Top 10 things – that made my Mom – my Mom!

1 – She told me she LOVED ME every day of my life. Every single day! And if it wasn’t where she could physically reach me to tell me – it was prayed over me all through the day.

2- Which carried over to her PRAYING for me every single day. Not only whispered prayers – but on her knees for long periods of time – with her Bible – in a quiet place. Telling God her hopes and dreams for me, asking Him to have His way in my life. Thanking God that she was my Mom.

3 – She always HAD TIME for me – she always took my calls, she always put me first, she always thought I hung the moon. She always had a high bar for me – because she had faith in me.

4 – She invented “THE EXTRA MILE” – and sometimes she would simply be exhausted from just doing things for me – behind the scenes that I may not even be aware of to this day. She was constantly thinking of ways to love me more. Whether it was hunting down the perfect gift, baking all my favorites for the holidays or cooking a meal and bringing it to me – because bless me – I’m single and don’t cook for myself. She just did. . . for me . . . without measure.

5 – She was the MASTER of holiday decorating – her home – WAS the holiday. And that bar is very, very high even to this day. I have a friend or two who can come close to decking their house out with as much flare – but my Mom was the master.

6 – She was the VIRGIN MARY – she just was as Godly as a person can be and still be human. She loved God with every ounce of her being. She leaned on God – pressed into him – crawled in His lap and just let Him be her Daddy more than anyone else I know. I was not able to give her the same comfort and for that I don’t think she faulted me. But she impressed on me – that God is truly our only shoulder in time of need.

7 – She WAS FUNNIER than most people realize. She laughed hard, and to the point of tears. You could get her going and she would belly laugh like the best of them. I loved her smile, her wit, her way of letting her hair down. She was very blonde sometimes – but was the first to admit it. She made my life fun.

8 – I love that she didn’t take ANY GUFF from anyone! She had my back 24/7 – and believe me when I say – don’t mess with her baby girl! My Mom would take a bullet for me – but even cooler – she’d put a bullet in someone just as quick – if I was in harm’s way! Don’t mess with Texas and Don’t mess with Kitty!

9 – She LOVED my Dad. She stayed committed to her marriage. They were about as opposite as a couple could be – but she worked every day of their marriage to make it work. She would be the first to tell a younger married couple – if you don’t work at it – it will truly fail. She prayed and prayed for my Dad. And she was in the trenches more times than not for him. Whether with his health, his job, his burdens, his hurts, his disappointment s – she was right there with him.

10 – She was MY mom. I was born out of her – she carried me for 9 months and then for the next 48 years. She never once stopped being my Mom. And I know that on 10/30/07 – she would have NEVER left me – if she knew there was a way to have stayed on the planet. She would have NEVER not told me goodbye, she would have NEVER not told me she loved me. But her body failed her – and I accept that. I have to remember that her body failed – NOT her heart. So I know that her prayers have not stopped, her love has not stopped and her being my Mom is still one of the things she’s most proud of.

When God mixed the magic of Kitty and Richard – and let me hit the planet on 8/20/59 – I was given the gift of my Mom and for that – God could strip me of everything this very day – and I would still claim to be the most blessed person on the planet.

I love you, Mom! More today than ever before!
