GONE TOO SOON but SAFE IN HIS ARMS Welcome to Chassidy's webpage. This page was designed to inform friends and loved ones of Chassidy's progress throughout her battle with AML.
On October 6, 2002, I took Chassidy (who is 12 now at the time 11) to the local ER for a severe sorethroat and fever. She did have strepthroat, but when routine bloodwork was done her platelet count was only 16,000. We were told to come to St. Louis Childrens Hospital Oncology Clinic the next day which is 2 1/2 hours away for us. On October 7, 2002 she was diagnosed with AML. Chemotherapy began 3 days later. She obtained remission on the first round of chemo. In December 2002, she was finished with the chemotherapy, Ara-C, and January we were back to a "normal" life.
February 2003 we went back for a check up and learned the leukemia was back. We were devestated. She was put on another chemotherapy and went back into remission. She was also placed on the national bone marrow registry in search of a donor match.
April 10th, we found out she was no longer in remission. She was immediately placed on the third chemotherapy to try to get her back into remission so she could receive her bone marrow transplant. She did obtain remission once again.
In May we learned she had a good 5 out of 6 donor match. Chassidy is bi-racial (black & white), but her donor was a black male.
She spent 75 days straight in the hospital. She was admitted April 14th for chemotherapy. After her chemotherapy she was not well enough to go home. It was one complication after another. Then in May it was time for transplant. She received her transplant on May 21, 2003. She then spent another 5 1/2 weeks in isolation. FINALLY, June 29th she got out. The bone marrow aspiration on June 18th showed no sign of disease! God is Great!!
July 4th she went back into the hospital with graft vs. host from the transplant. It did get very complicated and she ended up in Pediatric Intensive Care. On July 27th, she earned her wings and flew away to be with Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Journal
Wednesday, July 21, 2004 10:55 PM CDT Sorry to keep everyone hanging for the last 2 months. I really didn't realize it has been that long since I have updated the page.
This summer has just flown by as I knew it would. I have went to Florida for a week's vacation and had a great time. I am now anticipating nursing school beginning the middle of August. I am ready to get this show on the road. I am ready to be what God is calling me to be and to carry on the ministry that was left to me by Chassidy.
In 6 more days it will be my Angel's one year anniversary that she has gone to be with Jesus. I absolutely cannot believe it has been a year already. I know that Chassidy will be celebrating her one year anniversary in Heaven. God is healing me more everyday on dealing with my loss. I am slowly letting go of the bitter feelings. Still alot of anger but its getting better. I know there is no sorrow that Heaven can't heal here on earth. I know that I will see her again one day. Not only is she in my past but she's in my future as well.
This will be my last journal entry. I am going to close the site down at the end of the month or as soon as I get time thereafter. I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for supporting me through what is a nightmare for any parent. Please feel free to always email me my address tmax1970@hotmail.com Take care and God Bless.
Love Always, Tonya
