I've been following your story on this page for 2 1/2 years, as I found it though one of the Ace Young fansites back when he was first on American Idol. Its so great to see that you are continuing to do well! :) Shows what the power of prayer can accomplish! Hope you enjoyed the holidays! Take care!

Hi:

Thanks for updating so quickly. It's so nice to be able to hear right away how things have gone. I am sad to know the IV start was a tough one. Makes me want to cry, sometimes. Praying for Mackie right now. Tell the "Cannonball Queen" I wish I could see her splashing around. :) I can picture her, though, and it puts a hu-uge smile on my face.

With love and prayers - always,

Hi Mackie:

Do you know how thankful I am that you are healthy and at home for Thanksgiving? Very very thankful! And, that Linds'heart and Sadie's liver are healthy, too! Yeah, God!

You are too little to remember this, but your Grandma reminded your mommy about this verse in the Psalms, when you were oh-so-very sick. It says:

"Though You have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again." Psalm 71:20

That's exactly what God has done for you, Mackenzie. He has restored your life again.

I love you. Tell all your sisters Happy Thanksgiving from me and Sadie, okay?

Hi Aim:

Last night Randy took me to a Selah concert. Although I didn't really feel well, I knew it would be good to go. One of their last songs was "You Raise me up". It reminded me of how years ago I typed the words to that song on Mack's page.

As they belted out that song last night, my heart overflowed with thankfulness to our great God, who truly has "raised you up" (along with Steve and all your girls) and carried you on His shoulders.

"You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on Your shoulders,
You raise me up, to more than I can be."

Praising God this morning for all He has done in your lives.

Sadie's having lots of fun emailing the girls. :)

Love you all,

wow. what beautiful photos. Mackie, you are just plain growing up! I hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow. Our family loves you sooo much!

Aim, you are right. An IV start on the first try is a gift and nothing to take for granted. Sadie still talks about the time it took nine tries. I had blood drawn Saturday and Sadie prayed for me just before the stick. What a blessing.

Thanks for putting into words your gratitude and reflection over so many of the "steps" of Mack's transplant. There are so many teensy details that our great God has overseen.

I am listening to Chris Tomlin's Amazing Grace right now. It's the perfect song to surround your words.

Love you much,

hi Mack

Today Mrs. Guthrie and I went to Chili’s for lunch to meet Carson Higgins, one of our Pen Pals who lives in St. Louis. Today is Create-a-Pepper Day with proceeds going to St. Jude’s Hospital, We made a “beautiful” pepper for you! We left it at the restaurant, so that it could be displayed for all the diners to see. We took a picture, and hopefully it will turn out. We’ll send you a copy when we get them back.... I just have an old fashioned camera. Next year we are going to take our own crayons and markers so that our peppers will really be great!

Hey Steelgirl Mack - you are certainly tougher than any steel we make at my company, AK Steel, and we make some pretty hard stuff. My name is Hans, and we've not met, but I got to meet your mom, dad, and sisters last year when they came to Cincinnati and got to see a Reds game in our company's suite. What a great family you have, and how lucky you are to have such a wonderful and supportive network around you.

I too am part of a family that has dealt with blood cancers. My mom was diagnozed with A.M.L. on Christmas Eve in 1999, and I don't need to tell you or anyone in the Johnson clan what a bummer that was. But, here is the great news. She received a stem cell transplant from her younger brother in 2001, and just celebrated her 75th birthday with a wonderful trip to Alaska.

Why am I writing you now, you ask? I've been touched by the amazing care you've received, the never-ending support from your family, and continue to pray to God that you will continue to fight and beat the A.L.L.

I am also part of a group called Team in Training (TNT)that raises funds so that research into an ultimate cure can continue to be funded. As part of TNT, I will be participating with a group of runners (and walkers like me)in the Chicago marathon next month. While I have a personal hero, a man named Brad who works for me and has CML, as well as several other heroes including my mom, I hope it's OK with you that I carry your name and my favorite two sayings (P.U.S.H. and P.U.L.L.) on my TNT jersey as well. That way, you'll be with me every step of the way!

