Samantha Ross

Welcome to Samantha's web page. It was made to keep friends and family updated.
Samantha is 6 years old. She was diagnosed 7/23/03 in Atlanta GA at the Children's Hospital with JMML. It took them months to find out what was wrong with Samantha because they'd never had a case of JMML. Since they didn't have the protocol to treat JMML we were sent to the Children's Hospital in Birmingham Alabama, 6 hours away.
She had her first BMT 12/23/03. Then she got PTLD caused by the transplant. Then she got GVHD caused by all the tcells to stop the PTLD. She's finally home after ten long months and doing great thanks to her wonderful doctor and answered prayers.
You can click on the camera to see some pictures. You can click on the yahoo link under the address for more pictures of Samantha.

Please sign the guest book. It really brightens our day.
YOU CAN ALSO GO TO LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AND CHECK OUT A LOT MORE PICTURES. THE LATEST ARE CALLED HOME.
You can also see the virtual quilt made for Samantha. The link is at the bottom of the page under "Links".
There are many children who are fighting JMML. Please pray for all of our children.

Journal

Next month will be another year. Samantha is seven years old and in the second grade. We had wondered if we'd see this day. If you were to meet her, you'd never know that she was sentenced to die. You'd never know that we were told several times that she wouldn't live through the night. You'd never know the sleepless nights we had watching her sleep and praying for a miracle. You'd never know that we cried, begged, pleaded for God to spare her. When she gets into the tub, I see the scares on her chest, stomach, throat, legs that show just a little of what she went through so many years ago. When I close my eyes, it feels like yesterday that I layed my hand on her chest praying that her heart keep beating. Now, I open my eyes and look into hers, so much like my own and see her smile and hear her sweet voice, "Mommy, can I have some popcorn when I get out of the tub and watch icarly?" Five minutes after she's out of the tub I hear her 14 year old brother hollering for her to leave him alone as she beats on his door to be let in. I hear the stomping of feet coming down the stairs as she runs to her daddy and in that sweet voice asks him, "Daddy, will you play with me?" and they spend the next hour playing hiding and go seek, doggie, kitty, cootie and what ever else her heart desires. Then her 17 year old brother comes through and leans down for a kiss that she is always happy to give and then it's bedtime, which she doesn't mind because she's been sleeping with her grandma for almost three years now. So no, looking at her you would never know what she's been through. You'd just think she was any other spoiled but sweet little girl. But I can still close my eyes and be transported back to the hospital seeing her fight for every breath. I am so very glad that she didn't give up, that we didn't give up, that Dr. Sande refused to give up and that most of all God let us keep her for a while longer. Thank you all for all of the years of wonderful prayers. May God bless you all.
