Welcome to Annabelle's website. This site was created to update family and friends on Annabelle. Annabelle has MPS-III type A (Sanfilippo Syndrome). MPS is a rare genetic lysosomal storage diseases caused by the body’s inability to produce specific enzymes that brake down sugars in the body. There is no cure, but stem-cell transplants are now being done to hopefully stop this horrible disease. Annabelle had her transplant on April 23rd, 2004 at Duke University. She breezed by without many complications, but now she is dealing with GVHD and other transplant related problems. Thank you for your support and prayers for our sweet princess....

Thursday, June 5, 2008 11:21 AM CDT Well.....Annabelle never had her MRI. Duke decided to not do it. They said it was not needed because they believed that she was stable, even though she has decreased in some areas. We have other thoughts on why they cancelled it, but who knows. They also said that they didn't want to introduce anymore drugs in her system (she would have to be sedated for the MRI), and we understand and appreciate that.
Yesterday Annabelle had her last appointment at Duke for this year (hopefully!) and they said that they don't have everything back yet, but they do believe she does still have some GVHD she is dealing with. They also believe she is allergic to many many things and it's a matter of finding what. They went on to say that her new cells and immune system is just trying to figure out what to do. As for her immune system, we don't have all the test back yet, but we do know that in two area's she is only at twenty percent so she still have to be very careful. They want to keep her immune suppressed for another year then start to wean her off the drugs and see what happens. They also reduced the amount of steroids she is on so hopefully her buddha belly will go down soon. Not that we don't love her buddha belly....she is just so bloated and looks so uncomfy sometimes and people always stare at her. Its one thing when kids do it, but when adults sit there and stare it just plain rude! I so badly want to find her a shirt that says "I am on steroids, what is your excuse???
After her visit at Duke I went with Annabelle and Christine to the mall and we rode the Merry-Go-Round and she ALSO got to ride the train in the mall. She at first loved both then realized what was going on and a look of terror came over her face. I hate to say it was cute, but it was! She laughed a lot yesterday and was one happy girl. When then went out to dinner and then just walked around. She had a pretty good day. They left Durham to go back to Bosie early this morning. Their plane landed back in Bosie just a bit ago. I will miss them a lot! Annabelle is such a ray of sunshine!
I will try and update Annabelle's journal more often as Christine's computer is always down for the count. I also have a ton of new pictures that I will try and post every few weeks. If I get good enough I will even post some video's we took. We got some cute ones! Thanks for visiting Annabelle's page for all these years. And thank you for your prayers.