Know that I'll be thinking about you and all who are fighting Leukemia or Lymphoma, and will keep being active until we find a cure and this cancer is beaten for good.

Hope you're feeling better, and that your cold goes away soon. Most importantly, may His peace always be with you.

Hans

Dear Amy, I too have been quiet for a time but have been lifting the Johnson's in prayer. Wow, what a trip you have been on with all the health issues.
Since not hearing from you for awhile, I was perhaps thinking you were asked and considering a position as a vice-presidental running mate. But then McCain picked Sara Palin so I knew that wasn't holding up your caringbridge entries. Just kidding. I think this country could use someone whose head is connected to their heart though. I just pray and am assured that God is in control of America.
I praise God that life is a little normal for you guys. That is special that Steve can take Mack for the checkup. It will be good. If I recall, Steve is a girls basketball coach and our son also coachs varsity girls basketball. It takes a special person.
Mack also cracks me up with her sayings. My goodness, she is thinning out, you better tell her not to eat to many ribs then. She is soooo sweet eating those ribs in that pic. Speaking of pics, you need to be posting new school pics of the fab five. Take care and enjoy the fall weather coming up. Blessings, Colette

Aim... thanks girl, now I am a mascara mess.

Again, your writing paints a perfect picture of Mack taking charge and fearlessly making that big first step onto the bus and off to school!... A beginning, the beginning we all prayed for. God is good, "sooooo good".

We know He will continue to be there to protect Mack and we know He will hold Lindsay extra close too!... But here's the question: Will He be there when you effortlessly blend into a crowd of crazy tweens while standing on your seat dancing and screamming along to "Lovebug" ... HA! Heck yeah He will!

Have fun ... been there done that with ya, and I know you'll all make it memorable. LUB n TISSES...

Aw Mack, I can't believe you're in kindergarten already!! You're growing up so fast. Have fun. I'm so proud of you.

And Kali must be SO excited!! Haha. I remember at the Superchick concert, she had her Joe Jonas shirt on and she proudly announced to everyone around, including the security guard, and KJ-52, that she loved Joe Jonas. It was hilarious.

Hope you guys have fun at the concert. And I'll be praying for Linds. I miss you guys sooo much!! Hope to see you soon!

Oh, Mackenzie:

How I would love to see you getting on the bus, wearing your backpack. I am soooo proud of you.

Miss Linds, I am so thankful that you have an alarm you can wear, if you ever feel concerned about your heart. I keep praying for your heart.

Kali, have an awesome time at the concert, celebrating your birthday.

Love you all,

Hi Amy,
I'm just now catching up, as I was away last week. Wow, wow, wow! We serve an Awesome God! Praising Him for His faithfulness to sweet Mack, and for working through you too. The article is wonderful and ministered to me today in ways I cannot fully yet capture in words. With deep respect, Kathie

Amy,
The article you wrote was wonderful! I see it as a great start to that book I know you have living inside your heart :) I'm looking forward to hearing all about Mackenzie's adventures in school. Hope she keeps her clothes on, and doesn't follow in some of her big sister's shoes! Hugs to my best friend Lexi...she probably doesn't even remember me anymore!

I've got two "freshman" this year....Steve starts at Harper on the 25th, and baby Jessie (turning 15 tomorrow!) is off to highschool on the 20th. Where has the time gone???

Hope we can connect soon. Jeanette's idea of movies and taco dip sounds good...maybe I'll have to crash the party! Love, Heidi

Amy-
You are such a gifted writer! The article was awesome. But I've been telling you that for almost 5 years now. Mackenzie is such a little cutie-pie!!! She's changed a lot even since I last saw her in the spring. Which reminds me how long it's been and how much we miss you :(. God's timing, as always, is perfect in having this article in the Chapel magazine. Just yesterday I left a message on a Caringbridge page of a little 6 year old from the Chapel who was just diagnosed with Epitheleal Sarcoma. I told them all about Mackenzie and referred them to your Caringbridge site. Who knew that Mack would be on the cover of the Chapel magazine the very next day? Oh yeah, God did. Anyway, we miss you more than words can say and we need a taco-dip, movie-watching, video-game playing, hanging out together night ASAP!!!!!!!!
I love you my friend, and I am so excited for Mack's journey into kindergarten. Joel started high school this week. Oy! And every day he hops into the car with Kara behind the wheel and off they go...
Let's talk soon, okay?

