BRETT COCHRAN
BRETT AND MOMMY ENJOYING THE WAVES - SPRING VACATION 2007
Welcome to Brett's Web Page. We've put this page together to provide updates on Brett's condition. Brett was born 8 weeks premature on November 17, 1999, and was originally diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. After losing many of his physical skills, a years worth of testing was performed, and finally Brett's diagnosis became Mitochondrial disorder on April 15, 2003. To describe Brett’s situation in simple terms, imagine a major city with half its power plants shut down. At best, such conditions would produce a "brown out" with large sections of the city working far below optimum efficiency. Now imagine your body with one-half of its energy producing facilities shut down. The brain would be impaired, vision would be dim, muscles would twitch spastically or would be too weak to allow your body to walk or write, your heart would be weakened, and you would not be able to eat and digest your food. It is not determinable by technology as to how much of any individual’s “power plants” are shut down, and that is partly why this is still such a mystery disorder. Brett does not exhibit all the signs listed above, but does exhibit some of them. There are no cures for mitochondrial disorder, but through prayer anything is possible. Praise God for giving us such a special angel - we promise to take care of him as best we can! A sincere thanks to everyone who has supported us and loved our beautiful boy!
Love, Lisa and David Cochran
OUR RESPONSE TO "HOW CAN I HELP?" We have been asked by so many of you how you can help us cope with all of the many challenges that we face as a family. First and foremost, please continue to pray for us. Specifically, pray for Brett’s healing and for God to work through Brett’s doctors, therapists, teachers, and helpers to take good care of him. Also, when you call us or leave us a note on this website, you provide us with the encouragement we need to continue to face Brett’s challenges. A simple, “we’re thinking of you and praying for you” gives us such strength and stamina.
---Brett is a member of Eli's Angels--- Eli's Angels is a non-profit organization for children affected by Mitochondrial and Metabolic Disorders.
