Lydia's Web Page Welcome! This page was started in 2001 to provide medical updates for our then one-year-old daughter Lydia. At that time, Lydia was suffering from uncontrollable seizures.
Thankfully, now at nine years old, Lydia is stable, seizure-free and a big sister to Sophie (7), Amelia (6) and Caleb (3), and baby Josiah (1)!
Lydia and Amelia both have a chronic metabolic disorder, Pyridoxine Dependency. This rare genetic condition requires them to take daily megadoses of vitamin B6 to prevent seizures and maximize their development. Lydia is also low functioning, with extensive medical care, because of brain damage done in the years it took for her to receive a correct diagnosis and then treatment. Amelia's on the other end of the spectrum, with less-limiting challenges. She does require physical and occupational therapy for coordination, strength and endurance. (At 8 months of age, we learned that Caleb is healthy. At 2 wks, the same finding was made regarding Josiah!!!)
God has blessed us richly not only with our thriving children but also with precious supportive friends and family like you! Thank you for your interest in our journey. Please do sign the guestbook. Even after all these years we check it frequently and are always so encouraged by your notes.
"For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." Psalms 100:5
Journal
October 11, 2011 I moved writing locations May 2010 but am keeping this site up for the history captured here. The journals and the guestbook are our treasures, which we gladly share with you. Our written journey continued on another Caringbridge site, for the last two months with precious Lydia through the first hard yr. and 2 months without her. Finally the time came to shift to a blog, which is still active. Links for both can be found below.