Sweet Lord, I thank you for being in control. I thank you for guiding the doctor as you showed him how to get the stents through to give our Mackie life saving blood. I thank you for the fact that there won't be any side effects. For the fact that new miracles are coming as you show the scientific world Who you are and how strong your love for this beautiful little girl is. You are the Ultimate Healer and as such I thank you, I ask, claim and Believe that Mackie won't need anymore surgeries, that her heart will loosen and be soft like it should be. That her heart beat like it should and she will continue to grow and blossom in the new life you have given her. I thank you for you and your angels as they surround and give comfort, peace and strength to the whole family.
God bless and love,

Dearest Aim:

Mitchell, Elliott and I just prayed together for Mackie. I know our great God, who parted the Red Sea, is more than able to part the obstruction to allow that catheter to pass through. As Moses told the children of Israel, when they were backed up to the Red Sea and the Egyptians were closing in on them, "Remain calm; the Lord will fight for you." Exodus 14:14.

God fights today for our Mackenzie Lee.

Hi Amy,
I was sorry to hear that Mackie has to endure yet another procedure! I'll be praying for angels to surround all of you, both in the cath lab and in the waiting room. Mackie, you just go to sleep and play with Jesus, baby! I hope he whispers sweet dreams in your ear, all about starting school. It will seem like no time before that morning comes and you are there for real wearing your backpack and heading off just like your big sisters! Amy, I can't believe the summer has flown by and we have yet to reconnect. Someday, soon! Remember, God knows the plans he has for Mackenzie, good plans of love and safety, that will lead her off to school next week. He holds you all in the palm of his hand...the very BEST place to be. You know you can call me any time if you need an update posted. I'd be glad to do that for you. Love you! Heidi

I am praying in Michigan...but you already knew that didn't you!
I took the kids to the beach today, and since it was a nice calm day with no waves to speak of, I was able to grab a few minutes of reading in between my scans to confirm all my kids were still afloat. I'm reading A Place of Quiet Rest by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Your post brought to mind what I read, so I thought I'd post it here..

The chapter is called "A Day in the Life of the Lord" and is taken from Mark 1 beginning in verse 21. Jesus' day begins with teaching...like no other they had heard. What preparation went into that? It continues in vs23-27 with Jesus confronting evil. (DeMoss reminds us that we too are in the midst of a battle and that in the course of being a wife, mother, friend, etc.you will find yourself in the midst of difficult, strenuous demanding situations where you have to be alert to the schemes of Satan and skilled in using the sword of the Spirit to fight off his attacks. There is a natural drain that is a part of being God's servant in these situations) Jesus then leaves to go back to the disciples home and finds he is needed there to heal Simon's mother-in-law. Finally at sunset (instead of finally being able to rest) scripture tells us that the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon possessed and that the whole town gathered at the door....and He healed many who had various diseases and drove out may demons. The author then asks the question, "How did He do it? How did He stay sane? how did He keep meeting the needs of so many people without falling apart Himself?" Yes, He was God, but He was also a man who got tired, hungry etc.

She believes the answer to those questions can be found in vs.35. "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed"
He knew it was essential to stay connected with His father for that was His source of life, joy, power, peace and fruitfulness. For Jesus, time alone w/ God was not an option or something He tacked on to an overcrowded schedule. It was the highest priority of His life.
The gospel of Luke tells us that "Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed" (Luke5:16) This was the pattern of His life...where He got His "marching orders" for the day...where He discovered the will of God for His life..where He got renewed and restored when virtue had gone our of Him as He ministered to the crowds. This is where He gained the resources to do battle against Satan and win.
This is where He stepped back from the corruption, clutter, and clamor of life on this earth and was given the ability to see the world from God's point of view.

