we should take time for the seemingly unimportant things in life. I read it after a day of soccer, birthday parties, CYT practice, etc. and it reminded me that being busy isn't always part of God's perfect plan for our lives. The website is www.jenessabyers.com for anyone who wants to check it out. Bring your kleenex....

We're thrilled for Mack's continued blessing of good health.

Dear Amy, thank you so much for updating. We can just give all the praise to our wonderful Savior this Sunday morning. I am so thankful He kept you going thru all this - wow, it is above my comprehension the hours and miles you have put in the last couple years (mentally and physically). Thank you Jesus for making Amy as strong as Mac. I am anxious to see what He has in store for the future. Blessings, Colette

Reading Amy's entry this morning and compelled to give many thanks. Dr. Mike, you are SO right, SOOOOO RIGHT! ;-)

HOPE FOR MACKENZIE!

Maybe it's that one year miracle milestone and maybe it's nothing more than Mack is the coolest kid on the planet ... but I join Linda and Jane in remembering the closeness of our cyber waiting room over-filled with love, floating butterflies, Peeps, Peavy Lake, Jan, Marcia, Marcia, Marcia, and the ever infamous "Pooper Scooper Barbie" (hi sadie!) ... we came expecting ONLY to lighten the load for Amy and Steve - and LOOK at ALL each of us got in return. WOW! To borrow a quote, "It's a GOD thing!" ... and I for one, LUB how HE works!

Sending YA'LL are always in my heart HUGS,

HI Mack
CSftAI'sS hit Borders this weekend
with a special signing by Ozzie Smith
(Cardinals baseball) and his son Nikko
who was on Am. Idol. And I reread your
chapter, and, of course, cried again. I
was telling two of my friends at my b-day
dinner about you and Ace. And one knew who
Ace is, and she said she was going to buy the book
for me.
I thought that was pretty exciting!

happy to hear that your Mom loves her job.

prayers for all to go well in Ohio.

What a miracle your daughter is! I've been reading this page so long, it is absolutely incredible that she no longer has health crises, that she is finally able to be a typical child, and that soon she'll start school. Amazing.

Hi Aim:

Sure was great to read your newest post. I'm praying for an uneventful trip to Cinci. And for Linds's heart, too.

Linda, I was just thinking, before checking Mackie's page, the very things you wrote. I miss the camaraderie of our postings/checking in on Mackie's page, but I am so very thankful that she is doing so incredibly well and we don't have the urgency of crisis keeping us all at this page so often anymore.

Glad you love your new job. I'm sure you are very busy.
Thankful that Lindsay just had that one arrhythmia. Praying there will be no more.

Gotta run,
Love ya-

Hello to all. I realize we don't come here everyday like we did a year ago. Good news doesn't grab us the same way as the stress does, I guess. BUT, I'm sure we all remain thankful. So sorry about Lois' news, but I am sure the Lord is holding her close as she goes through this time. Life is full of challenges and surprises, isn't it? Please say hello to Mariyn. I miss her lovely posts. And hello to everyone else out there! I'm still around!

Hi Mackenzie
Happy Official USA National Tartan Day!
Yesterday the Preschoolers marched in the
Tartan Day Parade as the McZion Nessie Fan Clan.
You can see our photos on Ashlee Poland's caringbridge page.
Ashlee is from Oklahoma, and had a double lung transplant in
St. Louis last November. She went home just before Easter, but
was back here having her wisdom teeth pulled. And she and her
grandmother Mormor SURPRISED us by coming to the parade. I
can't tell you how thrilled I was to finally meet them. They are
both so beautiful and delightful.

It's been awhile since you've heard from us Peavey Lake relatives in MN. All had been going well and we have enjoyed this miracle called Mack! Unfortunately we got the news we were not hoping to hear after Rod's mom's PET scan was done today. She has advanced metastatic cancer in her abdomen, chest, bones, spine and looks like around her pancreas. Kind of came out of the blue so we are all surprised to hear the news. Lois decided to cancel her cruise to the Panama Canal. We now hold Lois up in prayer. Marilyn is at a bass tournament this weekend. Last weekend Rod's brother and sis and other family came up and we had a wonderful weekend together supporting Lois. She has chosen not do any treatment as would only prolong the inevitable. So we are on bended knee and come asking the Lord for his blessings. We celebrate the awesomeness of Him in healing Mack and ask Him to watch over Lois giving her strength in Him in the days to come. Just thought you, your family,(and Caringbridge friends)would want to know. Lois is strong in her faith and looks forward to meeting her Lord and Savior probably sooner than later.
In His love,

Judy Hayes

Happy Easter!
Found this prayer on another site and just had to share it!

Easter Prayer:

Glory and praise to You, Risen Savior,
for You bring light to our darkness, joy to our sorrow,
and the fullness of love to our reluctant hearts.
Once and for all You have conquered sin and evil.
In the glory of Your Resurrection we have been
set free from all that keeps us
from following You.
On this Easter Day,
fill our hearts with Your Light and Grace
that we might joyfully echo the words of
Your Holy Angels:
He is not here in the tomb:
He is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen
