I found this poem on another web page, thought I would share it with you.

WHY US

Most women become a mother by accident, some by choice, a few by habit.
Did you ever wonder how mother of children with cancer are chosen?
Somehow, I visualize God hovering over the earth selecting his instruments for propagtion with great care and deliberation. As He observes, He instructs his angels to make notes in a giant ledger...
"Armstrong, Beth, son, patron saint Matthew"
"Forest,Marjorie, daugher, patron saint Cecilia"
"Rutledge, Carrie, twins, patron saint Gerard. He's used to profanity"
Finally, he passes a name to an angel and says, "Give her a child with cancer."
The angel is curious. "Why this one God? Shes's so happy."
"Exactly, similed God. "Could I give a child with cancer a mother who does not know laughter? That would be cruel."
"But does she have patience?" asks the angel.
"I don't want her to have too much patience or she will drown in a sea of self pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wears off, she will handle it."
"I watched her today," said God. "She has that feeling of self-independence that is so rare and necessary in a mother. You see, the child I'm going give to her has its own world. She has to make it live in her world and that's not going to be easy."
"But Lord, I don't think she even believes in you," said the angel.
"No matter. I can fix that. This one is perfect, she has just enough selfishness."
The angel gasps, "Selfishness? Is that a virtue?"
God nods. "If she can't seperate herself from the child occasionally, she'll never survive.
Yes, here is a woman I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't realize it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take anything her child does for granted. She will never consider a step ordinary."
"I will permit her to see clearly the things I see...ignorance, cruelty, prejudice...and allow her to rise above them."
"And what about her patron saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in mid-air.
God smiles and says "A mirror will suffice."

Vickie, I can think of no better journal entry to read than the note that you are closing the journal and moving on with a normal life for Jordan and your entire family!!! In fact, I admit to a bit of envy until the day we get to do the same thing with Kendrie's journal, ha!

Best wishes to you and yours for a lifetime of good health and happiness!

Dear Mrs Vickie, and Jordan,
I'm so glad this chapter in your life is closed, and your starting a new chapter. A new chapter of school, and kick ball, a chapter that has no limits! Our family was blessed to know each and everyone of you! We were blessed to live near you for a short time. I'm sad to see this web page come to a close, but I know you are just a email away. I'm thankful this chapter has ended! Jordan you will always hold a very special place in my heart!

Hi Jordan! At first I was sad to read that you guys would be bringing this website to a close. It's always nice to check in and see what's new. But, then I realized that I can talk to you guys anytime I want! The end of this site is so symbolic. It's the end of this chapter of your life,Jordan. Now, it's on to new and fabulous things for you and your family. You are an amazing kid, and you have taught me so much about tolerance, appreciation, and most of all the love of family. The sky is the limit for you kiddo, so put on your cape and fly! We love you very much!

Hello! I am so glad your family is doing so good! It's perfectly normal to worry about Jordan. With everything you have been though, I would worry with every scatch, bruise, or any thing!
I had a idea. before you close your web page, print off all the entry's, and keep them for Jordan's scape book. You may want to look back over them some time.
I hope your move goes smoothly, and I hope the kids are quick to make new friends! With Haily's blue eys's, and Kyle's sweet smile, Jordon always being a sweety, and Zack, being the handsome toddler he is, and of corse, Lucus being the cuddle baby he is, I'm sure they will have no problums! Hang in there! Just remember if you do go gray this summer, there is always hair color! lol! paula Legate

Hello Mrs Vickie,
thank you for keeping this sight for as long as you have had it. It has been awsome, to read how your family, and our little buddy has been doing! I'm so Happy God answers prayers! There are no words to decribe how Happy I am to know that Jordan is fine now! We were all pulling for him to get better. I know when, and if the Army moves you, Kimberly wants us to be naighbors again. My 6 year old daughter is still in love with you son Kyle! I thought with the time, that you have been away, that she would have forgotten about Kyle, and that just has not been the case. They are special friends! You will always have special friends here in Ga! Our family has really missed your family, and we have had your family in our prayers!
May God be with you,

I'm so happy to hear Jordan's counts came back good, and you can start seeing a family doctor. Hopefully that will make things easier for you (which will be a HUGE plus once that baby makes an appearance!)

I love the picture on the front of the site, but noticed the date --- just a few months before diagnosis. Sometimes I look at pictures taken shortly before Kendrie was diagnosed and feel a sense of loss, for the innocent family I see photographed, looking so carefree, who have no idea of the MACK TRUCK barrelling down the highway, fixing to plow them over!!!

Anyway, best wishes that the next few weeks go smoothly! (and I loved the "flipping the paper over" at the doctor's appointment story!)

Hi Jordan!! Hope you are feeling better today. Grandma can't stand it when any of you are feeling bad. Tell Mommy she did a great job on her "reflections". When reading them, I cried a little and laughed a little; but mostly I was just so proud of the way they handle everything, and took care of you and your sister and brothers.

Vickie - yes, unfortunately the worry is there, sometimes in the forefront sometimes in the background. Some days though you will not even think about it - you'd be surprised. I look at my son now and see how others would have no idea how far we have come and how bad it was in the beginning. I also can sympathize - having a hubby ex-Marine and brother in law who's currently in the Army.... too much red tape involved all around.... you dont need all that extra stress

I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Vickie, Jordan, and family! First of all, let me say that I LOVE long journal entries (probably because mine are always long, too!) and that I not only read every word, but can't wait for the Part 2. Also that I think your attitude "now you've told us what's wrong; tell us how to fix it" is very befitting a military family. At times I really believe our years in service have helped us stay strong as a family unit in the face of this crappy time ....

And I love that Jordan likes things to be done HIS way, or the highway. It takes a pretty scrappy little guy to do as well as he's done, and I say more power to him! (I just hope he's not too upset when he realizes the whole Mommy/Batgirl/Wife thing might not work out!!) :)

Continued best wishes!

I had originally planned to visit as many caringbridge sites as possible, and leave some encouraging words, prior to my daughters passing. Unfortunately her passing came sooner than we had expected, but longer than any of her doctors expected.

Another angel takes flight.

My daughter Pam had a brain tumor and was fighting the fight since November 4th, 2002, after the birth of her daughter (Casey Morgan). My youngest daughter, Karen, set up a caringbridge website for Pam. Karen's friends mother shared a prayer with us, that I would like to share with you and Jordan. It's called DON'T QUIT:
Don't Quit -
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but do not quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup. And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.(Just call on Jesus).

I would also like to share a saying that was on the card my wife Diane picked out, and we bought for Pam:

If you were a star
That wasn’t expected back
In the universe
For a thousand years,
I’d wait.

If you were the sky
And everyone went inside
When you got sad
And started to rain,
I’d stay.

And if you were a peach
And the world decided to get rid of all peaches,
I’d pick you up,
Put you in my pocket…

AND KEEP YOU.

Prayers have scientifically been proven to work.

REMEMBER NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT. You are in our prayers. GOD bless you all.

Mrs. Moyer, I just received the e.mail address to jordans homepage. I am so glad he is doing so well. I loved hearing all the news of the family also. I miss Kyle & Hailey . I need some more children like them in my class. You have raised some bright well adjusted children. With all that your family has been through it is just amazing how well everyone is flourishing. I know it is because of all the love and devotion you and Mr. Moyer have given to keeping the family in a normal routine as possible. I look forward to seeing and hearing more news from you. My prayers and thoughts go with you all. Please say hi to everyone for me. & tell them we miss them at little treasures. Ms.Peggy