And this is precisely where you and I so often miss out on all that God has for us. Unlike Jesus, we attempt to live life in our own energy. We think we can keep giving out without getting replenished. Then, wearied and weakened by the demands of life and ministry, we become impatient and annoyed with the very ones God has sent us to serve. Rather than exhibiting a gracious, calm, joyous spirit, we become uptight, frazzled, and frenzied women, resenting, rather than welcoming, the people and opportunities God brings into our lives.
Is it really possible for us to manifest the same spirit Jesus did when facing pressure? That all depends on whether we are willing to make the same choice He made, to adopt His number one priority as the number one priority of our lives:
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed (Mark1:35)

Whew, that was long...sorry!...and now I must go off to bed so that I can get up early...because when I try to fit some quiet time with the Lord in during my day, my day just squeezes Him out. I'm so preaching to myself here.
Night Aim,
Much love,
Beth

It's amazing how things seem to fall into place. When someone needed to have an eagle eye watching over Mackenzie's medical needs, who better than the mom who happens to be a nurse? If Mackenzie needs special support due to learning disabilities, who better than the dad who just happens to be the special education department chair?

Happy New Cell Birthday Mack! I can't believe it has been a year. As you know, at times it has seemed to be endless, but now seems to have passed so quickly (in a strange way)... I am speechless at how awesome God is and at what a miracle Mackenzie's life is. It is a great reminder that God is the ultimate physician and, as you have said so many times Amy, that our faith is not in the numbers or statistics - Mack is living proof of that! We look forward to our "birthday" celebration this Sunday and praise God that Hannah is also doing well! Love to you all, Mei Ling & Family

It sounds like there's been a lot of partying at your place lately and for good reason! I can't believe those twins of yours are teenagers! Consider this your card...I didn't get one in the mail for you, sorry sister. I will be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping that you have a great day and an even better year! Love to you all.

Kelly:

Thanks for sharing Boey's website. I read her dad's entry "Blessed by Cancer". As a mom who has spent much time in the hospital, holding back Sadie's hair, wiping vomit, his entry touched me deeply. Yet, even those of us with medically "fragile" kids can slip into the busyness of life and forget how precious the ordinary moments are.

Aim, I rejoice at Mack's great report. Isn't it so fun to go back and see doctors from the vantage point of being healthy and home?! Those reunions are joy-filled and wonderful. Saturday night at Sadie's transplant party in Chicago, we had such a great time connecting with her doctors, who have known her for all of her 14 years. One of them told her, "I used to carry you around", and now she is 14! In fact, Friday (May 2) is the 14th anniversary of Sadie's transplant. It's a day we never take for granted.

Can you believe that you and I have three "miracle girls" between the two of us!! God has blessed us so richly ... not just with the temporary destination of "health", but even more with His care and blessings during the journey.

Love you, Amy!!!!

jane

ps Debbie: Pooper Scooper Barbie is still around. She has joined the ranks of many other "unclothed" Barbies in our home. Many have disjointed hips from doing the "splits" so many times. Even the ones missing their
heads are much-loved and could never be thrown away. :)

Amy,
Hi there! Words always seem so inadequate when I check up on Mack. It is amazing the difference a year can make and when you let the Lord carry you through, amazing does not seem an adequate word to describe the blessings He brings. I am so happy to see the pictures of Mack looking healthy and smiling. I am thrilled to hear that your job is perfect. Your family's journey is so profound and the blessings you have received bring joy to my heart. May God continue to rain down His love and abundance on you and all who believe and hope in His power.
Love to all,
Allison

Amy -
I have been checking Boey's website periodically. Today, God led me there and I read her dad's entry - Blessed by Cancer. I would recommend that every parent with a healthy child read his eloquent words. He is a beautiful writer and his entry was the most impactful description of why we should take time for the seemingly unimportant things in life. I read it after a day of soccer, birthday parties, CYT practice, etc. and it reminded me that being busy isn't always part of God's perfect plan for our lives. The website is www.jenessabyers.com for anyone who wants to check it out. Bring your kleenex....

