Kylie Dru Barry

Kylie's first day of Second Grade!
************************************************************************************
Welcome to Kylie's corner! The place to get the most recent update on Kylie's health. The purpose of this forum is to keep everyone as informed as possible so that the Barry's are able to spend less time on the phone and more time with Kylie.

Drew and Raquel are so appreciative and overwhelmed by the love and support everyone has shown. Please continue to pray!

Kylie had been ill on and off for months before she was diagnosed. She continued to spike high fevers for seemingly no reason and had been in and out of the doctor's office for months without many answers. Around the beginning of October 2004, Kylie was admitted to the hospital after another extended illness. Doctor's felt that this illness may have been caused by a condition called celiac disease.

The doctors performed an endoscopy to obtain a biopsy to test for celiac disease. During this procedure, Kylie's doctor found a large mass in her abdomen.

On October 7th, 2004 a tumor, about the size of a softball, was found in Kylie's abdomen and she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. The tumor was connected to Kylie's adrenal gland and wrapped around several major arteries. A biopsy of the tumor revealed that the cancer is N-MYC amplified. This means Kylie's cancer is considered "unfavorable" and aggressive.

Kylie has officially started the second grade! I still can't get over the fact that I have a second grader. She has a busy year ahead of her. She's beginning the TAG program (Talented and Gifted) and is in Advanced Math and Language Arts. Plus, she has gymnastics team practice for THREE HOURS, twice a week after school! Smart, athletic and adorable? She's going to be dangerous! Words cannot express how proud I am of her. She's just such a miracle in every single way.

Christian will start his first day of Pre-K this week in a new school. We went to meet his teacher this morning and he was so shy. He wouldn't talk to anyone and hid his tears as I had to go to a parent-only assembly. But, as I expected, he was leading the crowd by the time I came back 45 minutes later.

Nothing else much going on here. Work, school and after-school activities are keeping us all BUSY! Christian just started fall baseball so I'm on the go every day!

Thanks for checking in on Kylie. Please continue to thank God with us for His continued miracle with Kylie. We ask that you continue your prayers for Kylie's good health, the healing of all children with cancer and a cure for ALL cancers.

love,
Raquel
