MARIA (HOPE)....Flying Free.........

February 4, 1970---March 24, 2006
Now resting in the arms of Jesus.
Inspiration to many and loved by all!

Welcome to my Web Page. It has been provided to keep people updated on my battles with Cancer and Fanconi Anemia-(FA). Fanconi Anemia is a rare genetic disease that can cause Aplastic Anemia, MDS, AML, Leukemia, and Bone Marrow Failure. Although this disease is known to be a childs disease there are some adults with Fanconi Anemia also. The Fanconi Anemia patients that live to be adults are more likely to develop head and neck, esophageal, gastrointestinal, vulva and anal cancers. There is no known CURE for this disease....YET. As of June 2005 I have been diagnosed with a malignant tumor deep in my chest. THE FIGHT GOES ON!

Current Blood Counts:(what it should be) as of 10/26/05:
WBC 5.0 (4.5-11.0) RBC 3.7 (4.2-5.5) HGB 10.5 (12.0-16) HCT 34.0 (37-47) PLT 244 (140-440)

Maria's brick at Camp Sunshine. Her sweet spirit will always meet us there.

Hello Everyone.

This is Maria's dad. This was my first fathers day that I didn't get a call from my little princess. She would call me on fathers day and my birthday every year even if she was mad at me. I want to thank all the visitors to this wonderful site for all their prayers and well wishes for Maria when she was still with us and even now that she is gone. I know how much it meant to her to have these messages to read. For those of you who may not know it, Maria wrote and had published a book entitled "Running Toward Tomorrow". It was only supposed to be a journal of her experiences from the trime she got sick but it turned out to be so much more. Sha always said she wanted it to be a source of strength and courage to anyone facing a crisis in their life. Well, I have dedicated myself to promote this book as a lasting legacy to our Maria so I had the publisher re-publish it so now it is available through several sources. The publishers web site is www.Author House.com. Also through Barnes and Noble as well as amazon.com. I have pledged that all proceeds from the sale of her book will go to the Fanconi's Anemia Research Fund. I have been told it is a very compelling book. I cannot bring myself to read it yet but I hope You will consider buying a copy and help keep Marias Legacy alive. Again, God Bless all of you and you will always be in my prayers. Michael Vetro