We're thrilled for Mack's continued blessing of good health.

Dear Amy, thank you so much for updating. We can just give all the praise to our wonderful Savior this Sunday morning. I am so thankful He kept you going thru all this - wow, it is above my comprehension the hours and miles you have put in the last couple years (mentally and physically). Thank you Jesus for making Amy as strong as Mac. I am anxious to see what He has in store for the future. Blessings, Colette

Reading Amy's entry this morning and compelled to give many thanks. Dr. Mike, you are SO right, SOOOOO RIGHT! ;-)

HOPE FOR MACKENZIE!

Maybe it's that one year miracle milestone and maybe it's nothing more than Mack is the coolest kid on the planet ... but I join Linda and Jane in remembering the closeness of our cyber waiting room over-filled with love, floating butterflies, Peeps, Peavy Lake, Jan, Marcia, Marcia, Marcia, and the ever infamous "Pooper Scooper Barbie" (hi sadie!) ... we came expecting ONLY to lighten the load for Amy and Steve - and LOOK at ALL each of us got in return. WOW! To borrow a quote, "It's a GOD thing!" ... and I for one, LUB how HE works!

HI Mack
CSftAI'sS hit Borders this weekend
with a special signing by Ozzie Smith
(Cardinals baseball) and his son Nikko
who was on Am. Idol. And I reread your
chapter, and, of course, cried again. I
was telling two of my friends at my b-day
dinner about you and Ace. And one knew who
Ace is, and she said she was going to buy the book
for me.
I thought that was pretty exciting!

Sure was great to read your newest post. I'm praying for an uneventful trip to Cinci. And for Linds's heart, too.

Linda, I was just thinking, before checking Mackie's page, the very things you wrote. I miss the camaraderie of our postings/checking in on Mackie's page, but I am so very thankful that she is doing so incredibly well and we don't have the urgency of crisis keeping us all at this page so often anymore.

Hi Mackenzie
Happy Official USA National Tartan Day!
Yesterday the Preschoolers marched in the
Tartan Day Parade as the McZion Nessie Fan Clan.
You can see our photos on Ashlee Poland's caringbridge page.
Ashlee is from Oklahoma, and had a double lung transplant in
St. Louis last November. She went home just before Easter, but
was back here having her wisdom teeth pulled. And she and her
grandmother Mormor SURPRISED us by coming to the parade. I
can't tell you how thrilled I was to finally meet them. They are
both so beautiful and delightful.

It's been awhile since you've heard from us Peavey Lake relatives in MN. All had been going well and we have enjoyed this miracle called Mack! Unfortunately we got the news we were not hoping to hear after Rod's mom's PET scan was done today. She has advanced metastatic cancer in her abdomen, chest, bones, spine and looks like around her pancreas. Kind of came out of the blue so we are all surprised to hear the news. Lois decided to cancel her cruise to the Panama Canal. We now hold Lois up in prayer. Marilyn is at a bass tournament this weekend. Last weekend Rod's brother and sis and other family came up and we had a wonderful weekend together supporting Lois. She has chosen not do any treatment as would only prolong the inevitable. So we are on bended knee and come asking the Lord for his blessings. We celebrate the awesomeness of Him in healing Mack and ask Him to watch over Lois giving her strength in Him in the days to come. Just thought you, your family,(and Caringbridge friends)would want to know. Lois is strong in her faith and looks forward to meeting her Lord and Savior probably sooner than later.
In His love,

Judy Hayes

Happy Easter!
Found this prayer on another site and just had to share it!

Easter Prayer:

Glory and praise to You, Risen Savior,
for You bring light to our darkness, joy to our sorrow,
and the fullness of love to our reluctant hearts.
Once and for all You have conquered sin and evil.
In the glory of Your Resurrection we have been
set free from all that keeps us
from following You.
On this Easter Day,
fill our hearts with Your Light and Grace
that we might joyfully echo the words of
Your Holy Angels:
He is not here in the tomb:
He is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen
