Aidan a Miracle on 2 Feet

For most parents it is very exciting to see your child take their first steps, but for a parent who child was born at 26 weeks, it’s a miracle. When Aidan took his first steps at 18 months we were so over joyed. He did it. He walked on his own. We thought the worry is over; he is going to be fine. Ever since Aidan was born it was one big worry. Will he be able to hear, to see? Will he have seizures or cerebral palsy? After all, being born three months early, at just over 2 lbs the questions and worries were endless. He had to over come so many problems from being on a ventilator for weeks, hernia repair, a hole in his heart, a severe brain bleed. But now he walked. We sighed in relief. It looked as if he over came everything and was now going to be fine. His physical therapist said we only had 2 more weeks of therapy and she would be discharging him because we wouldn’t need her any more. Over the next couple of weeks he kept falling and walking funny. So, she stayed to work with him a little more. But we figured it just takes time. He'll get it. Well, he didn't. Just before his 2nd birthday he was diagnosised with cerebral palsy and placed in braces. It was beyond devastating. To hear that your child has suffered irreversible brain damaged and there is little anyone can do for him was like someone just swung a bat and hit you over the head. It's something we feared since the day he was born. Although, we have come to except that he has cerebral palsy we would not take it lying down. We are going to do everything possible so he can be the best he can be. We did a lot of research and found a doctor out of St. Louis who does spinal surgery on children like Aidan. He is schedule to have surgery to help him to walk and to try and prevent future problems (I.e. spinal and hip deformities, bone deformities). Aidan will need to learn how to walk again and will need intense physical therapy over the next year. Please keep Aidan and our family in your prayers.

Hello,

Jacob is doing well. He went to the docotr today. Everything looks good they are keeping him on reflux medicine and a monitor to make sure he don't stop breathing. They think that he had a virus or something that made him stop breathing. While he was in the hospital he had to have a blood transfision he was also on a ventulator. Thank God he is doing so much better, He came over to visit me today he looks so good and he's getting big he has chubby cheeks.

His brother Aidan is doing good. They are waiting for a new brace for his leg.

Well thats all for tonight thank you so much for all the prayers.

Love Aunt Tracy
