Chandler's Page

Welcome to Chandler Booth's Web Page. It has been provided to keep people updated about our child, Chandler. Chandler was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma on July 17, 2003. He was only 47 days past his first birthday! He has endured 5 rounds of very substantial chemo, a 6 hour tumor-removal surgery, stem cell harvest, two autologous stem cell transplants and 18 days of radiation. We are now off therapy, just doing scans every 3 months to look for improvement. He has a 12 year old sister, whom he adores. And a mom and daddy who love him desperately. He also has many, many friends who are praying for him.
Dx:neuroblastoma, 14 months
Current age:7 years

Dear Prayer Partners,

We are home tonight , thank goodness. It has been three long days in Atlanta of tests, scans, injections, collections, evaluations, and we even fit in a little fun!

First things first: Nuclear scan (MIBG) was again, "stable." Stable is cancer code for "good." We are so grateful for stable.

Second: Hearing test was not so good. In fact his hearing has deteriorated so much that he now needs hearing aids. I am so grateful that he had had his hearing up to this age (7) thus he has heard for this long. He is not deaf...not by a long shot. But in the higher frequencies, he has lost much of his ability to distinguish sounds. This is VERY, VERY common with kids who saw as much chemo as Chandler. Actually, what is UNcommon is that it has taken over 6 years to get this bad. Usually, they need the aids in the first 2 years after treatment. So I am glad for the longer time he could hear. I am also so stinking grateful that we live in a time when technology can help Chandler. We will soon be seeing Chandler's best friend's mom because she is a "hearing aid wearing" audiologist. She will do her best to find the best aid for Chandler.

Finally: Our friend Jack has relapsed. We were fortunate enough to see them and have dinner together Tuesday night. Chandler has not seen Jack in so long, but it was as if they had just been together...they were adorable. Please pray for them. His cb site is www.caringbridge.org/visit/campjack

In His hands,
Kim
mom to Chandler
