Monday, June 16, 2008 10:49 AM CDT School is officially out for my kids for summer!! Well, my little boy has reached a big milestone.....kindergarten graduation! Joshua was so proud as he wore his cap and received his diploma. He had a wonderful year and a great teacher. He's learned so much and is reading well also. Looking forward to first grade.
This summer he is at daycare full time while I work. He seems pretty happy there and they keep him busy. On my lunch break I run to his daycare to do a tube feeding. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a daycare provider willing to even try to learn to do it. Some people just don't want the responsibility/liability.
Joshua had an endoscopy about 2 weeks ago, and unfortunately it was pretty close to how bad the first one was when he was first diagnosed. What does this mean for Josh? He will lose more foods :( We have to pull out wheat and soy products as well. He is also starting on Flovent (a steroid) again. Another surprise this month was his insurance through FL Medicaid program has cut him off now that he is 6. I am looking into other options at this time, but am getting real worried because once I run out of formula for him, I have no coverage and don't have the finances to buy it. I have applied for something called FL KidCare, and am waiting to hear if he will be accepted to that program. Praying for a miracle......Unfortunately I am getting no support/help from dad at all.
I continue to do every 3 hours/tube feeds around the clock, and am also trying out new recipes and diff. ways to prepare safe foods for him. I found a website online called Ians Natural Foods and there are a few things I just ordered to try for him. We currently have to stay away from dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, treenuts, peanuts, and shellfish. Josh is pretty good about not eating what he knows will make him sick. It is so hard still around holidays, birthday parties to watch him around food. He so wishes he could just eat like everyone else. He prays daily that Jesus will heal his belly so he can eat again. I believe one day it will happen.
God knows our hearts, and he hears our prayers. Josh continues to have faith and pray and it brings such tears to my eyes. He is a tough lil guy :)
Hoping to start another fundraiser for him soon. I would love to be able to earn the money to take him back to Dr. Putnam, a specialist he had been seeing in Cincinnatti, Ohio.
Joshua enjoyed playing T-Ball this year. The season just ended and we had a great party. We kept very busy having had practices 4 nights a week after work. He received a great big trophy that he is very proud of. He wishes to try football and karate, but I am concerned his stomach might get injured. I think we'll do swimming lessons at the local YMCA this summer and maybe baseball again next season. He has a new hobby now also....He loves guns. Believe it or not, he loves to go hunting, and enjoys shooting BB Guns at targets, etc...He went and played paintball (guns) over the weekend and loved it!! He is a real outdoor kinda kid who also enjoys fishing, and camping.
We have plans to go camping in August in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. We are all excited for this family trip. Mom has a week off work and can't wait!!
Big sister Alyssa just got her braces off and is thrilled. She looks great and has that Hollywood smile now!! She just finished up 8th grade and did really well this year. I'm proud of her keeping up good grades. My baby is going to highschool! Hard to believe it. This summer she is helping/a summer camp counselor at the local YMCA for kids. It keeps her busy..
Thats about all the latest for now.....Grandma/Grandpa have left for the summer and won't be back until October sometime. Aunt Amy (my sister) is pregnant again and due to have a 2nd child at Christmas time. Looking fwd to once again being an "aunt".
I'll be posting new pics soon. It's been awhile since I've posted pics. The kids are really growing up quickly. Feel free also to view pics on my Facebook. I have a page, just do a search of dawn drapeylo. I am on that site regularly. It's a great way to keep connected with people.
Hope to hear from ya'll soon ;) Have a great summer and stay cool :)
