Jared LaCombe

Welcome to Jared LaCombes' Web Page. It has been provided to keep our family and friends updated about Jared's progress. Jared was diagnosed with a rare form of child hood leukemia on February 3, 2004. (ALL with Philadelphia Chromosome). He underwent an unrelated chord blood transplant (stem cell), on May 5, 2004. Jared then suffered from a stroke, caused by an infection, on February 6, 2005. He spent over six month's in the hospital, two of those at a rehabilition hospital. Jared fought for over 6 months trying to regain strength and the ability to walk, however, one more twist in the road put Jared in the hospital in May 2006. The doctors didn't know what was wrong at Florida Hospital so they air lifted Jared to Duke, once again. A brain biopsy showed a large blood clot still present from the initial stroke in 2005. The blood clot was removed and Jared prevailed once again! Jared has been back home since October 2006 and continues to fight his fight. He has started walking with a walker but still unable to use his left arm and hand. We are so thankful to God and to the wonderful doctors who have proved theirselves to be a gift from God to Jared. Thank you Dr. Kurtzberg, Dr. Hajjar and Dr. Fuches. We are forever grateful!!

Hi Everyone,

This will be the most difficult entry for me to write. Jared went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Don and I were at the Duke PICU with him. Jared fought so hard but this past set-back was so much for him to overcome. Jared didn't loose, we did. We are finding peace in knowing that Jared is in heaven doing everything he wanted to do when he was here, and more.

Don and I feel so blessed to have had Jared for our son and we will miss him so much. We are not sure how to move forward but know we will find inspiration in the memories we shared with Jared and the incredible courage he showed during his illness. We are thankful for the close relationship we each had with Jared and know that Jared made us both better people.

Over the past 5 1/2 years our family has received so much support from the community, family and friends. We could not have had such a remarkable and memorable road through Jared's illness without this support. Don and I are forever grateful. We want to thank all of the doctor's and nurses who took such special care to help Jared at different times. We realize ordinary people could not have given as much as Jared has received. You all are angels.

We will be celebrating Jared's life with a service at our church and a reception afterwards. The information is below. Please know that Jared is in heaven and cannot be set-back anymore. WE LOVE YOU, JARED!!!!

God bless,
Lynn, Don and Jared
